I don't know shit about jazz but I like this one.
Is jazz made by white people less cool?
It's the kind of album I might use to introduce someone to jazz. Wasn't Take Five a hit single? Maybe not one of the peaks of the genre but still, pretty fucking solid.
Uhh.. probably but, guys like Bill Evans proved it wasn't completely in the realms of impossibility for a white dude to stand with the cool black people of jazz

Laughing Stock but it's very close.
Both are part of a very special group of albums, along with spirit of eden, soundtracks for the blind, and f#a#∞
Laughing Stock
They're too different to compare. Laughing Stock has better production and instrumentation but it shares no common themes with Spiderland.
White Laughing Stock is the better sounding album I'd have to pick Spiderland because it's more meaningful to me personally.

If they actually utilize the effects in a good way I give them half a pass, but I swear most of the bands I see with 10-15 pedals in front of them on stage don't do shit with them but end up sounding like a siren or some stupid video game shit

Depends on what the lyrics have to say, how they're delivered, but more so what they have to say. I can think of one album where the lyrics are just kind of there, completely secondary to the instruments. But most of the stuff I listen to the lyrics work in tandem with the music. What do you listen to man?
