It's the October of June.

Listen to your library, show off your backlog, talk about new music, tell us what you have been listening to today and what you're going to listen to in the following month, gas the burgeoise, seize the means of production.

actually i think that applies mostly to memepop like Abba, for me
Emperor, Darkthrone, that stuff too
couldnt think of a lot more but there surely are, because like most pretentious teens i did tend to fault the musicians for my inability to connect with their sensibilities, or for made-up reasons like "selling out", or similar shit like that, so there must be

I'm done with my studies so I'm moving back to my family's home until I find a job. I have no idea where it will be, only that it certainly won't be in France. but in the meantime it's easier and less of a money pit to go back there.
Main downside is that I won't be able to play some bleeps and prog loudly anymore.
Which in the end might be a good thing since it will probably motivate me to move back and settle somewhere.

Done listening to Clockwork Llegion. It's pretty good. Some very direct Oï punk with a great take on Bethooven's 9th (because clockwork orange references)
Now I know the band went as Major Accident after this album, and it has been compiled and re-relesed under that name.
But Accident is still what's on the side and cover.

reposting from last thread for the finalists:

MIXTAPE TOURNEY FINALS

oh man, you guys. the rake is so close now. it's just begging to be won.

SDC made a really great mix. My favorite tracks were Trouble Every Day by Zappa, All Along the Watchtower by Hendrix (I adored this song when I was younger), and Nothing by The Fugs-- but SDC's strength is in making mashups. The closer is what makes this mix great- Laurie Anderson's O Superman spliced with Whitehouse's Cut Hands Has The Solution. Absolute genius.

Benji also made a really stellar mix for me, the theme of which was love. It opens on two gorgeous fado songs by Carlos Paredes and Amália Rodrigues. My favorite songs on the mix are those, Snowstorm by Galaxie 500, Open by Rhye (a song I knew prior), and Feel You by Julia Holter.

Benji's mix was underwhelming initially, whereas SDC's grabbed me immediately. As time has passed though, I find myself listening to Benji's mix, Sweet Kisses and Sour Sweats, much more than cunt's C.B.L. presents Sparagmos.

Benji advances in to the final round, against sshx.

sshx, I cant remember what theme you're doing. could you remind me?

Benji, your final mix must be under 1 hour and fit one of the following themes:
inclement weather
hype/party music
drone/noise/ambient mix

Casiopea play their tunes in an accoustic set.
the polar opposite of Recall.
Although it's interesting to hear Issei Noro on an accoustic guitar and Tetsuo Sakurai on a double bass, it's not as fun as recall was.
I have to say however, I'd play this when having an after-dinner drink outside on a warm sunny summer evening, and it would be perffect in that context.
the only situation that would be better to listen to this album would be hearing the band play it live on a small club on a beach as the sun sets and everyone (musicians included) sips on their fruity cocktails.
Sadly, it will never happen.

some more!

>Spain - The Blue Moods of Spain

I was kind of excited for this album. looked cool, moody, and interesting from the cover. however, it was pretty monotone. none of the tracks really stood out. doesn't really ever do anything except for one or two tracks. not bad, though.

>Sr. Chinarro - La primera ópera envasada al vacío

I need to listen to this a lot more. it seems like something I can really get into. the drums sound like something from a microphones album. extremely solid all the way around.

no I was just saying to listen to them.

Honeslty, you should probably try out Scientist, Wayne Jarrett, and really the other Upsetters output.

Fishmans have made very dub-influenced music in the past, but moved more into neo-psych and dream pop. This is the best of their "dubby" period imo and I like it but not all do.

>>65539109
Just hearing that for the 2nd time now. It's very damn good. If you like that Katamari soundtrack or anything similar you'll probably love it. I would say try out his previous album "Fantasma" first, though. It's getting reissued tomorrow.

Now that I'm posting I guess I'll do "reviews" for the past couple days. From best to worst:

>DJ Screw - Bigtyme Vol II: All Screwed Up
Reminds me waaay too much of LUM, which I've only liked a little bit of his output, but this was damn amazing. The slowed down voices and whatever shit is added to the production is fucking crazy. Satisfying as all hell and hip hob boyos should all give this a try, especially if you are into that 90s era.
9

>The Ornette Coleman Double Quartet (there's eight of them guys. That's math.) - Free Jazz
People talk about how chaotic and technical this is, but my favorite part by far is near the end when for a few minutes the drummers and bassists are showing off their chops, which is often pushed to the back in favor of the saxophone and trumpets. Excellent and it practically goes without saying.
9

>Cornelius - Point
Fricking great. Instead of a lot of sample work like on Fantasma, this dude uses a lot of nature recordings on top of his songs, which works pretty well. Reminds me of a mix of Stereolab and the Katamari Damacy Soundtrack, which is a damn good combo to have
8

>Duster - Contemporary Movement
Liked this, just wasn't as in love as I was with "Stratosphere". I feel like this wasn't as dynamic, moving, emotional, or even catchy as Stratosphere, which impacted me pretty strongly. If you're a slowboy tho, still don't pass on this.
6

>Moody Blues - Days of Future Passed
The OG prog album (unless you count Zappa, which you should) and it's alright. I blindly bought this on vinyl years ago, and I must say the B side is MUCH better than the A side, which is pretty empty feeling.
6

>Dälek - Asphalt for Eden
imo their weakest output I've heard yet. "Shattered" and "Masked Laughter" kinda slap, but the industrial element here is pretty lame, and the pseudo-political feel can get pretty tiring
4

Only have 10 left so it'll be done in a few days, but what should I do next?

>Weezer - Weezer (White Album)
Weezer needs to stop releasing s/t'd albums, it's getting obnoxious at this point. I didn't really expect to like this because i'm one of those plebs who will talk constantly about how good their first two albums are. To my surprise though this sounded like the old weezer i know and love. This album had hints of their trademark early album sound without completely copying it and the song writing wasn't hot garbage either. This is definitely gonna be a car album for the rest of the summer. green diamond/10

holy shit brian wilson is playing a free show at my state fair in august, like a week after i'm seeing melvins. that'll be a fun week.

also, should I see Against Me? they're playing near me soon for cheap, and i kinda like their first and most recent records.

but anyways

Les Blousons noirs - Integrale 1961-1962 (2007)
>rock & roll, garage rock, proto-punk

Really fucking amazing from a historical perspective, because they had the punk and garage rock ethos nailed down in /1961/, but from a musical standpoint it's just pretty fuckin' bad. It's fun to listen to, in almost a "so bad it's good" kind of way, but it's just so sloppy and amateur, kind of in an endearing way but mostly in an irritating way. Still really cool to listen to, so I couldn't give it a 0.5.

2.0-

Digable Planets - Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) (1993)
>jazz rap, east coast hip hop

This is so damn jazzy it just borders on jazz poetry at times, and it's really cool. The beats sound so damn natural which is really impressive considering all of the beats are sampled, but it sounds like they have a jazz band backing them. Of course all the MC's are great as well, and the lyrics are just wonderful ("La Femme Fétal" is amazing). I do have to say I really don't like when this album tries to be poppier, some of the tracks have hooks and they're /very/ hamfisted and seemingly just thrown in there in order to get the band more commercial appeal. But overall, this is pretty darn wonderful, definitely checking out Blowout Comb soon.

God in Three Persons put heavy emphasis on lyrics and I feel like I need to give it a second listen and pay more attention to them from the start. However, I haven't felt like listening to it again for a while, so I'm leaving its rating undecided until I feel like listening to it some other time. Really not sure how I feel about it.

Drinkin My Own Sperm is just kinda alright. I kinda forgot everything about it at this point, it's just not something I'm likely to ever return to, so I might just bump it down to a 2.0 sometime, really.

it actually fit really well though, and it was one of their few good songs

>Hainorourkzmann - Two City Blues 2
way too wanky for me this time around, but it's still a great album. You know how it goes, Brotzmann does his """""jazz""""" thing, haino does some wild singing as well as playing guitar along with Jim O'Rourke. It's like the first one but not as good.

I could see this trio being as good as the Hainorourchi one, they should keep doing this stuff, I'm sure a Two City Blues 3 would be very welcomed by fans.

Akira Jimbo and Tetsuo Sakurai are gone.
But I have to say, replacement bassist Yoshihiro Naruse does a great job at not only reproducing Sakurai's sound but expending on it and doing more than hitting his bass.
He has a goatee however.
His soloing and freakout on The Bass Greeting was pretty cool.
the drummer's seat is now occupied by Jimbo's original replacement, Masaaki Hiyama, recorded live for the first time and after a short departure on We Want More and Dramatic, and he does great on the March at the Metro, when given a chance to shine.
I'm not too sure what to think of it all.

hey we were chatting about this yesterday. I wonder if what I was trying to get at with the idea of two interplaying rhythms is basically just a fugue? About 2:40 into Tocatta and Fugue in D minor for example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho9rZjlsyYY

Although there's something to be said for it being purely rhythmic like in the Gamelan or in Crossing. Makes me want to try creating some of my own simple rhythms.

that may be what you've been looking for. i'm also thinking you might just want polyrhythmic music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haGWi5lTibI
thing is, as i'm understanding it, polyrhythmic is a somewhat broad term- the distinct rhythms can either cooperate well, as in that video, or be conflicting, as in this piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlJ_pjwBYxY
there's also tuplets (irrational rhythms) which wikipedia defines as (i'm learning all this right now btw, you piqued my curiosity so thanks anon) any rhythm that involves dividing the beat into a different number of equal subdivisions from that usually permitted by the time-signature. check out this zappa piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDQE82ElyJg

this is rad thanks. I've got a drum teacher friend who I'm trying to make a videogame with about distinguishing and playing various rhythms. The idea being that, it might be possible to teach this stuff in an intuitive way. There's a lot of games and puzzles that take mathematical concepts, and make them more accessible. But I don't fully understand the principles myself, so I'm trying to listen to and drum along to as many examples as I can, maybe ask him for some tuition.
But to simulate some rhythms, we've split a bar into either 16 beats, or 12 beats. So you can think of the 16 and the 12 track running alongside each other - and you can get some pretty neat rhythms emerging from that. Rhythms that seem to catch up and overtake, dance around each other and evolve. This is a pretty interesting video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zn7YtjO6Mqc
I guess the clashing rhythms is part of what makes DG unsettling to listen to.

>Baked Baby Jesus

I searched high and low for a link for this film, partially because a rym user I like to drone gave it a perfect score, partially because I was morbidly curious about what Mike Diana's film output would play out to be. After a while scanning the regular web, deep web, and trying to bum off a link from said rym user, I decided to fork over the dough to the madman himself for a signed copy.

It was bad, transcendentally bad. This film fucks up in ways directors like m night WISH they could fuck up. This film makes Korine look like fucking Kubrick. Hell, Korine has too much self-respect and dignity to even think about making a movie like this.

First off, let's talk about the best part of this film. The production. The film is shot on home-video tier VHS with absolutely no sense of cinematography whatsoever. I like it. The film grains nicely, and the colors of the film contrast with each other quite distinctively. Think of the visual representation of Twin Infinitives or Hairdryer Peace. Once in a while Mike would attempt an iconic shot, but most of the time said shot would be undercut with the absolute nonsensical context surrounding it. Speaking of which...

The film's message is anti-religious. Christianity to be more specific. If you are looking for a film that delivers this message in a clever or halfway subtle way, then please for the love of god don't look here. Just look at the title of this film. Think it has some sort of ulterior meaning to it? No. The protagonist (who I can assume is Mike) literally bakes baby Jesus (a plastic toy) then later proceed to eat out of it, crucify it with kitchen knives, etc.

This plays into the main problem I have with the writing of this film. Even though I found the subtext of stillborn, aborted, or otherwise deceased infants interesting, it was always put to the backburner with painfully straightforward and un-inventive scenes of Mike desecrating a bible, peeing on a cross, putting rubber penises on Virgin Mary statues, etc. It lacked focus, and it’s kitchen-sink mentality only detracted from my enjoyment of this film. The pacing was dreadfully slow, but I felt as if it worked in it’s favor. Many of the films more crude scenes served well as slow burners. Watching the same juvenile nonsense play out for +10 minutes gives off a strange effect. Perhaps it was Stockholm Syndrome. I’m not sure. In short, I never felt bored during all 122 minutes of this inhumane torture. That is something alot of professional filmmakers can’t manage to do.

The best scenes are basically all of the parts regarding dead babies (jesus christ being cooked, infant graveyard, abortion rally, etc), the out of place, but oddly effective scene where firefighters were putting out a small electrical fire on the awning of a house (part of it might have to do with it being the only scene shot at night), and the grim ending, which somehow manages to finish off the film with a serious tone without it feeling melodramatic or shoe-horned in.

The absolute worst scene was when a character (who I hope isn’t Mike) treats his dog like shit for a good 20 minutes. Said character spits on his dog’s muzzle, jerks it’s limbs involuntarily, and exposes it to sharp objects (when he is told to lick a baby doll crucified with steak knives). This was all shot with clear intent, and not part of the more mondo scenes. I’m all for artistic freedom, and I believe that Mike’s conviction on obscenity charges was bullshit, but I draw the line where animals are harmed.

Fuck it i’m not even gonna proofread this shit. I might burn my copy so I can rid my house of this vile evil. Please do not watch this film, you have better things to be doing with your hard-earned 2 hours of downtime. God has forsaken us and this film is the reason why. The music is nice.

I have a recommendation for you:
Mongo Santamaria- Sabroso!
it's cuban jazz and quite good. I was surprised to see the polyrhythm wiki littered with his name, so I was re-listening to some of it, and I think you may enjoy it.

>Smog - The Doctor Came at Dawn

seems like something that can grow on me. had some really nice ideas, wish they expanded on them some more. last track was really really good. can't believe this came out in '96. sounds like it is from the mid 2000's.

>Soulsavers - It's Not How Far You Fall, It's the Way You Land

I didn't know what to expect from the genre tags on RYM. all I got, though, was basically slowcore Massive Attack. and I don't find Massive Attack particularly amazing. however, I do like them more than this.

mac demarco- another one
cozy, relaxing, but almost dulling. style over substance- not to say the substance is weak, but just that the style overpowers. i'm not ever going to go out of my way to listen to it again, but I might be pleased to hear it incidentally at a party or something. almost got a green bar. I like the water sloshing sounds at the end a lot.
