Moon Ate the Dark is minimalist, ambient modern classical, I guess. Spooky isn't far off actually. Pretty dark and moody. Quite good, if you're into that sort of thing. I'd also rec Anna Rose Carter's solo stuff (she's the pianist).
As for Newsom, it depends on what you've heard from her. If you're going in blank I'd recommend going chronologically, starting with her EPs. Hearing her development and progression as a musician and songwriter is interesting. Alternatively, start with Divers and walk your way backwards.
