***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Our next Group Build!

Field Repair

Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

1. They wouldn't kill Han when they renewed him for a new trilogy
2. Han doesn't have kid's since they Retconned half the old lore.
3.Kylo has no reason to kill Han let alone fuck with him since he's clearly out for Jedi's.

I have the Mr. Hobby nippers, Xuron 2175ET, and Tamiya Side Cutters. My order would be

Tamiya > Xuron 2175 > Mr. Hobby

The mr. hobby nippers are not nearly as sharp as the other two. The xurons are also very comfy if you have larger hands.
>>
>>13638553

I also like the xurons for their interesting cross-blade setup, it really slices the plastic instead of pinching it, the tamiya's are sharper but still can leave a "pit" because it's basically pinching the pieces

I agree. Use nippers to just cut the part off the sprue then files and sandpaper to get rid of the nub with minimal stress marks and no chance of pitting.

Best way as a snapfag, but it's faster to just flush cut with good nippers and putty then paint.

Hey niggas, can you guys help me pick between some modelkits for my friends present?
Amazon cancelled my order of the grimore so i cant really decide what to get him without a proper review.
The ones im looking at right now are the graze, kampfer/zaku amazing, and that four blades blue guy from g reconguista, any suggestion for kits under $17 and fulfilled by amazon(low on funds after buying gifts and amazon cancelling at last minute) would be great.
>>
>>13640285
I'd still recommend the grimoire, but can't go wrong with the Graze to get someone hooked.
>>
>>13640285
Graze is great, Kampfer is also nice. G-Reco has designs that are considered a bit odd, and while it isn't bad as a suit I don't think most people would prefer it to those other 2.

Get the Graze m8, it's from the new show, has inner frame and great articulation and is a fun grunt suit. If your bud is a hardcore UC fan then go with Kampfer.

Another amazing HG grunt is the Genoace/Genoace 2.

You are getting mad over nothing or might be a troll.
Dalong does not sort the list with something as specific as parts. I already spent a couple hours going through the list looking for a kit in a better price range.
>>

>>13640296
Graze or graze kai?

No, you just didn't look hard enough. If you cared you would have found it. It isn't hard to check each GM for a quick moment and find that info out. You bet I'm mad, it's stupid to want to find something to help your own model but not use resources provided and brought up constantly.

Both are the same except a few parts, so get the normal variant if you like the look. Good thing is if your friend wants the Kai he can swap parts out thanks to the inner frame. Good luck!

>>13640347

>>13640369
Hes a snapfag so dont expect much but he has had a genuine interest in gundam ever since the ps2 journey to jaburo game.
>>
>>13640371
Why would he make a universal parts list if you can check the individual runners of each suit? Less work on him if you're too lazy to check the damn pages of suits he is buying with his money so YOU can find out anything you want about them. Entitled brat.
>>
>>13640375
Well, panel lining and topcoat can go a long way. If he refuses then to do that at least it's stupid that he would keep his models in such a basic state. Enough of looking at great builds for inspiration (and bitching at him) should bring him around.
>>
>>13640381
I think the most he can do is panel lining since he doesnt have the tools and shit for it.
I can lend him my airbrush or whatever but i ran out of the topcoating ever since i fell out of the hobby.
>>
>>13640191
Blue Destiny Unit 03
>>
>>13640383
Well, let him try it at your house or something. Monitor him so he doesn't put those craft store acrylics in and break the airbrush. Then after he makes a custom and sees if he wants to continue building that way he can buy his own airbrush.
>>
>>13640378
Dalong does not neatly organize the info pages so I missed that Quel had a left trigger hand compared to the K9 page that has all hand parts in one picture. I was looking at the pictures with the assumption that if the kit came with additional hands are gonna be in one picture.
If you are gonna be mad just be mad that I never combed through all GM/grunt kit pictures with a fine tooth comb

I'm going to order my first Gunpla HGUC kit, as a sort of Christmas present for myself, and since it's my first I want to avoid painting for now and just understand the basics of building a kit. I know the term you folk use is "snapfag", so I assume it's relatively easy for most people to cut and snap the pieces together, but I don't want to be too ambitious and fuck things up. I definitely don't have deft hands, I'll tell you hwhat.
Anyway, I want to know if there is anyone else posting in this general living in the Netherlands, and if they know any good stores with a decent selection of gunpla. I've only found Gundam Market and A Space Oddity - Space Oddity being relatively expensive, and Gundam Market, while cheaper, only have 30 out of 172 models in stock. Are these two my only domestic options, or will I have to order internationally?
>>
>>13641317

Haven't built a gunpla model in about 7 months, mostly because I got so discouraged by my ability to de-nub and panel line I just gave up compared to /m/'s dope models but I'mthinking about picking a MG Kampfer, MG Zaku II and MG Hyaku Shiki, anyone have those/could just give a small review?

Also I'm slowly making my way through ZZ, what are other essential Gundam series? I'm just watching ZZ so I don't miss anything leading to Char's Counterattack then I'm watching Unicorn, maybe Wing, and Reconguista in G then moving onto Iron Orphans.

Is there anything I'm missing? Already seen MSG79, Zeta, and 08th MS.

I'd say the extra one or two europlops, pocket change, is worth only having to wait literally a day.

Haha, not a bad idea, domestic production for things such as advanced military systems are often a major part of selling these systems abroad, just look at the Brazilian Gripen deal with Embraer. If I ever get good enough to try out painting I'll try to do a better Swedish police patlabor. The whole Idea was born from the patlabor TV episode where they visist Clancy's NYC patlabor unit in a dream sequence. "build your country's patlabor" could be a cool group build some day

First-time builder here, just ordered HGUC GM and Jegan over Amazon
Have everything but the paint and markers
You think that those are good starter kits? And is the lack of detailing going to be a problem?
>>
>>13643123
Its purpose is to placate hamhanded snapfags who lack the dexterity to properly build gunpla in its true 1/144 scale. Since these fuckers lack the precision and dexterity to work with the superior 1/144 scale, which scales well with everything else, 1/100 is a gateway scale that lets more drivel into the hobby. 1/100 is a wholly unnecessary scale. If you want big go for a 1/60 otherwise stick with 1/144 since its what Gunpla is meant to be.
>>
>>13643745
GMs are excellent beginner kits. The lack of details is perfect, actually, for practicing your paint techniques.

Anyone else strip the gold from an MG Hyaku Shiki 2.0?

Been submerging the gold runners in purple power for a little over 8 hours now, and while some parts are mostly the opaque runner, there are parts with most of the gold still on. I've read some unsavory things about the Exia MG. Exia is one of my favorite gundams but would getting the NG 1/100 be better than the MG considering it's cost?
>>
>>13644114
What issues? And it depends on the amount of detail and junk you want in your model. Any shortcomings in manufacture can be rectified if you know your way around with tools.
>>
>>13644114

why would you get anything but the rg?

if it has an rg, that is it's definitive version.
>>
>>13644147
This pretty much. The RG is fucking golden, as are most RGs.

>1/144
>>
>>13642815

>>
>>13644193
Do it, it's a nice kit. Also hopefully you paint, because otherwise the joint connecting the torso and the hip is pretty crappy.

I'm thinking of dropping money on a decent airbrush setup so I can finally paint it. Before I'd use my roommate's, but now that I moved out I need to get my own.
>>
>>13644191
>Hating 1/144
It takes more skill and patience to work at that scale and give it good detail anyway. I'd say the 1/144 line is secretly the best for modelers but they'll never admit it because muh easy build, size and parts count.
>>
>>13643982
It's fine anon, I like the collection.
>>
>>13644199
to a certain degree. Then eventually if you stick with it you reach Ascended Saiyan Modeler and can make masterpieces at any scale.

>>13644184

>>13644114

anyway in terms of looks I would highly recommend the MG
best looking Exia of them all if you ask me

everything else is mostly solid EXCEPT I really hate the GN drive on it

MG GN-X's drive is about a million times better
>>
>>13644195
I probably won't have enough free time until after the holidays.
>>
>>13644199
They're too small, MGs look so much better on your shelves. Ideally everything would be PG size, but that's obviously not viable so I settle for MG
>>
>>13644211
Smaller models means more gundams per square inch.
>>
>>13644199
Personally I think they are too small to really display. Not to mention, yeah,, detailing is a bitch. But to each their own

>>13644114
I like the whole inner frame thing, even though I would totally buy a RE100 Leo.

From the looks of it and what little Ive read though the Exia NG 1/100 isnt a bad kit. Its not like it was made in the 90s. Its probably like buying a large HG.

For what its worth, I'd just save up a little more money and get the MG. In the grand scheme of things it wont matter if you spent an extra 15 dollars or whatever. Thats like a few drinks at the bar.

But if you have like 100 kits and just want an exia for some reason go for the NG.

tldr: Either way though they both seem like decent kits.
>>
>>13644201
Pretty crazy that we ended up with four different animated series during this past year
>>
>>13644231
Indeed, this year was a busy one for Gundam.
>>
>>13644199

>It takes more skill and patience to work at that scale and give it good detail

Patience?
definitely

skill?
no not at all
bigger size = more total surface area = more potential for modification

the only way RGs are any harder is in the sense that working with such tiny pieces is frustrating

MGs and PGs still have more parts than RGs on average and also far more unique engineering
>>
>>13644225
>too small to really display.

Well as long as you don't do something like surround a 1/144 it will be fine. I usually keep my 1/100s on the opposite side of the room from my 1/144.

Either way, some modelers just build models for the sake of building models, and going mainly HGs is most economical.

Not to mention that will be where you see more in terms of selection of kits, even though most of them are shitty or recolors.
>>
>>13643982

>>
>>13643824
25600 jpy before shipping, handling, customs and taxes, after all that around 46000 yen.
>>
>>13644244
It sucks theres no weapon or custom packs like they make for 1/144.

Not to mention that the MG is pretty much dead. Next year they will probably only release 3 kits, two of which will probably be p-bandai.
>>

To anyone who has MG 3.0, I need some help.

Since the copper stickers on the elbows are infamous for peeling off, that means that there's no tolerance there for another layer of anything on the part.
Therefore, am I correct in thinking that if I plan to paint it, I should sand it down (by say, half a mm) to ensure the paint doesn't get scraped off by the bending movement of the elbow?
