It doesn't matter if it's using those elements to do something new. It's still blaspheme against this place's gods. This is especially true for Getter, due to Gurren Lagann's fanbase, but it's generally true to a lesser extent for everything else too.

Honestly, I think most of this season has been extremely poor, bordering on shit. The first season was amazing, best mecha series of 2015, but this one is so weak and no longer has the same sense of urgency and wonder. Season 1 felt like it was leading toward something, while this one just feels aimless. The Yokai and supernatural episodes have just been incredibly painful to watch.

Yesterday's episode was fairly good, but the show is no longer intriguing. I can't tell you what it should have done differently, but things right now feel incredibly drawn out, and there's a sense of pointlessness.

Hoestly this is basically how the first season was as well. We had a couple of plot driving episodes early on, and then several more stand alone ones. This second half is following the same pattern, and now it looks like we're moving back towards the main plot with this episode and the confirmation on Jiro's blood and a flashback to his past next episode.

I see elements from various robots. Raideen, Getter, Mazinger, Tetsujin, Boss Borot, etc.

The yokai episode has been the worst of both seasons so far. Half of it feels like Emi traveling to the underground, then turning around and traveling back while exposition dumping the whole time, and it's way to transparent and obvious with the "Look how stupid and evil the government is being!" I think it's because the first season had a single event that it could build itself around, and most of the episodes tied into that event in some way, building up the viewers' expectations until they actually showed us what happened in the finale. The second season doesn't have a consistent focal point like that, so it feels less cohesive.
