Has anyone done a turbo-back exhaust on a car?
It's my understanding that it requires a tune, but i'm really not sure what a shop would do.
Do they put it on a dyno, or just drive it and tune?
Do you get a choice? Does it even matter, does one give more power?
And lastly, how much would it cost (roughly)?

YEAH FUCK OFF YA FUKKEN CUNTS STRAYA FOR STRAYANS
>>
>>13860132
Let me get this straight, youre putting a new exhaust from the turbo back right? you already have a turbo'd car?

No you dont need a tune to make more power for this kind of mod.

Choice: you do, its mostly in mufflers from the more restrictive (quieter) to less restrictive (louder)
in power gains, it entirely depends on your existing setup. if youre still running stock then you might see a small increase in hp maybe 15 TOPS but expect less, the main reason to change exhaust is later in the build when you are making more power and need larger diameter pipes to handle the increased exhaustflow.

Cost; cant say, not at work. Rough estimate would be $500 for some fancy stainless steel setup.

*Regarding bhp value, it really depends on engine bhp, stock exhaust size, mufflers. You could take a 600hp v8 with a 1.25 inch suzuki swift exhaust and be restricting the engine to 300 or so bhp.

I wish m8, but the harsh reality is that there are too many cocksucking do-gooders about today.
>>
>>13860151
REMEMBER FRANCE
>>
>>13860195
Obviously its a turbo car.
I've read that adding a turbo back (so from the dump pipe) can make the car run worse if you don't get it tuned, and that would make sense wouldnt it? It would be more sluggish.
I thought the car would have trouble adjusting to the increase in exhaust flow.
>>
>>13860298
>obviously
>4chan the home of some seriously brain damaged people

If you get an oversized exhaust then you will run into problems, this is on both turbo and non turbo cars and isnt something 'a tune' will fix

you want to size your exhaust and mufflers to suit your estimated flow (usually taken from target hp/kw output)

oversized and undersized exhausts are bad. you typically get a 1/4 inch oversized exhaust if you are running restrictive mufflers. i cant give you specifics but this is something you are better asked the exhaust shop you go to.
>>
>>13860298
If you fit a very free flowing exhaust where there was not one before, you will likely run into overboosting issues as the stock wastegate can't handle it.
Friend with a GC8 fit a drainpipe exhaust and found it was spiking to 17psi when it then hit fuel cut. Stock is 12psi or something.
Easily rectified by fitting a bleed valve, but it's something to be wary of
>>
>>13860350
It's for a GD, hawk eye. I'm new to modding and would prefer not being completely ripped off by an exhaust shop with the track works, as its my daily.

Alright, which one of you faggots did this?
>>
>>13860298
As BLDC said, if it's internal gated that can fuck with things.
Can also be a case of the ECU not liking a higher flowing cat and and/or missing O2 sensors.

>>13860329
You don't want any backpressure on a turbo car, that only changes things for the better on N/A.
Turbos are restrictive themselves and the exhaust gas velocity is irrelevant because of this.

Changing an exhaust is piss easy if you have any inclination to do it yourself

>>13860385
>internal gated that can fuck with things.
It'll fuck with things regardless of gate
Less backpressure means turbo goes spinny spinny faster than before
>>
>>13860402
External wastegates should stop it from boosting more even with no exhaust, assuming it's not setup for a very careful plumb back
>>
>>13860417
It will control it better, but if it's a stock external gate (yes they do exist) or a smaller one, you may still run into issues. Have seen it happen

So I bought an 03 Corolla sedan a couple weeks back, and I figure I should get some third-party property insurance and maybe some fire/theft insurance too.

At $233 a year ($177 a year without fire/theft insurance), it looks like AAMI's offering the best rate for me out of all the guys I've gotten quotes from so far (RACQ, Budget Direct, Suncorp), but are there other insurers I might have overlooked who might be better?

Who's the best insurer for something pre-1988 with the value of the car being a lot more than is implied by the year model?
>>
>>13860964
Probably Shannon's.
>>
>>13860964
NRMA did me surprisingly well on the 1982 VH Commo. Online you can also set the agreed value of the car. I still expect any minor damage done to it to be consider a write off but at least I'll get some cash back.

If it's a car of actual value, may be look at Shannon's.
>>
>>13860974
It wouldn't be more value than a very good VH Commodore by any significant value.

Trouble is I've been trying to do quotes online but cause the car was never sold locally when it came out none of the drop down lists get me the right vehicle. Picking the most similar car just gets me a maximum agreed value of like, $3000 or something ridiculous.

Did a quote online for youi and then they called me the next day (which was irritating), but I decided to see how much they'd do comprehensive for shits and gigs and they came back later on and said that they won't insure the car, not even down to me being 20 or anything.

>>13860969
Won't insure under 25's.
>>
>>13860987
Being 20 and getting insurance on anything is going to be a pain, especially if it's an import you're going to struggle. If online systems don't have the car on them you will just need to do the rounds calling every insurance company out there.

On the other hand I'm also 24 and own an SS, getting comprehensive cover for far less than I was expecting. Apparently since it's a domestic four door family boat they don't think much of it. I factored in all these costs before buying it just to make sure I wouldn't get dicked by a $2000/yr cost for comprehensive cover.
>>
>>13861009
>Being 20 and getting insurance on anything is going to be a pain, especially if it's an import you're going to struggle. If online systems don't have the car on them you will just need to do the rounds calling every insurance company out there.

Hmmm, I figured it would be a pain in the ass but not quite this difficult. Don't really want to have to pay more than $2500/year at the moment, so anything under that is a target.

Might give Shannons a try but I reckon I'll get laughed at when they figure out I'm 20.

wouldnt pass roadworthy, i did that on my car and i was told i needed to have it screwed or bolted on to pass roadworthy.
a new mirror will be 50-150 max and you can do it yourself.

4.2TD is a beast

>>13864252
Yes... as far as I know original belt, they're 2nd owners and the original owner NEVER replaced ANYTHING.

As for roadworthy, the basket needs an engineer's cert probably, the bull bar obscures the indicators too. A million defects
>>
>>13864273
Oh while mentioning the original owner, might as well give a bit more history. He was using it as a desert basher up in the NT. At one point he ran out of brake fluid and used engine oil watered down with kerosene. YEAH....

He also never once replaced anything as previously mentioned and I remember when it got its first (rare) service the air filter weighed about 5kg and had rocks embedded in it.

doesnt the timing belt get replaced later on diesels than petrol?
either way, when i got a used car with 100k, original timing belt meant to be replaced at 80k but not done I was salty af.

Ohh mann. whoever buys that car is fucked.
they'd be paying 3k+ ez imo to even be able to drive it legally without the engine exploding

>>
>>13864317
From what I can gather from Google, the RD28T is a converted small family car petrol engine from the 80's. Kind of similar to the engine in the VL Commodore, except fucking useless

>>13864332
Yes, diesel. Timing belt does tend to get replaced but not at 350K. I was talking to a Nissan mechanic/enthusiast a few weeks ago and he said its a miracle its still going and that it's basically worth more as scrap.

Another fun fact is that my parents had the choice of getting this car or a '97 Landcruiser 4.2 Diesel. They chose the Patrol because "our mechanic says he fixes 1 2.8 Patrol to every 10 Landcruisers". Unfortunately my parents are too retarded to understand that that is because the Landcruiser is popular and no one owns the fucking 2.8 Nii-san atrocity, they thought that it being brought in less meant it was more reliable. KEK
They also didn't want a Landcruiser because most of the locals own one too and they wanted to be different. Not joking

They tend to look down on all the locals (it's a rural area and they''re really out of place in it) and when everyone recommended the Landcruiser because, you know, they all owned one and never had issues, the rents thought that they were all buying them because "they're just being silly and all want to own the same car to be cool". :\

Here's another ft. the Subaru (Patrol's replacement, it's a fucking awesome car).
You can see the roof basket from hell, a bit.
>>
>>13864463
do they have a reason to why it has to be solid steel? to protect from hail or something stupid like that?
>>
At work thinking about baiku
>>
>>13864506
Because they're jews and didn't want to pay money so they made one from shitty steel and sheeting lying around. I've tried to explain how much weight and resistance it's adding to an already heavy and weak car. It weighs so much it has made the gutters sag and bend (which is also speeding up the roof rust nicely)

The bullbar HAS to be steel because apparently other bullbars crumple (they're supposed to do that, but try and explain that...) They think cars shouldn't have crumple zones and should be like how they were in the 50's (aka coffins on wheels, assuming a crash happens).

They've got the boomer disease so everything was "better in their day"/"they just don't make them like they used to", what you'd expect.
>>
>>13864506
Also ironic you should mention hail because yesterday it got peppered with hailstones the size of golfballs. Guess the basket helped a bit there.
My car isn't so lucky, it collected a few big dents :'(

rip commie
so does the rack get flooded or is there spots for it to flow off?
>>
>>13864601
There's no side walls so all the water runs off, still not a good design

Commie isn't that bad, I'm replacing a lot of panels anyway so no big deal.
>>
>>13864608
how's the commie's skids? gonna get either a commie, falcon, skyline or s13 for skids but can't decide
>>
>>13864639
The Commie loves skids. It demands them. I have the VR V6 3.8L Buick automatic, manifold bottleneck removed of course. Doesn't even need 1st, just putting it in D and a quick tap on the accelerator is all it needs to skid easily. Almost locking the steering to one side guarantees a perfect 360' skid. Best skid I've done yet was a sharp left at 75kmh, front wheels basically stayed in place while the rear skidded and hopped around the corner. Car loved it.

They're called skid pigs for a reason, Commodores are a pretty shit car but they're tons of fun.
>>
>>13864639
If you do get a skid pig, get either the VN or the VR V6. They're very cheap, impossible to kill, for some reason the Buick drivetrain just works wonders. I'd recommend the VR because it looks a lot nicer than the VN. VN is a very ugly car, could compete with the AU.

I have a mate with a vs and he does mad skids, doesn't get very sideways but never struggles to light 'em up

Went to look at an AE86 coupe today, guy wanted to swap for my car (2000 318i). Really exciting to see one in the flesh, especially one this nice. It was white and had been fully restored and repainted, the engine bay was immaculate with a rebuilt 4age sitting there with not a single leak. The guy drove my car around and liked it, needed something that his boss would like more than the 86, said it was perfect. Came back to the parking lot to discuss the trade, turned out he wanted 13,500 in total for the car (minus the 5200 mine was listed for), an 8k difference which he wanted me to pay. Depression, /o/. I'm broke as hell. Kill me. Had to let it go.

Well, there it is. I've had it with family, not a single bit of consideration for me, my mother goes out without telling me and leaves my sibling with me when I was going out shortly, 3 or 4 times a week. And to mention the constant mind games of family trying to guilt trip me to do something they want, and them just talking down to me, I've already done more with my life then they have and I only completed highschool this year and a cert 2 in something. Just going to move in with a friend that may have a room free in the next few days, moving out would probably help my mental health. Anyone else had such toxic cunts for family?

My aut/o/motive plans to get that 740 wagon I've been talking about has to be put off for a few months, hopefully my car won't kill itself in these next few months with my savings being rekt with moving out.

From people I've spoken to those Baumr's aren't a bad saw for a cheapy chinese thing.
Love to see pics of your neighbors saw, one of my dream combinations would be an old Stihl 090 for slabbing, but for now I have an 066 with a 20" bar which is a great bush saw.

Well, it pissed down rain all week so there is tons of mud, I can do dirty offroad skids if I can convince the rents to let me tear up the grass.

Internet is beyond shit today so if I make any webms I'll put them up tomorrow.

Love to see it. Something about those old triple digit cc pre chain-brake saws that are just out of this world. Absolute torque monsters.
