I've been kinda trying to get into hip hop for a while now, people told me it's great for parties and that it can easily cheer me up.
So far I've listened to the following rappers: Young Thug, Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, Desiigner, Waka Flocka Flame, Chief Keef, Kanye West, Drake, PeeWee Longway, Migos, Future, Young Scooter, Travis Scott, Lil Durk, Kevin Gates and some other people.
I also like to get familiar with the artists I listen to, so I watched a bunch of interviews with them, and I want to know... Why is Drake the only one that can speak a piece of proper English and sound completely intelligible at times?
He actually comes across as a rather eloquent person at times, but why? Why is he the only one? And why are others not like him? I mean, you're a rapper, you rely on your words, so aren't you supposed to be a great lyricist, be familiar with the language as much as possible and have a huge vocabulary, so isn't it a bit contradictory to be like this?
Then again, I didn't pay that much attention to their lyrics, they could be shy and awkward in interviews, but maybe their lyrics are better, I have to check them out yet on rapgenius because I can't understand them that much while listening to their songs. The majority like them sound like that incomprehensible character from The Wire that was maybe a female or something. Future is the biggest offender when it comes to this. But anyways, yes, I have to check out the lyrics.
rap is generally based on the culture and language of the rapper's upbringing. Never claimed to be the next poetry.
>Be, be, 'fore we came to this country
>We was kings and queens, never porch monkeys
>It was empires in Africa called Kush
>Timbuktu, where every race came to get books
>To learn from black teachers who taught Greeks and Romans
>Asian Arabs and gave them gold when
>Gold was converted to money it all changed
>Money then became empowerment for Europeans
>The Persian military invaded
>They learned about the gold, the teachings and everything sacred
>Africa was almost robbed naked
>Slavery was money, so they began making slave ships
>Egypt was the place that Alexander the Great went
>He was so shocked at the mountains with black faces
>Shot up they nose to impose what basically
>Still goes on today, you see?
