Are analog synths a meme? I really want to get pic related but I'm wondering if I'd be better off with a MIDI keyboard and some pirated VSTs.
you should distinguish two debates here:
1) hardware vs. software
2) analog vs. digital
A MIDI keyboard with a few knobs will still be a pain to label the knobs, which will also change between different VSTs, etc, so, most people think hardware is always better, but of course more expensive.
2) Analog vs digital: there's supposedly a difference but I think this also has to do with the quality of the product. A very expensive digital synth could sound better than a cheap analog one.

Trust me, there's no comparison. The clear cut sound from an analog sounds like a clear exhale and digital sounds like breathing through a straw.
