It's one of their best, but I feel like a lot of people only say this because they're reluctant to accept the Soft Bulletin as their true masterpiece.

Surely AK's single isn't gonna be the only release from Paul Institute? Surely this is all leading to releases from both brothers?

ITT: Stories from anyone who has interacted with any even semi-popular musician of any sort
Mine:
>September 2012
>Rhode Island
>A$AP Rocky, Danny Brown, Schoolboy Q tour
>Show ends, about an hour later, most people are gone, midnight, streets empty
>Walking back to my car alone
>See Danny sitting way down the street alone, smoking, staring off into space by himself
>Approach him
>Plan to say how much I loved his set that night and his work
>Get about 10 feet from him before he notices me
>I smile and say "Hey..."
>He looks at me, suddenly looks totally panicked, literally jumps up and bolts into a dark, empty alley

I saw shaq at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

I don't come here much but isn't Tool really overrated? I like them well enough but they just aren't that great. I grew up listening to it (friends were obsessed with them), and I'm 29. I've listened to all the albums extensively and really enjoyed them for what they were. But in retrospect I think people really held them up too high and took it all too seriously. I'm wondering what younger people think of the band and if people still jack off to Tool thinking it's God's art or some shit. At this point does anyone even care if they ever release a new album? The last one came out 10 years ago and it wasn't even as good as the one before it, fuck it's making me feel old.
I don't see anything overrated about tool, super unique awesome chilling music. Pioneers of their own sound and kind of defined their own genre, sure the sound can get a little repetitious and boring after a while but there's more to it then that, and that's a big reason they're put on such a high pedestal.
>>63627869
Yea I mostly agree with you. The only reason I even thought about them or made this thread is because I randomly googled the progress of the new album after remembering they started working on it like 6 years ago and come to find out they played some new material live late last year. I listened to it and like all Tool, it sounded pretty chill and good. But holy fuck it's been a decade since 10,000 days was released and it sounded exactly the same. They're good at what they do but so one dimensional, I don't think they're capable of playing anything that doesn't sound like generic Tool and if they were I think their fans would hate them for it. Aenimus came out in 1996, then Lateralus, then 10,000 days in 2006, thats a decade. There are slight differences but they're basically playing the same stuff every album. Now it's been 10 years and they'll eventually release another album thats basically the exact same as the record that came out 20 years ago.

I'm 27 and I've listened to Tool since I was about 15 (my dad really likes them and introduced them to me) and they are my favorite band. I can't say what in particular draws me to them other than I've always liked strong quiet-load dynamics, and I couldn't really tell you if they're overrated or not. But I do think that they have the catchiest riffs among all prog-metal bands, and that has helped them stand the test of time quite a bit. Also, they are pretty secretive and have kind of a "mysterious" vibe around them, which makes people interested in what they're up to.
More like Mac?
