I actually tried reading the entire Divine Comedy and got a bit into the part about purgatory, some translators did a magnificent job translating it to swedish while still maintaining the meter (I think that's the word). Obviously the ryhming was gone, but the text still flowed along quite nicely. The biggest problem for me was I have pretty much zero knowledge of the times, and there's so quite a few references to Alighieri's contemporaries and other "generally known" stuff at that time. There was a nice reference at the end of the book, but turning back and forth all the time got old fast.

are you sure it isn't just bands combining black metal with other already well established genres? i.e. `blackgaze' with rock and post-punk riffs, `psychedelic black metal', `warmetal' which is just crustier punky shit. it seems like a lot of the shit that gets called innovative isn't actually new, it's just tacking on shit thats already been done and cramming together and calling it new. look at shit like deafheaven, hipsters taking black metal and cramming rock riffs into it until it's palatable to the lowest common denominator. obviously that band gets shit on in these threads for good reason, but i don't see the difference between that and any other '[insert distinguishing phrase] black metal' band.
