Why are they so based and when the fuck is their new album coming out?
>>
Why does so much metal try so hard to be edgy? It's one thing to have opinions that some people find offensive (whether they be far right or far left) but there seems to be this tradition in metal of trying to out-edge everyone else.

Where's the line between metal and non-metal in Japanese noise rock?

Boris is metal. Is Melt-Banana? Midori? Zeni Geva?

I love Japanese noise rock and I want to know if I can talk about it here.

(I know it's kind of weird to talk about Japanese noise rock in particular like it's a different beast from western noise rock, but in many cases it almost is).
>>
>>60985837
Midori is like jazzy punk with screaming how can you even think that's metal
>>
>>60985837
>Melt-Banana
i would say so, they have a very grindcore approach to noise rock (and a ton of toher influences so you could call them a million things)

>Midori?

Nah, they're jazz punk
How could they even be metal?

>Zeni Geva?
never heard of it

>>60985851

>>60985859
Guess I was kind of reaching because I want a place to talk about my Japanese noise rock.

Anyway, Zeni Geva is good. The solo stuff of Agata from Melt-Banana is enjoyable. Boredoms. EX-Girl. Mariko Goto has done some solo stuff since Midori broke up. It's not half as cacophonous as Midori, but occasionally she gets a bit rowdy. I like it. Guitar Wolf.

If you capitalize it, it means you're a member of a National Socialist party. More generally when people use it in the modern context to refer to themselves, it means they have right-wing social ideas and authoritarian centrist economic ideas.

On a practical level, it means you take your black metal too seriously.

it's fine, but the singer isn't as good as James, the riffs aren't as good (outside of that cool one), the melodies aren't as memorable, and the writing isn't as interesting.

Am I retarded for realising after all those years, that even though I like Nocturnus and what Death became, Gorguts, Suffocation etc. but realistically it's the blunt stuff I will always come back to. Simple riffing, easy and preferably catchy melodies, I don't mind monotonous shit.

Applies to about any genre I listen to really, am I off?
>>
>>60986840
I'm not really feeling it. Hetfield ripoff singers also remind me of Matt Heafy a little too much.

Compared to Evile, most of the thrash I like either tears ass harder (e.g. Dark Angel) or is more prog-structured and melodic (Metallica, Megadeth). This is kind of middle-of-the-road and it's just not my thing.

Post non-black metal albums that aren't all that good from a musical standpoint, but that you still always come back to.

Coroner is fucking awesome and those two albums are their best releases. Their other stuff is worth a spin too though. RIP and Punishment For Decadent are less refined than those albums, but definitely still on the more technical side. No More Color is imo where they truly found their progressive thrash sound and the closest of their releases to Mental Vortex, though it's definitely thrashier and still in standard tuning.
Pretty much nothing else they did sounds like Grin, except for the new tunes on their self-titled compilation.

I know, senpai. I'm not arguing power metal is superior but I was just thinking about how in modern times, nearly every metal genre has or borrows from outside influences. The only modern metal genre I can think of that doesn't really draw from outside of metal is power metal, which practically makes it the trvest metal subgenre, even if it isn't the best.

ye I actually tolerated it as it slowly turned to shit for like 3-4 years maybe? Can't even remember. How goes the lifting otherwise? I've blown out both a shoulder and a knee since we last spoke I think

Too bad about Recluse haha. Were you in on /nbbmn/? I have a fucking insurmountable back log

if you had to dissolve it down like that, no metal subgenre would be "trve" because literally every subgenre takes influence from something other than metal
if you had to put it really, really, really bluntly, you could say that for example, heavy metal, is just "downtuned blues rock"
>>
this is so fucking good, goddamn it

i love the Pierres, i take that back about them deserving the attack
>>

I'm glad that you're recognising how vapid and inconsequential this whole line of reasoning is
>>
>>60991514
And there's plenty of power metal using punk beats. Heavy Metal is more true metal than Power Metal, because they primarily rely on rock beats

That's really shitty man. Hope you recover fast. I just switched up my bench technique. I can press like 50lbs more, but it's really taxing on my shoulders.

Do you want in on the sekrit tree house? The FB group isn't nearly as cancerous and some pretty good discussion actually goes on.

I tried my best for NBBMN. Not much varients, mostly just listened to immortal's discography and made it half way through dark throne's discography while checking out the odd youtube link that was posted in the thread from day to day.
My scrobbler doesn't really record album I listen to on youtube. I'm not sure if it's supposed to or not. I did download the extension on chrome.

That'd be awesome if it's cool with the others. Norsefat might remember the anon that sometimes posted as Nusselt, and I'm actually considering switching to Bodorio's gym if I ever get my joints unfucked. Can't say I'd contribute with much, but I do miss the actual discussions.

>I tried my best for NBBMN
Same here. I actually didn't listen much to pretty much any of the "classic" BM, mostly newer stuff actually. Reckon I'll actually start using scrobbler or whatever it is that gives those little charts for next year's /nbbmn/
