a year ago, when being a bench racing bus rider browsing /o/ I would have said JDM, but now that I bought a Ford I'd have to say muscle.

I prefer the sound of V8's over turbocharged I4's. they sound like they're trying too hard, V8's sound more natural. plus it just feels good.

Why is this heavy piece of shit accepted by /o/, i'm all for the FRS but if you really want a V8 why the fuck would you consider the challenger over superior mustang/camaro
>>
>>13807630
This is the Challenger vs toyobaru
>>
>>13807661
The Challenger has a certain....character. Something about it just exudes cool. Between the two I'd rather pick the FR-S, but that may just be because I haven't experienced a light, handling-focused car yet.

>certain....character
being bigger and heavier yes, that's about it

>>13807661
Challenger for the cruze, of course "because race car" people will hate it.

The car is comfortable as fuck, has a ton of space inside and in the trunk. It also has a surprisingly small turn radius and a nice V8 sound. Maybe not as nice as the Coyote but better than the LS imo.

How do you think the US gets the money to outspend militaries 30 times over? The outsourcing is what keeps the money flowing here.

Look, I'm not going to be a dick about this. I know you haven't driven a Challenger at length, so let me explain from the perspective of someone who has daily driven an R/T for over three years.

The Challenger is not slow. It isn't as fast as its direct competitors, but 5.3 seconds to 60 is better than most cars in its price range. I average 21 mpg city driving every day, too. The car turns heads, which is always a plus, even when it's parked. No one stops to take pictures of a Camaro SS.

But the biggest thing? The car has a soul. It's an enormous, rowdy animal that wants to be driven hard. It is absolutely a driver's car, and it's desperate for someone to push it. Owning this car has been an endless love story and I have never once had even an iota of regret about buying it.

Of course, I think about weight reduction and pushing more power from the 5.7, but it is a fun car to drive in the meantime. I could keep it stock and still be ecstatic every time I go out to drive it.
>>
>>13807776

The simple answer is that crate 392s are expensive and used 5.7s aren't reliable. I say these things as a Mopar guy. LS and LT engines are a dime a dozen, so they are more common to swap. Some guys have swapped Hemis into old A Bodies and gotten insane power out of them, but that is serious cash down when an old 383 or 360 block is significantly cheaper with tons of modding potential.
>>
>>13807908

Nigger, there is nothing classy about a Camaro. It is white trash personified.

More importantly, keep your dumb shit opinions about 'Merica mobiles to yourself, because they're retarded. The Camaro uses parts from a communist nation while the Challenger is completely built by the free market of North America.

>>
>>13810013
Listen friend, don't bother testing shit like a mustang or a newer camaro. If you want to feel what having a v8 is all about, you need to try out a newer Corvette or an Audi or something along those lines. Of personally recommd the M5, one of my favorite cars I've ever driven, a G8 is even better than a mustang honestly.

Mustangs are pleb tier cars for pleb tier drivers who can't stack up against anything that's not a lower end Camaro.

Unless of course you dump alot money into a terminator or something, but in that case you're fucking retarded for not just saving a couple thousand by building up an Ls or a Mopar that'll go just as fast.
>>
>>13809621
This is fairly accurate. With the amount of solid 360s out there for dirt, it can be hard to justify a new crate Hemi. Lets say that a 5.7 complete is around 6000. For that money I can build an injected 360 and make way more power. Or I can start with something like a 440 and be hitting 600hp and equivalent torque for around the same money. As far as reliability, the new Hemis have the MDS which would have to be deleted as well as retrofitting in a new fuel system, a ton of wiring, etc.

Tl;dr 360 is cheaper and will make more power for similar money while being as or more reliable.

I fucking love Nissan, and hate all the American and Korean brands. They used to be my favorite company, but their stuff today is just bad. I liked the 370Z too, but it isn't really indicative of what Nissan is today. It was released in 2008 as a 2009 model, almost 8 years old. Once they made the GripZ concept, and more importantly called the Datsun Z rally car a crossover, I lost my shit with them. If Nissan makes a new Z that isn't a crossover and a new GTR that fixes the problems with the old one instead of amplify them (IE computer on wheels, pig fat, got too expensive) than I will take back everything I said about them. They will be cool again, but I doubt that will happen

Like I said, it's kind of a character/atmosphere thing, hard to define. If you've liked muscle cars, the Challenger fucking nails that attitude, but I can see why someone who doesn't like them wouldn't like it, because it is inferior to a lot of other fun-oriented cars objectively.

look, its cheap, its looking good and you never have the chance to really get something out of more than 200 hp on normal roads.
Nobody buys the Challenger for being the fastest one and the Hellcat version is more of a joke. Most buy it to cruise around with, so they will most likely buy the V6 version with 300 hp, which is still enough and can be pushed to almost 30 mpg.

I would like to mention, as neither a boomer not a poorfag, that the Challenger has incredible mod potential at all trim levels. There's twin turbo V6s that run eights and supercharged 5.7s that have broken 800hp.

You obviously have not drive a Challenger within the past decade or ever for that matter. Sure, they do not handle like a Mustang, but they have more space, no DI carbon to deal with, are easily modifiable, is more comfortable, and simply looks better than any of the latest ponys.

You are also trying to compare an Econo car to muscle which never works. If so, compare a Chevy Citation to a same year Camaro and you will see what I mean.

The FRS is NOT a sports car. It may share the layout, but it is not. Same way a Miata is not a sports car (Econo roadster). A sports car is akin to the NSX, RX7, Supra, Z cars, Cayman, etc. I see no one doing direct competitive comparisons between something like the FRS and a Cayman. The suspension settings are too soft and are a compromise on the FRS to appeal to a wider market. That is not to say it isn't fun or sporty, but it is not a sports car.
>>
>>13818490
I'd say it's an entry-level sports car like the Miata. Economy cars are focused entirely on fuel economy and being cheap, sports cars are focused on a fun driving experience, which the Miata and FR-S definitely are. They're just cheaper because they don't pack a ton of power, and the suspension is a bit looser to make them more fun to play with at those lower speeds.
>>
>>13818490
It's more of a sports car then the pony cars
>>
>>13818511
That's like saying a cavalier is more of a muscle car than the FRS because it is American. Never said pony cars were sports cars.
>>
>>13811014
>it has good backwards acceleration
>>
>>13807532
if you get an frs youre buying a fucking scion. a scion. im gunna say it once more, a scion. but a challenger is gunna make you look cooler to others
however both the mustang and hyundai genesis coupe are faster and the stang has more lateral G's than the frs. Honestly as annoying the stang is its fast.
>>
>>13818507
The suspensions are looser to make them easier to live with. The fact that they put a 'sports' car on eco tires and offer it with an Eco mode on Auto models is enough to kill it for me. If they wanted an entry level sports car, swap the tires at the factory and tune the suspension in. Then I will call it a sports car. Currently, the only entry level sports car that is cheap is the 370Z and its edging on a GT car since the 350Z.
>>
>>13807679
the challenger is not meant for performance. its made for shredding tires and making a scene.
>>
>>13818531
If you buy a Challenger you are buying a Dodge. A Dodge. A fucking Dodge
>>
>>13818539
The tires honestly make sense to me, low grip limit so the car is fun to chuck around, rollier suspension on the Miata to make it more communicative and fun at lower speeds, not to mention Toyota knows anyone tracking it or whatever is going to be buying their preferred performance tire. One of their specific design goals was to have a trunk that easily fit 4 wheels in it for track fun.
>>
>>13818568
And that has decades of heritage behind. Its well known and cemented in car culture. When I think scion i just think cheap asian plastic wannabes and the xB. But Dodge brings up thoughts of big, brutish, crude horsepower factories.

>>
>>13818597

>>
>>13818615
not that its always bad but cheap things are often made of plastic. the challenger just does it for me a little more than the scion. just the name scion sounds cheap to me

>>13818636
For what it's worth it's only called Scion because Toyota wants to preserve their appliance image.
>>
>>13818655
shouldve just called in a toyota
>>
>>13818663
Again, they want to preserve their boring appliance image. Anything that doesn't fit that mold gets called a Scion.
>>
>>13811183
I did drive one, and I do like old muscle. It was just meh all around. It may retain several of they stylistic cues from older vehicles in it's line, even more-so than the competition, but it still does it half assed and, subjectively, it didn't feel right.
Which is a shame because up until then I was waiting for them to come down in price so I could get myself one.
>>
>>13807532
That's like asking whether you should choose a Fiesta or a Ranger, a Cayenne or a Cayman. They both are good for different things, so you should test drive both and buy the one that suits your needs and your wallet. If you use it mostly to get to work and back, pick the one that's more comfortable and uses less fuel. If you don't care about your daily commute you should take the one that's more fun. All of this should be common sense though.

FR-S and Miata are most certainly sports cars. Sports cars are defined as cars that emphasize light weight and handling.

On the other hand, cars like the Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, and 370z are not sports cars. They're touring cars made for long trips at high sustained speeds.
>>
>>13822307
You are correct. Sports cars by definition are about being low slung, 2 doors, light weight, fun to drive and have sporty intent. That is the traditional definition of a sports car. Big power and fast in a line is second after those qualities. Though really, getting into the schematics of what is and isn't a sports car is stupid. When awd 4 door cars are the most successful in time attack and fwd economy based cars are making lap time comparable to super cars today, the definition just seems arbitrary. I'm not trying to demean the word sports car, because driving a traditional sports car is much different than the cars I mentioned, but saying that so and so car isn't a sports car doesn't make that car any worse.
