So I recently had to pay my Office 365 subscription with my credit card instead of my Visa card. When I did this, I noticed that I had also been subscribed to Groove Music, which gives me unlimited streaming music. I forgot I was subscribed to it so I haven't been using it. I can listen to anything I want without ads, and it recommends artists based on what I like. Is this a good deal for 7.67 USD per month? The only use of it I can think of is discovering new stuff that I might like. I am not aware of any free services that can do this without ads. It still feels a bit ridiculous because it's easy to torrent now. I listened to Marilyn Manson on the "radio" and then downloaded all of his stuff from 1994 to 2015 using uTorrent in less than an hour. Once I put that on my OneDrive, it's on my phone and I can listen to it anywhere.

how do i get inspiration? been producing for over 2 years now, ive never been so under-inspired before. i remember back when i didnt even know what the hell sidechaining is, i had so many ideas and melodies and chord progressions just jumping into my mind, now i cant do anything that makes me feel satisfied. i stopped listening to the music i used to love because of the jealousy that i cant ever make a track that good. ive started 3 projects over the past 5 months and scrapped them all. how does /mu/ deal with writers block?

take a break, listen to some genres you wouldn't normally listen to. Try starting your tracks totally differently than how you usually do - start with drums, start with a single melody and work your chords/rhythm around that. Think less, don't force it

This is the first Jimi Hendrix album I've ever listened to and I felt underwhelmed after finishing it because all the reviews said it was fantastic and stuff. Is electric ladyland actually better? Should I check it out?

so I'm studying graphics design and as a project we've been given the assignment to search for a piece of music without vocals which can be cut to a part of 20-40 'interesting' or 'versatile' Seconds. For this part we'll create a video (3d, real filmed without actors, mapping, handdrawn, anything goes).
I'm searching for other ideas (maybe classical or jazz-related) than the electronic stuff I'm mostly listening to but electronic is also welcome so if you know a song that has a very unique and probably suitable part in it tell me.

Who has had a greater influence on rock music than this man? Are the haters just contrarians? I know that /mu/ loves this man, I was in the thread we had when he died. From my perspective, the only people that hold a candle to him would be Paul McCartney and Frank Zappa. McCartney struggled to make it post-Beatles (>muh Band on the Run), and while Zappa is a much more talented musician he never had the same appeal as a songwriter as Bowie.
I don't take this as absolute. In fact, I want to be challenged. I'm 22 and I've been listening to music "seriously" for six years and David Bowie is the only musician that I feel the same spark of passion for as I did the moment I clicked on "Five Years." Yeah, he sucked in the 80's and 90's, but he had close to 30 albums and at least 8 of them are 7/10+. You can't say that about a lot of people.
Who would you argue is better? What are your favorite Bowie songs? What is your favorite album? CAN WE TALK ABOUT DAVID BOWIE?
I thought I was done with his earlier stuff but I recently found the BBC double album with him doing his early stuff live with Mick Ronson and I fucking love how great he has always been.

only #2 to McCartney, simply because he's like the elder statesman of rock music now, just as he was the (comparatively) level-headed Beatle. Regardless of whether he is making good music or shit, his reputation carries weight and he will be influential.
Personally I probably prefer Bowie but McCartney is still the king. The only person whose passing will create an even greater shockwave of posthumous appreciation
