Pennsy and NYC were suffering from the rapid de-industrialization and rapid motorisation in the Northeast which didn't give the best chances to PC.
Still, they would have probably faired a lot better had the financial blunder that was NH not been part of the merger.

How is it that they can make cages so that you can only replace the oil every 10,000 miles, but stuff like chainrings and cassettes only last a few thousand miles each?

That would be because you're not taking proper care of your bike.
It would also be because you're letting your chain wear/stretch too much before replacing it -- assuming you're replacing it at all. Wouldn't at all be surprised if you don't clean and lube your chain when you should either, or the rest of the drivetrain for that matter, which also accelerates wear.

Compare a bicycle chainring to a motorcycle sprocket. They are about 1mm compared to 4.5mm. More surface area where the chain contacts the drive, less force exerted thus slowing wear. You honestly can't figure this out yourself?

Disc brake cleaner and a rag for rubbing is excellent to remove the little residues of glue if you can't pick it up by dabbing the sticker.

Seems rather pointless, especially as it looks to be measured from the centre of the headtube so a longer headtube with a shorter fork would have a different measurement despite being functionally identical.

For most things I drive my pickup truck. XDDDDD
Then again I'm not an underage child, or a NEET, or poor, so I can afford proper transportation.
Of course I have two road bikes, one of which is a Cervelo P2, and 'riding' is synonymous with 'training' or 'racing'. I spend more than enough time every week on one bike or another (10 to 15 hours a week). Such is the life of a semi-pro road racer.

Metro supplemented by trams and/or buses. Both of my schools are on top of metro stations so it's convenient. When I go home I take a train (and then someone picks me up) or a bus directly to my village.

Why wood I?
My whole bike is wood (bamboo actually) including the gears and belt drive. The belt is made of bamboo fibers. The bottom bracket even has bamboo bearings and is lubricated with bamboo oil.

So, APD in Scotland is going to be cut by 50% in 2018, that means 13£/short haul, and 76£/long haul fees per person will be cut by half. You're all experts so I'm curious as to how this will affect flights to/from Scotland.
So I presume when Ryanair sell a fare for 40£ in the past, in the UK, x£ was to cover fuel, y£ to cover airports, and 13£ of that was to cover APD. Why must the "metro" in LA be so shitty?
I am all aboard going on my long commute to work this way but the steel seats with nasty used up padding, the stifled disgusting air, it's borderline unsanitary conditions.
Last week they had 20 minute waits between lines, their reasoning was they're adding wi-fi ??? How about you get some new real trains...
