Rock was already dead in the mid 80s. Discuss.
Nah, Rock died with the proliferation of the internet and musicians didn't have much of an incentive to record and release music when they found out they couldn't compete the ultimate market rival, that which is piracy.
And touring is a pain in the ass and fucking expensive, so rock died in the late 00s imho.
NOPE
Here's an album from the mid 80s that's more rock than KISS ever were
>>65461790
no, it isn't. rock is not dead, but it's not mainstream anymore, what the media and the mainstream press and audience call "rock" most of the times it's not.

Listened to this for the first time earlier today.
It's pleasant enough, but I found it spectacularly bland. Gotta say I'm dissapointed, I was really expecting to like it a lot more than I did.
Is it the kind of album that tends to grow on you?
I'll definitely give it another couple of listens at some point, but I'd love some thoughts from fans.
Echo, Bravo is the clear stand-out track for me, by the way.
>>65461736
shouldnt pick apart tracks like that
the songs should blur into one another
the album is def. a grower
maybe youre just not one for slowcore after all, do you like any other bands in the genre?
try listening to love, claire

It grew on me. I don't love this album, but the more I listen to it the more I appreciate it.
It isn't necessarily a bad sign if you don't like an album on the first listen. I was totally indifferent to an album that later became a favourite album and even a favourite band. So give it time, and if it doesn't grow then abort it.
what does /mu/ think of these guys?
Their early deathrock/garage punk stuff is a lot of fun, even if it does feel like a pale shadow of bands like The Birthday Party.
Haven't really dug into their dream pop stuff - their first album in that style had some nice tracks, but nothing that grabbed my attention enough to want to explore more.
they have nice dick lumps

The only band I've ever seen live in 2010. Primary Colors was actually good, especially by modern UK standards
They're hella tight!

Reminder to participate in the weekly /BLINDFOLD TEST/ threads if you like listening to and/or discussing jazz. It's a fun way to discover new jazz and discuss it with other jazz fans.
We all listen to the playlist of mystery tracks, write down our thoughts, criticisms, evaluations, and or guesses about the music and artists, then post them in Friday's thread.
This week's theme is a mystery. The theme will be revealed at the same time as the track info, though you're welcome to guess the theme.

If you want it done you should just organize it yourself. There are probably other people who would like to see it happen too but everybody is just hoping someone else will do it.
Might have to decide between seeing Dinosaur Jr or Brian Wilson in a few months. If you could only see one, who would you choose?
Go see Dinosaur Jr in my opinion. Seeing Brian might give you more cred but it's probably gonna be a shitshow.
Although I like Dinosaur much more, I would see Brian because he doesn't have much longer sadly.
Dinosaur Jr.

I kind of like that he's sometimes known as just "Brian". It's like he's the town retard and everybody is just being nice to him
I'll be sad when he dies though
When listening to music, how exclusive is your attention? Do you try your hardest to do absolutely nothing else, or are you ok with mild internet surfing or other mundane activities? I'd like to hear perspectives on multitasking while engaging with music.
>>65460682
Most of the time for the first listen of something I'll do it with some kind of other activity. Internet surfing is good because if the music is interesting I can always just stop what I'm doing and focus on the music. From this first distracted listen I can determine whether I think the music is worth listening to again and focusing just on the music.
Listening while driving is also good. I'd say driving only takes up maybe 10-20% of your attention span, just enough that you can focus pretty...

My method of choice is to listen to new albums while I'm driving, but now that my AUX plug is fried I have to rely on my second favorite which is hiking.

Coldplay - Clocks
After years of dirt cheap, sub-par headphones, I finally decided to upgrade. The sound quality is great, and I can finally hear bass in songs that don't have a bass solo or have bass high up in the mix.
Music for this feel?

Nothing too fancy, but they're good for my budget
Literally any music
But I'd say any jazz that you already enjoy or jam bands (if you're into that) because you can clearly hear interplay between all the members and that calls for practically infinite relistening value.

Another One. He actually shows development while retaining a very similar songwriting style. The electric piano is a really nice addition.
