get a Rat (distortion), a TC Electronics Hall of Fame (bunch of reverb sounds), and an EHX Memory Boy Deluxe (or its $65 clone, the Behringer Time Machine) which has delay, vibrato, and chorus. I don't really fuck with wah, phase, tremolo, or flanger.

Get a fuckin 10 string man.

But seriously, any stores that stock 8 strings are more than likely just gonna have the shit-tier Ibanez models. I guess it'd be good if you wanted to try the neck but honestly it's not too big of a jump from a 7.

i got a new amp (Gibson GA42RVT) and it's warm as shit and sounds great but whenever I run my les paul through an OD pedal, strumming the low strings straight up sounds like fart noises. how can i alleviate this. It's just when I play anything on the 6th and 5th strings through an OD pedal at full gain.

Today we recorded a new demo, for the Mad Professor Amber Overdrive. Really enjoying this shit, as tiring as it is.

Do me a solid and check out the one we released yesterday and tell me what you think, will ya? It's for the awesome Chase Bliss Audio Warped Vinyl mkII that's now part of my pedalboard.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oAJucp7fUc
>>
>>60362777
Try lowering the gain, or fiddling with the amp knobs.
What's the OD pedal you're using ?
>>
>>60362777

raise the volume, lower the gain

fiddle with the eq
>>
>>60362887
>>60362925

See, that's the problem I like the sound that comes out of it but when I play anything that involves the low E string, the sound compresses and that's the only sound that comes.

I'm running an emerson em drive, volume around at around 7:30 o clock, gain at 3-4 oclock. My tele sounds fine, so I don't think it's the pedal, it's just that the les paul is too high output for the speak/amp and it gets compressed. I'm not sure whether I should replace the speaker tho or get a drive that does more of the work rather than just pushing the amp.
>>
To the anon that asked me in the last thread why I'm selling my surf strategy, for starters I just grew out of the looks of it. I own the seafoam green one and with the white pickguard its just too minty for me. Secondly I just don't like the sound of it.
>>
>>60362973
If you think it's from the output of your pickup, lower the volume knob on your guitar
>>
>>60363030
I have and it does help, but I still have the same problem where I can't drive the amp as much as I'd like without it compressing like that. The amp should be able to take it since it's kinda just a Gibson version of the blues deluxe, so I'm not sure what'll be better to fix it; a different kind of drive or a different speaker.

so what do you think of it? I finally got a new computer and have been considering getting an interface. Dont really have the first clue about it, I've always stayed in the analogue domain.
>>
>>60365023
Thats a Hexe Lunochod? i think is how its spelled. Its a custom 2 channel step sequencer that is actually an expression pedal for certain Hexe pedals. I use it with the two pedal on either side of it, a Hexe Bitcrusher III and Revolver II. Its pretty insane pedal for getting incredible textures etc.
>>
>>60365039
i've never had any problems with it
very portable and easy to use

so its something that would allow me to mic my amp and record to my computer....or is it more like a DI? i think i would rather be able to mic my amp.

It's both man, it's got a jack socket for a guitar lead and an XLR socket for mics so I don't see any problem with micing up your amp

yeah pretty interesting. any advice on the software end of things?
>>
>>60365261
if you think there's a chance you'll expand you may be better off with a 2i2 or 2i4 in the long run. and if you ever plan on recording in stereo you're definitely going to want at least a 2i2.

I needed the midi i/o as well as the dual inputs of the 2i4. it's nice just having everything setup and ready to go for both my bass and guitar.

>>
>>60365295
well i haven't had any compatibility issues with windows 8.1 and ableton 9 if that's what you mean

pretty sure it'd work with other stuff like garage band, do some research just incase though

it also comes with a pretty nice compressor vst and EQ vst too
>>
>>60365481
yeah i mean stuff like garage band. i dont even know whats available haha.
>>
>>60365481
wait, i can't just plug in and *bam* start recording...right?
>>
>>60365529
you'd need a program to take the input
even a simple barebones one like audacity would do the trick i think
>>
>>60365581
yeah that's what i'm interested in finding out about. i've never paid ANY attention to whats going on, but i've seen garage band mentioned before and assume its free? ill add audacity to the list of things to look into. the more i'm thinking about it right now the more i think I'm going to delve into making this happen.

>>
>>60365689
The blues junior is a great practice amp and a great pedal platform dude, don't let them mess with you. What tones do you like? I am pretty partial to old Oranges/matamp/hovercraft for that nice fuzzy power tube distortion. Not to mention hovercrafts are pretty inexpensive for a custom tube amp. You can get a 200 watt amp for 1300 dollars. For clean you can't go wrong with a twin or deluxe reverb.
>>
>>60365689
Nice foot
>>
>>60365372
>>60365261
to be honest I hate my 2i2. Latency issues fucking blow even with the correct drivers and you can't plug your guitar directly into the input without hellish clipping. If you google Scarlet 2i2 Direct Input clipping you'll see that tons of people have this issue and it's unsolvable.

I'd get anything besides a Scarlet.
>>
>>60365954
yeah i've though about getting a dwarfknot but the fact that they are just jet city amps with a couple caps changed here and there seems kinda....i dont know?

any tips? im completely in the dark. found a scarlete 2I2 for 134$ on reverb, seems like a fair price. i've got a pretty decent analogue recording set up at the house for making demos, would probably only use the digital interface for making higher sound quality than my iphone demos of pedals for friends. it's a cover of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-c66SJPuUI cause i wanted to practice my travis picking. it's still pretty rough around the edges (some rhythm errors and dead notes) but i'm sort of proud of it.

Whats the cheapest (new) Les Paul one should consider?
>>
>>60362234
Current gear - Ibanez RG3 EX1, strung with Ernie Ball regular slinkys, Ibanez GSR 200 bass, idr strings, Fender Strat, strung with Ernie Ball regular slinkys, Silvertone Smart II amp

Wanted gear - Ibanez RG9, Chickenpicks, Shure SM58 + 57

I've been playing for about 2-3 years. My favorite guitarists would have to be Mike Derks, Ben Bruce, Ben Savage, and Dawson Scholz.

Projects - I'm currently putting together a band that mixes 2 genres that normally wouldn't be mixed. I haven't chosen the genres yet, but I'm tossing around pop punk and deathcore.

Les Paul Express, cheapest I've seen is $109.

Bending the thumb like that is natural for some people, I have really stretchy hands so it doesn't bother me for stuff like that.
On the other hand I struggle to do barres because my index isn't straight if I push too much on the strings.
I've seen that video on his "swybrid picking" too, which is a mix of hybrid picking and sweeping, but I haven't found yet how to use it properly.
Surprisingly I just found out he uses some sort of tremolo picking sweeps in the solo of that song, which i already tried to do and is really hard.

Well, I'm trying a new approach right now, of writing down a paragraph or a few, and dividing it into a few pieces, and then making up riffs about the small aspects of the story I got from dividing. It's an interesting way to do it, and I'm not sure if it's gonna work out, but it's better than just randomly improving until you hit something.

Yeah, never had these issues with mine. You try switching the switch below the intputs? The "instr" and "line" ones?

One of the settings makes it so a guitar lined in clips no matter what. Never had any latency issues either. Had mine for like...2 years? No issues.

Last wensday I had my first gig where I had to bring my own amp. I've only ever had one amp and I learned it's hideously awful for using live: no line out and a hiss on moderately high volumes, which absolutely sucks if you have to be heard over 14 reed and brass instruments, a drummer and percussionist.
I play big band jazz and some metal and math rock in another band. Can you guys rec me a sub €300 bass setup I can gig with in both settings? I don't need to be very loud if have a line out, I think.
Pic is my current and only amp, a Peavey max 110 Mk1.

So this is the trendy thing now all the tools are doing. It's ok if you are one of them. I'm sure you've simply picked out the best gear for the money and selected the gear that had the tone you wanted, and not just because someone else uses one.
>Fender that isn't a strat (no humbuckers allowed)
>Listens to Shoegaze and/or Drone garbage
>Vox ACwhatever/Roland JC/Fender Twin/Some low wattage head on a 1x12
>Pedal boards with at least 9-10 pedals that are never used and cost triple of what the guitar and amp cost

Thanks to you guys I've been getting super cheap 4x12's and 100+ wattage heads. Keep it up. I'll also take a stab at seeing how shallow your personality is.

I saw something the other night and I can't figure out what it is.

I saw a guitar player using a strat with what appeared to be a 4th pickup. It was half the size of a regular single coil, placed between the bridge pup and the bridge, and the guitar had a second output Jack which I assume was for the mystery pickup.

I can only assume it's a piezo that he was running to an acoustic modeler he had on stage, or it was for a synth unit he was also using. I wasn't able to find him after he got off stage to ask. I'm sure I saw something like it in guitar world like 7 years ago or so, but I can't remember.

It's been bugging me. Any ideas.

Anyone got any experience with old guitars ('70-'80s)

Because I found some Jolana guitars, which are supposed to be some slav handwork, incredibly cheap, and I don't know if something like that would be worth it.
>>
>>60374912
probably a gk3

i've messed around with a guitar with one of those on it.

it's shitty, on certain sounds the notes cut out or don't register. the whole thing sounds like a cheap 80s electronic keyboard, unless you want to spend hours upon hours of tweaking all the settings.

not worth the trouble, it's just honestly easier to buy a goddamn synth keyboard and learning how to play keys instead.

I've got a question about fender stratocaster tremolo bridge.
Do you have to adjust it every time you change your tuning, for instance, if i tune to E standard, and then want to change to open D, do i have to readjust spring, saddles and height of bridge?
I'll be getting my first strat with tremolo bridge and don't really know what to expect, i want to have it set up floating, so i can move it up and down.
>>
>>60362582
>>60375160
Yeah dude, you're just as important in the band as they are, they have no right to demote your presence
>>
>>60375179
don't even bother changing tunings on a floating bridge

even if you were to drop just the low E string to D, it will change the tuning on all of the other strings, because the tension on the springs are different, which fucks everything up.

the only way around it is to just completely block off the tremolo
>>
>>60375124
>gk3
Not him but that sucks, a very good friend of mine just bought one of those and a gr-55... $800 burgerdollars gone to the drain...

He hasn't tried it yet, I won't mention a thing.
>>
>>60375257
Although non-locking tremolos are less of a bitch when you only drop low E to D, I do it often and it remains OK.
>>
>>60375265
i only fucked around with it for a couple hours, but to me i just can't be bothered messing around with the thousands of settings in it to make it sound half decent

honestly would probably just be easier to learn a bit about piano and buy a keyboard synth

i never understood the whole thing with people trying to make a guitar not sound like a guitar and coming up with these types of devices
>>
>>60375257

as long as your guitar stays in tune, it's fine for now.
my #1 priority would be a loud amp if I were you. playing with other people will make you so much better than getting a nicer guitar with an extra string.

but that's just my opinion & shit, do what makes you happy, anon.
>>
>>60381669
All you need is loud enough amp, save for that, join a band, then buy a 7 string. All i have is a shitty 4 string bass from china, probably made from old toilet paper and dead children corpses, and chinese 40w bass amp, that i got half free, which surprisingly sounds decent. everyone else in my band has top shelf gear, but that's only because every single one of them has a really good job. I'd recommend you to join a band as soon as you can and maybe borrow an amp from someone when you are going to a practice. Playing with another guitarist or bassist is completely different than playing with whole band.

It doesn't.
But yeah an amp still is my priority, I'm not even daring to look at guitars worth more than 500€ anyway

I had issues the first night I got mine but as soon as I switched to the ASIO driver it was perfect and there was no latency in my monitor

Do you guys know of any good ideas for cheap rehearsal space? Everything costs a fortune. Has anyone tried to rehearse in like a public storage facility? Rehearsal spaces cost as much as an apartment for full access.

I just want a place to play. There's too many distractions at home. I'm not going to need to play loud volumes, just an unplugged electric guitar, preferably someplace I could sing too. Any ideas? The lower cost, the better.
>>
>>60382314
Ask some local bands to share a room for a lil money, as long as you are a decent person, give a bit money and discuss times you want to play in, it should be okay.

Thanks
Believe it or not but mainly stuff like this:

Usually black metal, some death, more post-rock and a tiny bit of something bluesy and jazzy.
Lionheart is quite unusual amp for metal.

>Lionheart is quite unusual amp for metal.
But does it work ? I've been considering getting some not so high-gain oriented amps and relying on pedals to do the dirt.
>>
>>60382314
when i was a poor college fag it was either in somebody basement who lived off campus, or the cheapest we could fine would be a powered storage unit. once we started actually making money we were able to rent a proper space with other musicians making it a lot cheaper.

Thanks a lot, bro. It's a ridiculous pedal indeed. Wish I had kept it, but that one went to my bro (the player).

>spamming shitty videos
I make a video every few days and I post it here. I make them, at my own spare time with my friends.

But people are always complaining about the lack of music and too much gear talk. Even vocaroos are ignored. The second I try to create something with a little more effort put into you call me a spammer.

Go kindly fuck off, sir. This is a guitar general thread. Unlike most people here, I'm actually posting well produced original guitar related music and videos. If you dislike it, that's your problem. Not only that, I engage with the community, I discuss, talk about and have been contributing to /gg/ for the past years more than the vast majority of people here, regardless of how many haters I get (for reasons that I have no idea why, because I've always been nice and polite to everyone). I'm not some outsider who never came here before and is trying to get a few views for his Youtube channel by spamming and leaving. I've contributing and participating on a daily basis on /gg/ for the past three years.

So yeah, you're the cancer here. You don't wanna see and hear guitar talk and music? Leave the Guitar General.
>>
>>60381726
yeah thats exactly the sound i was thinking for it. Sadly I don't have a reverb or a mic so i'll struggle with that, lol

Depends on who you ask. I love it for metal with a pedal or two but my friend thinks the bottom end is too loose, mid-range too pronounced, highs too sparkly and so forth. In other words, you probably won't get any of the "classic" metal sounds out of this even with pedals but instead something wooly and strange. The voicing is something between a Vox AC and a vintage Marshall. Cleans are why I bought this, because they are usually horrible in high gain amps. The drive channel is more fuzz than overdrive or distortion. With a distortion pedal, a fuzz pedal and a bit of fiddling, you can combat those non-metal characteristics. I usually use Clean channel and just eq the amp's Bass very low, Tone very high and put on both pedals with the settings you see in the picture. Sound is very vintage feeling but aggressive enough for more extreme metal.

I think you should look for some Fender first. I know a lot of people use those with dirt pedals and get great results at least for post-rock, shoegaze and other hipster genres. Lionheart is versatile but I have a feeling you (or I for that matter) belong to the target demography.

I use a Roland cube 120 and it's fine for big band and jazz combo gigs.

My bass has a realist pickup and I just run it through a tuner pedal for tuning and muting the amp and use a footswitch for the onboard compressor.

>tfw only 18

I've become /gg/'s worse enemy. Ah well I have a lot of fun playing BB King licks and Hillsong. Rate my ideal pedal board. Just need the micro amp, volume pedal, and the tuner.
>>
>>60383181
pretty generic, typical for a poor fag who doesn't know anything about pedals that are available outside of gc. confident a blues lawyer would actually have quality pedals.
>>
>>60383298
Fair enough. It'll get the job done. Maybe when I'm an adult I'll have enough for that $10k Les Paul and $6k pedalboard. I'm on my way to true blues lawyerhood.

Anyway, he'll be banned if he starts spamming more than a video or two, as always.

I'm actually fine with posting one or two at a time and actually discussing them. That's what /gg/ should be about. He's just full autistic and has to dump everything he has.

>>60383790
Yeah. I actually like his demos, lots of neat pedals I'll never be able to afford.

Why have a CE-2 and the MXR? They sound pretty similar unless you're running one with the rate super high and the other like a typical chorus sound. Otherwise it's a decent setup. A bit too many effects for me but not bad (I just like delays, fuzzes, and distortions on guitar).

Also pic of my basses, get a pic of my amp tomorrow (90s SVT with Heritage 810 which sounds amazing)

Community centre? (I used to jam with some guys who would book a room.)

Library? (We have at least one in the city with piano equipped practice rooms.)

Rooms at college or uni? (A lot of schools are dead at night so no problem through your college or book something through Fine Arts.)

Public greenspace, if the weather is good? (Some parks are so big. Just pick a spot.)
>>
>>60380524
Debatable.
>>
>>60382892
Nor him but I just watched your video. Seems to me that you're just promoting your channel. If I'm interested in a pedal I'll go look for it. If I want to share it with /gg/, I'll put up a clyp. Then it won't be about me, my views and building a following. Your righteous indignation rings false.

>Off to the new thread.
>>
>>60378780
The MXR chorus is damn near identical to the CE2. It might not be exact but it matches up to the Taiwanese versions perfectly. And the MIJ-MIT differences are negligible at best. The CE2 was always out of my price range til I found this one. Guy wanted $45 and instill got him to $35. Japan/black label/MN3007 et al.

A lot of people are feeling that indignation, we've done research.
