Art Angels was definitely a departure from the old Grimes, and a lot of people weren't please with her new sound being a lot more glossy, polished, and generally "radio". But a lot of people, myself included, love this album. At first I was disappointed with the new style and mad she'd slipped into the mainstream. But after really stepping back, I'm starting to feel like if Grimes wants to do this who am I to judge. She's not the underground bedroom producer anymore, but Grimes turned out to be a great pop artist. I'm starting to think she never sold out, and this is just who she is now.
And I'm pretty into it.
I'm pretty into it as well. "Sell out" is just a lazy insult by people that never understood Grimes to begin with.
This is not an average pop album, I would say this is more like a critical pop album. Grimes is not just making pop songs, she really tried to make something new. The songs in this album, are, by far, more complex than in Visions. In an interview Grimes said that many songs from Visions she just made them in one day while she spent on this album 1 year.

Hey lads, gunna be tripping on acid tonight. Last night I sat for my friend who listened to ITCOTCK and he came buckets throughout basically the whole album. Basically, I want to have a similar experience and I was hoping to get some recs. I would prefer suggestions to be more electronic focused. I was thinking about listening to some BoC, and also probably some Boris. Any albums in particular that you have had transcendental experiences with while on acid?

I used to listen to MHTRTC on shrooms quite a lot and it was always great. The surreal and slightly dark undertones make for an interesting experience.

Grindcore deserves more recognition for its groundbreaking achievement in emotional expression through music. This is the best example of it.

I love the album Scum, every song is like a little game where you try to guess exactly when each song will devolve into blastbeats and screaming. I think the novelty wears off pretty quick though, and most artists in the genre are not very innovative or listenable. There are more things that could be done with it, and I like music with grindcore influences (Naked City, Melt Banana, etc.)

Napalm Death (and the bands that followed their lead) are clearly frustrated.Their lyrical content focuses mostly on the ills of society and their own failure. Much like jazz (from which they also took the blast beat), they abandoned many common notions of what constitutes music in order to more clearly express themselves. The chaotic, atonal, visceral sound of their music perfectly captures their frustration and conveys it to the listener. They're rebelling against society by rebelling against music.
While they're obviously not the first to experiment with these ideas, they used them to their advantage better than anybody before them.
