I am stuck between these two, from a specs perspective the new Ducati wins hands down over the aprilia. However the Aprilia is not only $2000 cheaper but also has a slightly better track record in terms of reliability.

The only thing pulling me to the new Hypermotard is really nice looking on paper. It has 21 more horsepower and 15ish more torque than the dorsoduro. Although I am weary of it because it is a "new" engine and I am not sure of the reliability of it.

For the duc can you afford the maintenance? im sure the aprilia has a strict maintenance schedule too.

The ducati does have quite a bit of edge in the looks department on the ape. Dat single sided swingarm.
If that is the only maintenance it is no big deal, however I have read multiple reports of just different small things breaking/messing up.

Hey, hypermotard owner reporting in. I test rode a dorsoduro and bought the hyper.
I have the 1100S, so not the new "reliable" motor but I have had zero issues reliability wise. This is greatly helped by lack of electronics present on the new ones that (surprise) break a lot. You can work on it yourself, no need to be scared away by "omg dealer and service costs".
Yes parts are expensive. Same for any euro bike.
Get a hyper. Its the better bike and you know you want the one that makes your dick hard.

The new one is nice though, with all the electronics to save your ass. It's also got better brakes and handles sharper. It also has a very light wet clutch, which felt unbelievably nice compared to my heavy as fuck dry clutch.
The dorso is 200lbs heavier than it ought to be. There is a reason it is so cheap because it is heavy and underpowered for what it is. Buy the Hyper. Ducs are not unreliable.

Go with your heart/dick. Yes, once in a while you might get burned BUT it will be the bike that does it, and you will know. If you go with your head, you will never know what could have been. You'll never be fully content with what you have because you just don't know.
It's better to have bought your dreambike and had it turn out to be a pig than to buy the pig and hope you can deal. IF you get burned, the other will seem that much more attractive and you won't have regrets.
But you won't get burned. Ducatis are great bikes. I miss mine terribly.

I had a 10' 750 dorso
Great bike for the price, but it's lacking compared to what the ducati has to offer i think.
I advise you to get the factory version, standard brakes are chinese crap (my rear disc stuck and overheated on the highway while breaking and nearly killed me)
comfort is bad, but that's what you'd expect from an hyper.
reliability and service is kind of okay, engine seemed strong but i didn't keep it more than 6 months so i can't really tell
suspension is okay if you get the models with sachs components, but showa forks are crap.
overall bike is great, much better than previous aprilia bikes with an ok finish and great materials, i just had to replace every visible bolt, they're prone to rust cause they used bad inox in early models i think
i wanted to try out an hypermot, but finally this is not my cup of tea, be sure to try both of them or at least one hypermot before buying, cause they're ok bikes but too much of a compromise.
