Clyp thread ! Post what you're working on!
https://clyp.it/axyb0s2e
Let me know what you guys think of this new dark ambient/noise material I have been compiling, never listened to much noise at all but I really like the idea of total freedom that the genre breeds.
This is my attempt at a fringe-like crescendo track with a focus on atmosphere and all that jazz. Been trying to expand my horizons and work some drone into my usually repertoire of post-punky tunes.

>>65912782
As far as your stuff OP, I actually really dig how it's this bit of ultra-resonance while the distortion kind of works its way in. The samples work together well with it, I get kind of an eerie abandoned subway vibe almost, or some similarly populated place. I dig it! A fair bit at that!
>>65913287
holy shit how did I make that many typos in that post. Supposed to say drone -like not fringe-like

Wew lad, pretty interesting ngl.
Ok, I got the groundwork for the ambient flowchart, but I'd like some help completing it. Post an ambient album, and say which album on the chart it should be connected to and how. Provide youtube links if you can. Reply to albums to nominate them if you think it should be on the chart.
Example:
>Marsen Jules - Yara
Connect from Endless Summer with the prompt, "more uses of plucked instruments".
Be as obscure as you want, I would like the chart to be as extensive as possible.
Do you guys prefer to listen to ambient through headphones or through speakers? Does it matter to you? I'm trying to get into it and haven't figured out which is better.

Pinkcourtesyphone - Foley Folly Folio. One of my favorite ambient albums. It can definitely creep some people out, so I'd connect it around roly porter and ambient 4. Afternoon theme is probably one of my favorite ambient pieces.
Blink 182 - California

An experiment in a pen-and-paper composing general, made for all the theory autists
This differs from /prod/ in that it is more focused on art music and music theory. That is not to say /prod/'s electronic music is unwelcome, by all means, post here! But follow in the footsteps of the classical composers of the 20th century who experimented in electronic music. But remember, this is NOT /classical/. Any art music, such as jazz, is acceptable
Post clyps and accompanying notation so we can accurately critique your composing from a theory perspective

Also, re-posting challenge from last thread:
THE _NEW_ /comp/ COMPOSITION CHALLENGE #1 MODULATION. I want to open this up to more people since not many people seem to be doing it.
Compose a song that is no more than 60 seconds long. You are free to choose tempo, time signatures and other characteristics yourself, but here's the catch:
1. If you've never written a piece that modulates, now your time to start. Modulate to a different key somewhere in the middle of your piece, and then modulate back to the original key for the end. Keys that are commonly modulated to are relative minor or major and the dominant. These are good places to start. If you have modulated before, but only to closely related keys, try writing a piece that modulates to a distant key, 3 or 4 sharps/flats away.
2. If you're already comfortable with modulating _you MUST modulate within 4 bars of the last modulation__
That means that when the piece start, you must modulate to another key by the end of bar 4. You can also modulate in bar 3, 2 and 1, but when you modulate, the "counter" resets, and you have a limit of 4 new bars before the next modulation.
No more, but possibly less, than 4 bars between each modulation... OKAY?
Example: *piece starts in c minor*, bar 3: c major, bar 7: a major, bar 8: e minor etc.
Good luck.

>>65909565
I guess I'll repost my reply to the challenge of the last thread.
The 60 second limit is the most limiting factor here for me to be honest.
What are some examples of complete pieces or movements less than a minute long? Classical music preferred but open to any examples. Even just very close to a minute long is fine.

Hello. Gonna post my thoughts I guess. I got some of the tracks, and other stuff, I think which is nice.
1. This has a warm feeling to it. I particularly like the piano and what it does about 4 minutes in, but this style doesn't grab me too much.
2. The groove on this is great, although the track itself could use some more varitation.
3. Thought it was gonna be a fusion record, but it gets progressively freer as it goes. I'm not sure who would do something like this, though the track gives me some Coltrane vibes.
4. I don't like how the drums keep...

6. Opens up with a sitar, which is something rare. And there's also a harp so it's definitely Alice Coltrane. Haven't heard this particular record though. The sitar is mostly there doing background drones which don't really blend with the music. This sounds a bit too much like new age.
7. The drums/piano duo at the beginning was quite nice. It disappears as the sax is about to join. I enjoy what they do too, but not as much.
8. Lush life from John Coltrane with Johnny Hartman. Great pick, Johnny's voice is amazing and McCoy on the piano accompanies...

good job on some solid identifications there
I personally find track 5 is pretty interesting in how it contrasts to the other recordings and variations of the tune by the artist
