I did get into a neat little accident a while back but this only started happening randomly. To be honest, family, my bike just randomly leaks oil, coolant, and gas, whenever it feels like and magically stops. Checking valve clearances is easy. The harder bit is changing the shims if it is a shim under bucket setup, as you need to remove the camshafts to get to the bucket and shims.

Taking the cams out isn't even a big deal as long as they have timing marks. I much preferred checking/adjusting the DOHC shim style valves than the SOHC screw+jam nut style valves in my thumpers. Mainly because the radiators made it super hard to get to the exhaust valves on the SOHC engine.
