It will be made in small quantities as a Japan-only car, just like the S660.

Competition is a good thing
>>
>>14111107
Japanese aren't Americans, Japanese deliver quality products out of conviction, not because of competition.
>>
>>14111105
But why? It isn't a kei car. If cheap enough it would probably sell fine here.

Why would you buy a miata when you could buy a Fiata?
>>
>>14111114
you couldn't be more of a weaboo if you tried. Their first attempts at cars were horrible. When they exported them they were largely ignored, until they started making cars that were more reliable. Jap cars had nothing going for them so they make reliability a key.
>>
>>14111114
pls dont i need one
>>
>>14111114
You really are a dumbass, aren't you?

Take a look at how lame and behind the competition Toyota's offering in North America are now since they figured the same senior citizens will keep buying them over and over without question

I sincerely hope it isn't significantly more expensive than the Miata, I want to tune that Abarth engine to 200bhp
>>
>>14111131
>why would you buy an N/A 2.0 liter with lots of remaining potential when you can buy an already force fed wheezing 1.4 liter
Yes, you can get some extra power out of the Fiat engine through a simple remap, but after that you'll hit a wall because there's only so much power you can get out of such little displacement before the longetivity absolutely plummets.
>>
>>14111111
>>
>>14111132
to be fair, the japs developed basically the entire modern philosophy of automotive manufacturing. kanban, andon, poke-yoke, lean manufacturing, etc. etc.

all jap concepts, and now everyone uses them

You can tune an ND Miata engine to 200 hp without modification.

200+ at the flywheel.

Here's an FR-S with a CAI and tune, for reference.
>>
>>14111206
>>14111227
Pretty neat. You know what it takes to pull that off? Or is it just an ECU tune?
>>
>>14111279
not him but it's just the tune. I believe that tune was done by 949 racing. I heard about this on a podcast. Basically they raise the rev limit and tweak a few other things but it's apparently totally reliable.

found some info

>How far into the engine are you planning to go with this first car? I have been curious if the stock red line is more to do with skyactiv engines being tuned for power in the midrange or if there are mechanical limits near 7000rpm. Mazda says the crankshaft is really light and the stroke is longer than most 2 liter engines.

>We have one apart now. Crank is fine, forged. Rods are teeny. Carrillo is making a custom set for us that will be lighter than OEM and stronger. OEM pistons. The motor is pretty much blueprinted straight from the factory. Motorcycle type tolerances everywhere. Worlds away from a BP. Micro polish the crank, port the oil pump, valve springs and a few other tweaks. Found some stuff in the ports we can fix. basic shape is good though. Mostly just making it tolerate 7500rpm.

>Depending on which type of dyno, stock is 140-142whp. The SAG 2.0L is highly responsive to ECU tuning andreallylikes the corn (e85). 100% stock with reflash on 91-93 octane is seeing 20whp bump so, ~160whp. I'm pretty sure we'll see 200whp with corn and built engine. Couple that with 1.4g on street tires. Yeah, might be fun to drive.

You need header, midpipe, exhaust, and tune to hit 170 wheel.

Yeah and I've got 152 Pokemon on my Blue Edition.
>>
>>14111304
Pretty sure this one was Good-Win Racing. Everyone is getting over 155 at the wheels, though.

>>14111279
Yeah, that's just a tune. No hardware changes.

Wut
>>
>>14111156
don't forget that most of the good modern jap cars were inspired at least initially by the desire to move into the North American market.

There would be no GTR if there was no north american Datsun 510.
The 70's turbo Z cars were intially North America only because japan wouldn't permit turbocharging on a "large displacement" 2.4 I6.
The celica was basically japan making a pony car.

And most of the american sports cars were based on a domestic application of European concepts.
Corvette was designed with the Jag coupes in mind, the Mustang was a rebodied falcon.

Neither were any good until they put a V8 in them and thats sort of where america really started to realize their own identity in sports cars.

Emilio from 949 racing is a pretty big name in the miata community. He knows what he's doing. Why exactly do you doubt these claims?

>>14111347
that sounds about right

>>14111369
He's talking about ethanol
>>
>>14111369
>He doesn't know that the god fuel is 105 octane (that's 115 for you yuros) and costs as the same per mile as regular
>>
>>14111363
>Remind me why I'm retarded?
because to get 200hp at the fly with only 160 + change at the wheels means you expect over 20% drivetrain losses.

I cannot believe that a band new 2015 RWD vehicle will lose that much power in transmissions losses. It'll be making closer to 185-190 at the fly.
>>
>>14111370
There were no turbo Z cars in the 70s. 81 was the first year of the turbo Z. It was originally only in America though.

Why do you say there would be no GTR if not for the 510?
>>
>>14111398
No you are retarded

just because its new doesn't mean friction doesn't exist

thats about right for a flywheel estimate
>>
>>14111398
Well, it makes more power at the wheels than a stock FR-S. Did Toyota lie?
>>
Can't wait to get a used S660 in a year.

Pull your head out your ass mate and stop believing made up shit from some punk with a shitty chassis dyno.
>>
>>14111424

m8, 949 racing has done it, good win racing has done it, and a few other tuning companies have made these numbers too with very small mods or none at all. I'm not sure why this is so hard for you to wrap your head around.
>>
>>14111131
Because a Miata will actually go down the road under its own power?
