This album gets a lot of hate that is completely unjustified. In a world of bland and uninspiring music, it is a gasp of fresh air to have an album that is not afraid to go against the grain. Everything from the can snare to the "death style" of the lyrics scream originality and creativity. James Hetfield's vocals sound better than ever, and the guitar work, despite a lack of solos, is on par with any Metallica release. The lack of solos again shows one more way metallica is not afraid to brake from the pack. People looking to move forward musically often try to make the music even more complex, it takes a true genius to look past that and relies that sometimes less is more. By removing the solos metallica is following in the path of Brian Eno and Philip Glass in moving towards a more simplistic approach to music. This was bound to attract hate from traditionalist metal fans, but the forward thinking and open minded fans would be able to look past this and see its genius. The only real problem this album has is that it might have been too forward thinking. The largely negative response to this album is evidence of this. St. Anger maybe a popular subject of criticism today, but in the future it will be hailed as the master piece it is. I hope that next time you listen to this album you too can put aside your preconceived notions of what a metal album should be. You will be presently surprised when you find that, behind all that bias and negative feelings, there is a masterpiece in every definition of the word.

Boy do the haters get busy on this 16-year-old. But scrutinize the "superman" matter (look it up) and you'll see that even if he thought he was sneaking something outlandishly filthy onto a pop record, his fans thought he was inventing a dance that involved flying, thus furthering the presumption of innocence so crucial to his cute. Unlike his crunk forebears, he's not into pimping or dealing or even strip clubs--"Booty Meat" is as explicit as his carnality gets, and not only is he looking not touching, he's hoping an amateur will "turn around just like a pro." He's still boy enough to worry about those F's, and the most winning of his many winning songs was written to, and on, his Sidekick 3. There are enough sonic strokes here to keep the wrong bizzer in ringtone rappers for a year. But Soulja Boy's spiritual secret is that with less subcultural support than, say, Be Your Own Pet, he's reached the top of his world on a few tips from ex-partner Young Kwon and the loyalty of human sidekick Arab. You can hear how tickled he is about it.
