All Toyota engines are non-interference, regardless of type (at least as far as I know)
Almost all 4 and 5 valve engines are interference

Depends on the Toyota, all their diesels are interference, most of the little 1.5-1.8L's are, along with the variable valve series of 2J's and I 'think' most of their V8's are as well.

The better _value_ option would definitely be the LS1, you'll make about 3x as much power out of a stock standard engine for a similar cost.
The _easier_ option would be to get a 4A-G, AE71 crossmember, drop it in without having to modify too much and call it a day.
