Strats and Teles are the only guitar I like, I may get a Jazzmaster to round out the collection though, I'm kinda missing one of those, Trouble is they all have the skinny vintage frets and 7.25 inch radius on the fingerboard and I hate bending strings on that setup. The only US one with a flatter board and jumbo frets is a Custom Shop that costs stupid money. And it;s sunburst, it just isn't the guitar I'd want for that much cash.

HEY MOTHER FUCKER LONG TIME NO SEE

Dont even think about getting another guitar or bass until you get some proper amplification going on.

That said, It shouldn't be too hard to build a rack. I'd make it comfortably fit 5, and then an additional 1 at each end. But god damn, I couldn't imagine having 7 4 guitars and 3 basses.... I'd much rather a wider array of amps and cabinet combinations. Or have the $$$$ go towards effects pedals.

However it must be nice having guitars properly setup for particular tunings.

I've got an affinity telecaster I bought a couple weeks ago for 80 kangaroo dollars and Im thinking of changing the pickups for something bretty gud.

There's a guy near my place selling a set of '58 vintage telecaster pups for 100.

How's my plan on a scale of 1 to batshit retarded

Been trying to learn guitar from William Levitt's Modern Method for Guitar for about 6 months. How do I know if I am making good progress? I feel like I am moving at a glacial pace.
>>
>>63816809
Upgrading a cheap guitar is a waste of money. Save your cash and get a better guitat like a Classic Vibe Tele.

and protip: they're not vintage 58 pickups if they're $100
>>
>>63816796
I know that feel. I can shred 5 million notes per second, guitar is so boring since nothing is a challenge now

http://vocaroo.com/i/s0rn3wtEVJsG
>>
>>63816809
Depends. How's the neck and fretboard? ANy weird buzzes or irregularities? My Squier P bass is a damn fine machine worthy of swapping some $120 pickups into. My Squier Strat has a really twangy high E and B string. The G string bridge post rattles. The tuning posts rattle and don't keep tune (expected of)

A hard tail tele might be a different story. Does the thing stay in tune? Does it play GREAT throughout the fret range you use?

Just bought the s7420qm last week. Cleaned it up and tossed new strings on. Been tweaking and adjusting it. Need some new pickups. Probably avoid the d-sonic or crunchlab or whatever they renamed it. Thinking maybe a PAF or blaze set.

Switched to the dunlop heavy core .10 sets recently too. Find they work great on the ax7521, its actually a short scale. I was able to get the action really low despite the extra tension. The d'addario 10s felt bendy even with higher action.

Agile. I love my T7, they have some pretty good quality. Im tempted to buy an acoustic 7 string from them.

Ibanez has the RG8 for around $400 and you may find one locally you can play if you are lucky. I had one but sold it. Wasnt bad, but wasnt for me, like most Ibby, swap some pups and tweak the setup to your taste and they are good to go.

Though an Agile is more good to go with a setup anyway, pickups are usually the cephus and they arent as bad as a stock ibby, and they use emgs and blackouts alot.
>>
>>63817130
Tubes for bass are a bit unnecessary. A good tube drive pedal can get you that warmth if you need it.

I kinda like the 9.5" radius. Yes it stays in tune, no fret buzz and no problems with the neck. Haven't heard any bridge rattling so far. Had my friend set it up for me.

Bass is my main instrument and I just use the guitar when noodling around with chords and scales when watching stuff on my laptop.

Love my cheap ass tele. I don't need to use stands or cases, I just put them on the floor when finished playing no worries.

Pic related is my baby. I have to keep this lil nigga on a hard case filled with silica bags when not in use because weather here in Melbourne differs everyday.

What songs do you play, stepfam?
>>

but anyway, the case is actually the cheaper tweed one... musician's gear maybe? MF and GC don't seem to carry it anymore but i found my email for the order

that said, i think it's a spittin' image knockoff of the fender case

no, I can use the regular PU's for amp modeling, but all the COSM and synths require the hex PU...
>>
>>63817755
I wouldn't call it unnecessary, they add a color an warmth to the sound that you cant quite get with a solid state or good preamp pedal. The power section can add a lot to the sound. Not to day that I haven't played great solid state amps, but for me tube amps have a certain edge to them that can't quite be replicated by sheer imitations. Besides the first ever bass amps were all tube anyways, especially amps like the B15 and SVT by Ampeg, those amps are staples in the bass world.

>The G string bridge post rattles. The tuning posts rattle and don't keep tune (expected of)

1. Bridge, check the screws on the saddle. Makes sure they have a little lift and are evenly positioned.
2. Tuners, tighten the nut down. The nut on the top side, under the strings. Maybe tighen the tuning head if they have a bit of play when turning.

If that doesnt fix the tuners, it probably needs some teflon tape or snips of tootjpicks to give it a fill in grip.

how hard is it to paint a guitar so I can buy a good one instead of a pretty one

Plays pretty well but I pretty much had to replace all the hardware and electronics. It currently has SD Seth Lovers, Gotoh Delta locking tuners, a Gofoth bridge and new knobs. Also buffed the previously matte top and back.

It's a cheapo guitar (I think it sold for $400 back then, the new upgraded version is $500) but with the upgrades and setup it's excellent. Frets are a bit too small and short for my preference but that's all.

I was actually trying to sell it because I got the LP which is also a dual humbucker guitar with PAFs and I mostly play it, but since I couldn't find a buyer (it's hard as shit to sell guitar with upgrades without losing a ton of money) it's back on the wall again. It's probably my least played guitar but I still love how it looks.

Stripping the paint is the real bitch.

You can swirl a guitar with a bucket and paint, you can spray it with an airbrush, etc etc

I think a tongue oil finish, or colored stains look the nicest.

Painting isn't hard at all. Stripping the old paint off is.

That being said, why refinish a good guitar? Playing an ugly or out of place guitar gives you and your performance personality. I knew a guy who played a modded Hello Kitty strat because he liked the weight and feel - it's all about you own it.

Don't listen to the other guy saying you should buy a decent looking, decent playing guitar. People who would compromise a guitar's quality and sound for appearance probably have never needed a good guitar.

It's pretty easy desu. You DONT need to strip the finish unless you plan on staining the body or doing a transparent finish.

All you have to do is scuff the existing paint to a matte finish so you can use it as your primer coat. I've done a couple of guitars like this for friends and myself and I haven't had any issues.

Yo, so /gg/
for my guitar rack I'm kinda stuck on where I wanna go with the style
I have two designs sketched out and shit
one is a rustic looking thing with weathered and stained oak framing, and then leather wrapping for the neck rest and body rails, very barebones but kinda nice in it's own right
the other desigen is one that has panelled ends that go up higher and wider than the guitars will sit, thats upholstered with diamond stitched brown vinyl on the inside including a back plate and floor plate, and a rolldown cover with snap buttons on it for the edges and bottom lip.
obviously the second is a lot more work, but I think will look better down the line

I'm an amateur guitarist, I just fool around with a cheap used electric guitar + amp I bought some time ago.

There are some guitar songs I've listened to where its obvious to me that there are two separate guitar players performing the song. One guy plays a very distinct sound and then the other guy plays a different sounding guitar at his part. The guitars are set to two very different configurations (different amps/distortion pedals)

I've had this fantasy in my head while listening to the songs of getting so good that I learn to play BOTH of their parts back-to-back.

Is this what a twin-necked guitar is for? Hypothetically, if I did learn how to play their parts, is there a twin necked guitar I could buy that could be tuned and have equipment entirely independent to one another so that I could truly play the different sounding guitar parts using this one guitar?

I guarantee you that this is something I will achieve within my lifetime.

and in response to the question, I can't think of a 6/12 twin neck that has separate outputs. You coud easily wire a stereo jack on the guitar and use a Y-cable though.
>>
>>63822882
Are you fucking serious? You're asking if you can play two seperate guitar parts on two necks at the same time and you then say it's possible. You then completely misunderstand the point of a double necked guitar, which is painfully obvious.
>>
>>63822912

>>63822972
There's no reason to use a twin-neck for that. Just use a digital preamp or an A/B switch with two amplifiers.
>>
>>63822972
The double necked guitar only exists so you can go to a 6 string neck to a 12 string without changing guitar. Most people don't even use 12 strings anymore so I don't know why you'd want one. Just put on some different pedals if you want to sound different.

Playing two guitar parts at one time is literally impossible because you have two arms and not four. The only way you can get close is using ERGs, alternative tunings or a chapman stick and tapping two different parts at one time, which basically requires a lot of accuracy, and pinpoint muting and fretting technique.

Not usual for me to say that but it sounds underwhelming at full distortion, more like an OD+slight amp gain than a full on distortion. Which is not bad after all, but for $200 I'd rather get the MXR 5150.

Speaking of distortion, what are some more unusual distortions beside the HM-2 ? I feel like they pretty much all sound the same.

I run an EQ in front of it which gives it a big push. The pedal does need a bit of amp help to get the full effect, but so do a LOT of distortions.

Unusual distortions? The Distortron or Dirty Robot come to mind.

Many shredders who use 22 frets usually just play around the lower parts of the fretboard.. Not sure if that made sense.

I have a question about humbucker tone. I noticed that jazz basses with equally wound pickups have a more noticeable warmth and clarity loss when both pickups are on than balanced pickups. if you're not going to sell it then a really good cheap upgrade would be a better trem, the Wilkinson ones are incredible comfortable in use and ridiculously cheap

They've been straying off the metal path since their first release, their demo right after Focus is pure jazz fusion, and their whole gimmick is now five minutes of bland uninteresting robot vocals with some eventual riffs, saying they're a completely metal band is wrong.

Yes, turning down one pickup in a hum-cancelling pair does slightly increase the hum. I've got the Squier CV Jazz bass and it's barely noticeable.

same here. /mu/ is for music listeners more than artists unfortunately, just like /ck/ is for people who eat instead of people who cook. Goddamn people need to stick to the funposting boards for that shit. There needs to be a worksafe /b/ containment board for all these newfags. Call it the kiddie corner or something.

and better tuners, something like Sperzel locking tuners with the graduated string posts if you want to throw that much money at a cheap guitar

There already are numerous containment boards.

/s4s/
/wsg/
/b/

to name a few.

I think the influx of new people grew too much. A few years back if a newfag spouted bullshit he would be quickly reminded of his stupidity and told to 'lurk moar before posting'.

Sorry, I meant in a balanced (not equal resistance, balanced volume) bass. I'm wondering if lowering the bridge volume would INCREASE the hum cancelling effect. Honestly my question is more about the tone than the hum. I actually have noiseless pickups, but the tonal effect of hum cancelling still applies when both pickups are on. Does your bass have pickups with equal output, or a balanced set?

In all seriousness, I agree with you.
It's kinda funny and aggravating hearing my normie friends say that 4chan is part of the dark deep web and that it's dangerous and you must be careful browsing it.
It's now reddit-tier casual.

Just start with a kit, then do a nice job on the finish and replace the electronics (pickups are guaranteed to be shit and the plastic switch will fail on you eventually, so might as well throw both out and replace them along with some different pots if they're not rated to what your components work best with).

Pick related is my Carvin Bolt that I made from their kit. Switched out the pickups with some Lace Sensor Hot Golds, which sound most excellent. Plastic pickup switch inevitably failed on me, so I switched it with a CRL 5-way switch (7-sound mod) and 250k pots to replace the stock 125k ones.

I don't know if I'd go with Carvin for a kit again since they fucked up my tuners three times and the input jack cavity needed to be rerouted, but the wood itself was good quality. If I end up doing a bass next time, I'm gonna try out Warmoth, which I've heard very good things about.

honestly the entire reputation 4chan has is /b/'s. But the newfags don't know that so they come here for trolling and memes instead of going directly to /b/. 4chan as a whole was never about funposting, it was just a discussion board with funposting present. Now, people come here, even to /gg/, exclusively to make the next hot meme.

Apparently you just need to hang around the offset guitars at the guitar shop and they'll come to you...and then on you...or in you.

Anyone know if the Agile Gold Tops are any good? I'd want with humbuckers, though.

The gold tops aren't a specification for agile. Go by the model number. They make gold tops at various specs.

What are some good scales to learn for strumming along casually while listening to music? I'm looking for something that can be applied to even along with a 4-4 beat, just to help me keep focused at listening to music.
>>
>>63830068
Well, if you want to focus more on listening music you shouldn't be playing your guitar.

Do stretches until you can bend your legs so that your feet are at arms level, Then play like you normally would but use feet on the bottom guitar :^)
