***READ THE GUIDE***
For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!
Field Repair
Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

Don't you deceive me. I know you didn't build that. I just wish it had a kit though, shit looks so god damn good.
Every attempt I make at panel lining my MG Turn A is turning into a disaster. How can one person fuck up so much on something that's supposed to be easy?
>>13673148
He did the waterslide markings it comes with though
So I just finished putting together the MG Proto Zero, and noticed that there were two small pieces left over.
When I checked the booklet to see which pieces were unused those pieces aren't crossed off, so what the fuck are they for?
It's E53.

this is far closer to the spider tank entry than the O II, it's not a similar paint scheme or body layout to the O II, the only similarity at all is that it's based on the O
After having a hell with the Sword Calamity I decided to start working on the MK VI.
It was a walk in the park compared to the Sword Calamity, finished putting everything together in under 4 hours, now off to airbrushing it!
>>13673409
their simple elegance is... so refined
Backside
>>13673446
Dude. That is so fucking rad.
Is it possible to fix scratches in plastic parts by going over the scratch with plastic cement and then sanding over it--much like how you weld seams together?
what do you guys think of my sanding supply's, any one recommend some upgrades?
>>13673467
If you're being serious, I don't know. I've had bad luck with rounding off pieces with these.
Sanding sponges are a must have, however, are a must-have.
So are sanding sticks and sandpaper in general supposed to only last like ten seconds before they turn white and become unusable, or am I doing something wrong?
>>13673466
Yes.
Paint also helps if you are planning to paint it.
Simply do a tad more over the area that got damaged, and then do the other coats over that.
>>13673496
Are you wetting your sandpaper down?
If you wet sandpaper or sanding sticks that aren't made for wet sanding, you'll lose all of the abrasive material.
>>13673508
I'm not.
They just seem to lose all of the abrasion extremely quickly whenever I sand.
i guess i'll blog on /m/ too
decided to go with flat aluminum for the wing binders of the zeta plus, I haven't got it here but I already masked the blue parts on and I'm going to do the white tomorrow morning. I'm also planning on making the pink a tint darker (sources on the net say to use red paint as opposed to black or grey to darken pink so i'll experiment a little)
Project is coming along nicely, once I get the pink to the right tint it'll really start to come along as that is 90% of the armour parts
>>13673514
Brush the shit out of the sand paper dip shit.

>>13673506
why would this work, plastic cement is just a solvent, it's nod adding any more material to fill the scratch in

>>13673659
>>13673801
>>13673809
Okay. In my defence, nobody ever told me that I was supposed to dunk my sanding sticks in water for them to work properly.
>>13673993
in addition wet sanding can be nice if you aren't wearing a mask because you get far less dust into your lungs
it also can get really fine finishes when you get into 2500+ grit range, but can sometimes be harder to see where your marks are at lower grit levels
>>13673999
Got it.
Any amazing sanding techniques I should know about, wise masters?
So far I've been going with "rub it a lot" and "use the appropriate grit and don't go too rough and ruin your model like a retard".
>>13674003
experiment with how hard you are pressing, and how fast you are moving the paper
people also have different preferences on moving in random directions to get the whole surface even or only one direction,
If you need to sand a flat surface and are using paper, get a popsicle stick or something similar and glue the paper to it, otherwise you will round off the corners.
My favorite sanding and body work tools are
>squadron sanding sticks, coarse, medium, and tri grit for finishing
>micromesh pads
>jewelers files
I also have some weird locally made strips that are very thin, and some cone shaped ones
this is just the stuff I have found I like after lots of testing, and it's really focused on heavy work like this old zaku kit
>>13674003
Sandpaper glued to popsicle sticks is great for sanding flat parts and much cheaper than buying premade ones
I bought the Kotobukiya Tsugumori kit but haven't bought a stand for it yet.
What color of stand would best fit it? White or black, maybe clear?
>>13674055
I like clear stands, the clear action base 3 looked better than I thought it would but I don't know how big the tsugumori is
>>13674072

sorry to repost this but i searching this GK of Ideon since one week now and i can't find any information.

>>13674089
It's just showing the mechanism in the hips to swing the legs down and forward a bit more for posing
>>13674089
It looks a bit better in a standing pose with the leg mechanism upward, but if you swing it downward as shown you'll have more range of motion for dynamic posing.
>>13674125
>>13674124
So it's just for posing. Thanks
How bad does spraying painting enamel paint looks? Guide says you shouldn't do it but enamel red is the only red i have atm.

>>13673793

also forgot to mention that once I put the first flat coat on the sparkly effect will mostly go away for a nice silvery/light grey finish which is what I wanted for it.
>>13673003
Guys question, how do you guys go about getting rid of weapon seam lines? The last time I got rid of seam lines from a weapon (which were the weapons of my GM Thunderbolt) it ended up being a snowy mess. How do I avoid having that happen to the part?

>>13675106
yup The guy has made great progressvand I saw how awful looking the shield looked in early threads.
Also I am the guy who built the DM Akatsuki with you over the summer. Now that school is done, I can finish it by treating the seams on the Shiranui pack and fixing the hip joint.
How did you tighten your hip joints since you had more experience with the DM Strike frame?
Paint and super glue is not cutting it and my drill bits have not come in yet
>>13674959
its not a brick at all, the extra parts only hinder the poseability slightly in a few areas but it is still perfectly flexible. the hardest part is just working around all the guns and fins sticking out in different directions and getting it to pose correctly with the mega beam rifle mounted at a weird angle.
>>13675202
Back when I was a young lad, I would have killed for this kit but we only had the 1/144 NG's back then.
>>13675245
So I need the rectangular blade? I can probably buy that at walmart...
So apparently Revive Qubeley is getting articulated fingers just like the Super Fumina.
>>13675277

I have sort of a general question about Gunpla. I built my first one yesterday and I really enjoyed it. It wasn't particularly hard and since the guide says that there isn't a difficulty difference between HG and MG should I bother with HG anymore? MG just seems all around bigger and cooler. Do people just get HG stuff because the one they want isn't available as a MG model?
>>13675289
get a PG
>>13675289
HG's are considerably cheaper, smaller, and have much broader selection. I like all my kits in the same scale and the variety. I stick to 1/144.
what's up bros it's been a while. left right after ibo came along and the shit posting was at it's maximum. Is it over now? can i finally breathe? did i miss the yearly generous anon? did he deliver?
is the January restock up yet?
>>13675289
MGs are way cooler. If you want one, get it.
>>13675266
1. Use nipper cut off far from the actual piece
2. What should look like after
3. Use nipple cut off half of nub
4. What should look like after
5. Use fingers or desk to stablize your hands. Slice off nub going upwards like a mountain.
5a. *optional: or use sandpaper to take off the nub. There are different grits, 1000 then 2000 should be good. DONE.*
6+7. What should look like after step 5. Do the same as step 5 on the opposite side till the mountain nub is flat.
8. Use finger nail to press on any stress marks to help make it disappear. (won't fully disappear if done wrong or did not use any sandpaper)
9+10. End result
11. Pic if you have mircoscope eyes. Otherwise it's barely noticable.
Good luck ! Please feel free to ignore my guide if you don't like it.
You need nippers and some flat sharp blade with a handle. Becareful please

>>13675292
The MGs I looked at don't seem that expensive. Maybe it's just because other models I have built were 40k stuff which was the price of an MG for a tiny little tank. I get what you're saying about HG though.
>>13675304not for a while now! with that fuck huge guison he can be as reckless as he wants since no one seems to be as competent as mika and lord pedo

just push really fucking hard
the hips will fit into place, but it takes too much pressure for my liking, reason why I was so wary of them
have a random delta
>>13675230
theres also the 1/100 HG. ill never complain about the HGs poseability compared to that thing, the shoulders have zero movement because the cannons sit on top of them, elbows only move about 40 degrees and the knees cant hold its weight at all with the AB stuff on there. plus all the partsformers components make it impossible to stay together and will crumble if you look at it funny.

Got a really nice kit for christmas and I don't want to just snap it and do panel lining on it, I'd like to make the colors look a little nicer. I've only painted model cars before, so I'm probably going to test painting a cheaper kit first.
Reading the guide for topcoating, will the colors of the base plastic look better by just topcoating them (no paint), or should I really think about practicing on the cheaper kit with a primer->paint->topcoat
>>13675427
Usually, I put on music from the series that kit belongs to. Lets me remember seeing it on screen or looking at it through manga pages.

>>13676150

>>13676161
If you're a snap-builder then you can use them to cover over nub marks that are left even after sanding, and they're a simple way to panel line as well. I prefer to use enamels to panel line since I think it takes less time
So when you guys paint parts, do you bother fully painting the whole thing? Like would you use paint on the parts that never see the light of day?
>>13676201
The more you paint where you can't see, the more fitment problems you have to correct later. It's really a case by case basis though, you definitely want to make sure you'll never run into a situation where you pose the kit and suddenly see primer or plastic though.
>>13676215
I ran into this problem a lot when I was painting the MG Unicorn where pieces that seem like they'd never be visible wind up being very prominent or noticeable. I just get annoyed whenever pieces have very deep recesses or when I have to move the clamp onto different areas to get another part of it painted.
>>13676234
generally if a part needs to have the clip moved, it means another type of attachment to a stick like sticky tack or masking tape would be more ideal

Yeah I have a Menards and home Depot. Why do you ask?
>>13677303
I have that same hobby knife from Menards, I'm pretty sure it's their store brand. Came with that light and like 10-15 blades in a plastic case yeah?
Are there any tutorials on building a beam saber is it just as simple as putting a clear pary into a hole?
>>13677309
Hey sorry for the late reply anon! Yeah it's the same one you described, but I don't really use the light on the knife. It doesn't help much when I have a lamp instead. I usually just buy standard replacement blades, I don't get too crazy with the ones that come with the knife holder. Good eye!
>>13675823
Yeah, it's Resin.
So someone tell me, is the GM Striker a good kit? It's one of my favorite GM variants so I'm going to buy it regardless, but I'd like to know what I'm getting into.
For HG kits, do you guys separate the front skit or just leave it be?
>>13677763
>>13677763
Depends on the kit I suppose and how the front skirt connects. I did it to my Revive Gundam and it was preddy gud.
Its always better to just snip it in the middle without removing any excess, as it helps the friction of the independent skirts.
>new Xabungle stuff from Bandai
HOLY SHIT
Are these going to be plamos or figures?

>>13677834
plamos
>>13677847
TAKE MY MONEY RIGHT NOW, BANDAI!
Does it say anything else? I read "1/100" in the bottom of the article. DO they plan to make those too?Any new Xabungle-related anime, maybe?
>>13677852
1/144 - the 1/100 refers to the Real Robot Revolution Walker Gallia.
Oh, It also seems to be not a standard plamo but a candy toy if Google Translator is right.
>>13677863
>candy toy
A 125mm candy toy?
>>13677834
>BANDAI SHOKUGAN
Candy toys like Assault kingdom
>>13677944
>Candy toys like Assault kingdom
Oh, fuck.
What is even the point?
Guys question, if you can still feel some nub (sometimes on one side only) should you continue to sand (I sand in one direction) or should I leave it be provided that It's mostly flat except for the other side. It's rare for me to actually sand a nub down flat perfectly, other times I end up going too much (I use 1k grit sandpaper) any tips to git gud at sanding?
>>13677834
Just buy the SoC.
So boyz, which to build first? Red or white?
>>13678084
White.
>>13678084
I like how that Zeta has the same colorscheme as the Strike Zeta.
>>13678090
thats a good point. Should I try to acquire the yellow bits and pieces from the regular RG Zeta and actually make the Strike Zeta?
>>13677645
One of the best GM kits, yeah.
>>13676882
evolution two in one
>>13676839
Any have any ideas?

No one that's worthy as a modeler! because when you do more then snapping a kit out its no longer a toy.
Dare i say it, Gunpla done right is art. I am well aware that this statement carries a lot of pretentiousness, but in a board that had people with talent getting over taken by the likes of you and your shit posting someone needs to tell you where you stand. this was once a grate general but not any more.
And before you start this "I just wanted to share so don't criticize me" and "I don't want to go any further with my hobby" let me answer you before you waist more of our time.
NOTHING is free from criticism, no matter what.
If you have no time to improve, we have no time for you.
Well that's me done I'm going back to lurking. Anyone who has already blocked snapfag just ignore this and have a Zaku Amazing, I'm just smashing my head against a wall for fun
>>13678084

>its no longer a toy
>it's no longer a toy
>Dare i say it,
>Dare I say it?
>this was once a grate general but not any more.
>This was once a great general, but not anymore.
>waist of our time
>waste of our time
ftfy.
If you're going to get on a high horse about people not having standards, at least hold yourself to some as well.
>>13678521
