>What went wrong?
Pennsy and NYC were suffering from the rapid de-industrialization and rapid motorisation in the Northeast which didn't give the best chances to PC.

Still, they would have probably faired a lot better had the financial blunder that was NH not been part of the merger.

How is it that they can make cages so that you can only replace the oil every 10,000 miles, but stuff like chainrings and cassettes only last a few thousand miles each?

>chainrings and cassettes only last a few thousand miles each
That would be because you're not taking proper care of your bike.
It would also be because you're letting your chain wear/stretch too much before replacing it -- assuming you're replacing it at all. Wouldn't at all be surprised if you don't clean and lube your chain when you should either, or the rest of the drivetrain for that matter, which also accelerates wear.
A chain is cheap compared to...

Compare a bicycle chainring to a motorcycle sprocket. They are about 1mm compared to 4.5mm. More surface area where the chain contacts the drive, less force exerted thus slowing wear. You honestly can't figure this out yourself?

Assuming the drive-train and wheels are in good shape fixing the saddle and putting new cables on will get you close to what you paid for it. For more people a used trek for $125-150 beats $350+ for a new one. The brand...

Guess not.

This board is called "Transportation." Why do so many people talk about bike racing? Racing topics belong on /sp/ if you ask me.
>>
>>935454
Not op, but probably for the same reason why people talk about model railroads, or hobby flying in circles. You want to ban those threads too, I'd be fine with it. I would be fine with a pure transportation board. Let's get rid of hobby pilots shitting up the board with their talk about how to sound "cool" when talking to ATC, and posting pictures of their R-22 which is used to fly in circles for an hour before landing again. Or those gliders which can't even transport anything except for if...

Disc brake cleaner and a rag for rubbing is excellent to remove the little residues of glue if you can't pick it up by dabbing the sticker.

Also, other than wheel stickers, what kind of bike has stick-on branding and not painted?
>>

What is the F measurement called and what is the point of it?

Seems rather pointless, especially as it looks to be measured from the centre of the headtube so a longer headtube with a shorter fork would have a different measurement despite being functionally identical.
>>
>>935140
It's how the rear wheel tracks the front wheel, and why head tube angle is very important to your discipline.

For most things I drive my pickup truck. XDDDDD
Then again I'm not an underage child, or a NEET, or poor, so I can afford proper transportation.

Of course I have two road bikes, one of which is a Cervelo P2, and 'riding' is synonymous with 'training' or 'racing'. I spend more than enough time every week on one bike or another (10 to 15 hours a week). Such is the life of a semi-pro road racer.

Metro supplemented by trams and/or buses. Both of my schools are on top of metro stations so it's convenient. When I go home I take a train (and then someone picks me up) or a bus directly to my village.

When I'm at my village - my bike or brother's car.

So, APD in Scotland is going to be cut by 50% in 2018, that means 13£/short haul, and 76£/long haul fees per person will be cut by half. You're all experts so I'm curious as to how this will affect flights to/from Scotland.

So I presume when Ryanair sell a fare for 40£ in the past, in the UK, x£ was to cover fuel, y£ to cover airports, and 13£ of that was to cover APD. So now that Ryanair flying from Scotland will only pay 6.50£ on that fare, then that means that every seat they sell to a Scottish passenger is worth £6.50 more in profit to them than...

Why must the "metro" in LA be so shitty?

I am all aboard going on my long commute to work this way but the steel seats with nasty used up padding, the stifled disgusting air, it's borderline unsanitary conditions.

Last week they had 20 minute waits between lines, their reasoning was they're adding wi-fi ??? How about you get some new real trains...

I dont know maybe it's just the lighting and the disgusting seats...I'm so sick of feeling like it's late 80s every time I board one. The convenience is great though.

LA is pretty shitty when it comes public transit but I've never had any problems with sanitation on the LRT and subway lines.

Rough seats are used everywhere because padded seats tend to be vandalised and they are massive bacteria magnets (just look at the reports on the seats that used to...

so, whats the deal with chinese carbon frames? i am not speaking about labeled ripoffs, i am speaking about nonpainted frames from famous producers like deng fu. google shows up mixed opinions and alot of people seem to be really butthurt about them without having further experience

People are really butthurt over literally every brand on earth. Specialized is shit because they sued someone once. Trek is shit because they make hybrids. Bianchi is shit because transvestites ride them. Surly is shit because it's not expensive enough. Dengfu is shit because nikolasv doesn't like asians. Habanero is shit because it has a spic name. Moots is shit because he sold us to the japanese. Waterford is shit because nikolasv has a used one.

Bombing down a steep descent at >30mph on a frame that you can't be confident isn't going to shatter on you if you hit a bump and get you killed isn't enough of a 'con' for you? Or are you Bruce Willis in 'Unbreakable' and you can slam into the pavement at those speeds and magically not get injured?

They're SHIT. The 'companies' that produce them don't give a fuck if you get killed, they only care about getting your money. You may as well be playing Russian Roulette.

You're assuming that the cunts of /n/ who complain about these things are really posting to complain about these things. They're not. They complain because they like complaining. Wouldn't be surprised if they don't even own or ride bikes, they just want to whine and whinge and make piss-and-vinegar posts because in some fucked-up way it amuses them or makes them feel relevant or whatever it is that gets them off from doing it. Or they're just so far into the fringes of humanity that nothing even...
