Now this is something different. This is probably one of the few, if not only, transgendered fronted metal bands to ever exist. Though I'm not entirely sure if the front-person is transgendered completely or what, but the band is his/her/appropriate term project. If you didn't know any better, from the cover you might think this was an Ani Difranco like band (pardon some stereotyping there). However, musically it's your standard heavy thrash-based metal. While the guitars are heavily distorted, there is a raw quality about them, almost a sludgy sound to them. There's a progressive influence at least in the rhythms and tempos for songs will have one driving rhythm in one section, and then it would transition to groovy and sporadic-ish staccato bursts. What makes them a bit interesting and unique is the lyrical themes which focus on transgendered issues, sexism, education and other societal issues, which are things I haven't heard much in the metal world. Unfortunately it's hard to hear what the high-pitched and shouting-like vocalist is saying, which is most unfortunate for the whole point of the band seems to be the breaking of the norms, with the lyrics being a key part. Fortunately though, the band is really solid here though. Lots of headbanging parts to make any metalhead happy. At the same time, I would say it might be an acquired taste for some. Some will love it and think it is the best thing they've ever heard, while some will think it's awful. I would say that I'm about in the middle, but leaning 80% towards the fantastic side. In any case, check them out. Unfortunately they are no longer around, but this one album has definitely left a mark.
Also, one can't deny that the band name is fantastic and is an instant attention grabber.
