***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

You know what? Fuck it. I'm not finishing this thing until I can afford to get a soldering iron. I realize it's an old kit, but why did Bandai ever think that using a screw to both strip and hold down a wire that thin was a good idea?
>>
>>13650674
That leaves you with the same problem that you get with P-Bandai jewery. You're still paying more because someone in Japan needs to pay retail for the kit, mark it up to make a profit, and ship it overseas.

Is it acceptable to paint your kits a bit after you finish assembling them? I'm going to start up gunpla after the holidays and I want to build guys I like first, but the problem is that I am not confident enough to paint yet.
>>
>>13650799
Since you're not using paint, I'm going out on a limb and assuming you're not using glue either. If you read the guide, you'd know that prebuilding to understand how a kit goes together and then breaking it back down to paint is highly recommended.

I'm planning on making an HG humming bird. What kits could I bash in order to get the huge thrusters and stuff? My first thought was the S and Ex-S for thrusters/hyper beam saber tube things. The hardes part for me will be the giant leg boosters. I can't quite think of something that would work for that.

any ideas?

>>13650821
Have you considered the old 1/144 S Gundam [BST]?
>>
>>13650799
Anything is "acceptable". Viable is a different matter.

If handpainting, yes. If spray/airbrush, then not unless you plan on centing, in which case the initial assembly is only temporary and you dismantle it once later (with pegs and such cut before the first assembly to make dismantling easier)

Our next Group Build!

Field Repair

Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.

You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.

In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

Deadline seems to be March

Same. I wish we got a proper MG L-Gaim. We only have the Mk-II, but a Mk-I would be a dream.

Finally sat and started watching Build Fighters after forever.
Motivated me to build my first Gunpla in years and i'm in love with this little guy.

Where's a good place to buy Hobby Tools tho?
I want the like required Clippers, File, Xacto Knife and stuff.
I know local Hobby Shops most likely but is there like a set I can just buy online?

Bandai star wars kits are still available on Amazon from Japanese retailers. It's only the big named ones who got hit or they gave a shit about.

And prices are going to be marked up everywhere right now because the movie was just out and the kits are getting bought up.
>>
>>13651132
Put on some music you like, or try listening to an OST of what the RG belongs to, and just power through. You might also be really impressed by something as you keep building and be encouraged that way. I had never built a Zeon unit before my RG Zaku II, the eye system was fucking ingenious and that spurred me to work more on gunpla again.
>>
>>13651132
>>13651158
I tend to watch things while I build. I wind up going slower, but don't burn out anywhere near as fast. Youtube videos, tv shows, movies, that kind of thing. Just avoid anything with subtitles. That... doesn't work so well.
>>
>>13651132
You payed shipping and waited weeks for it, finish it. You owe it to yourself.
>>
>>13650986
They sell sets but you're honestly better off just buying the tools separately. Sets tend to come with some stuff you don't really need and won't really use. Just look on amazon if you're in the US.

Nope, I was just at the Radio Kaikan, prices are still below retail. The Kylo Ren Figuarts is going for full retail price though (something really rare over here).

Also in case anyone is here or planning on coming here soon: Yellow Submarine Radio Kaikan is doing a Christmas sale with 39% off stuff like the MG Hi-Nu Ver Ka, Banshee, Exia Ignition, Dark Matter, FA Unicorn, Sazabi Ver Ka, Gouf, and one of the Zaku 2s
>>
>>1365119
Oh and that priced the MG Hi-Nu Ver Ka at 4500 yen FYI (it's the only price tag I paid attention to because I was seriously considering it, but eventually refrained because of my huge backlog and pre-order list)

Yeah. It doesn't help that one of the grey wires sheered off just under the head of the screw when I realized that I had them a little tangled and tried to pass the switch between what looked like a large enough space between the grey wires. I'll need to buy some replacement wire, and as I said, probably a soldering iron. I've been wanting one to fool around with some electronic projects for a while, so maybe I'll pick one up come tax season.
>>
>>13651232
I don't even know if I did the wiring right since I can't find the specific batteries for that shit, and I built that fucker over a year ago now.
>>
>>13650659
mfw suck it western fags

>>
>>13651239
I didn't have an issue with the batteries, got them at walmart. The problem is that a lot of different brands use different labels for the same battery. The packages usually list some common labels that they're compatible with. For example, the Duracells I bought for this kit are marked on the front as a 301/386 but list the SR43 as compatible, and the SR43 is the exact same thing as the LR43 that the manual calls for.
>>
>>13650666
Out of curiosity, PG Wing Zero?
>>
>>13651277
Yes it is. I've been on a PG kick now that I've moved out of the bedroom I was renting and have room to put them out.
>>
>>13651273
I have only been able to find LR42 or SR42 and I don't know if that would somehow fuck it up because I don't know shit about batteries.
I'll keep it in mind to look for 301/386 though.

>>13651277
PG Wing Zero, yeah
>>
>>13651297
The 42 is a slightly different size, so it wouldn't work. I'd just go to department stores, look at what they have in the electronics department, and if you don't find it, check the jewellery department on the way out. They sell batteries for watches.

Started on the MG Sword Calamity Resin from Neograde.

Not a single part seems to fit, I've literally had to remodel the MG Freedom parts and cut stuff off of them to be able to fit it in the resit kit armor.

Anon who asked originally a thread or so ago here, I've looked around prior to seeing if you guys had any leads, and found out that Zvezda makes or made some 1/72 Russian infantry.

I just looked over them a little more, and I guess I can just use those if I use a different camo scheme and make sure the individual pouches and such look more distinguishable, but I'm not sure if that's the kind of thing you want.

That's the exact same thing. If it leaves any nub at all you can sand or use a knife. Hell, if you're going to use putty to remove the seam, it's redundant because dunkaroos to donuts you're going to be sanding where that nub was anyway. Is this a nipper for snapfags?
>>
>>13652802

probably
>>
>>13652802
Its actually intended for tiny, fragile parts (the really tiny stuff like on military models that pressure from the nipper can break) as well as preventing the nipper from stressing the plastic's surface through pressure on the gate during the initial cut.

Snapfags latched onto it though.
>>
>>13652802

>Is this a nipper for snapfags?

Well that's sort of reasonable if you're making some of those really expensive models in smaller scales (tfw 1/144 tanks). But people who do that are pretty niche in the already kinda niche model hobby. I think they're trying to sell these to just about everyone, which makes sense since they are a business.

Lolwut, military kits are way the fuck bigger than gunpla. And on a whole different league all together. Not saying you can't pimp out gunpla real fucking nice either, but Bandai makes a good job at making sure it's accessible to everybody, in every sense of the word.

I kinda wanna upgrade my model skills from just snapping and lining. I was thinking painting minor details on would be a good start. Anyone here who hand paints a lot have any good tips before I fuck up amazingly?

Airbrushing allows for uniform, clean, crisp paint jobs. I've heard some people hand paint their models, and some are really good, but it takes lots of skill and practice. You can do a lot of the same shit, but airbrushing is just generally less time consuming, more efficient, and neater.

A good example of this would be, batch painting. Are you really in the mood to hand paint a RG's worth of pieces, when you could just batch paint a certain color each time?
>>
>>13653454
I didn't think about just the number of pieces comparatively. That's a fair point, will probably start looking into an airbrush.
