***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

I totally did to, I've never broken a part before but that one was so easy to break

for anyone who hasn't built the kit, there's only that small strip across the chest and the way it attaches requires some force to remove, so you squeeze it and as soon as the rails on the side are no longer detached it snaps

Don't do this.

Origin isn't canon for one, war in the pocket is.

The Alex is designed as a newtype use machine whereas RX-78-2 isn't. Think magnetic coating RX-78-2 on roids. Also includes the chobham armour and the wrist cannon on Alex is stronger.

The transformation for this kit is rather tedious, very tight fitting parts. The overall drawback for the kit is poseability. It's really not the most dynamic posing kit in robot mode.

Thanks. I'm mostly just using the colors of the runners as a guide. If it's a light blue I go bright red, if it's dark navy, I go dark red, and then I paint the individual details like panel lines and shit. Going with the same dark red I'm using for the brighter red's panel lines, and a dark grey for the dark red's panel lines.

I really like the whole "Char Custom" thing, and since I used the claw and boosters for my Barbatoses, Figured I should do some simple kitbashing.

so the big hobby show that bandais probably been holding off for is in about ten days maybe a bit more. What kind of announcements are you hoping for? I wouldnt mind some more option parts, weapon systems or new action base type.

Still plenty of weapons they can do too, Origin style 100mm -> 100mm ->100mm kai. 90mm smg-> 90mm gm rifle ->90mm gm heavy rifle/lmg. Gm 2 style beam rifle -> Gm sniper custom rifle from zeta (used body of gm 2 beam rifle) -> gm wagtail beam rifle. Kampfer pistol grip shotgun -> kampfer stock shotgun -> Zeon folding stock shotgun.

Option set for zeon shoulder domes would be nice. Have it like the rg in a sense where it has the base inner frame, two types of lips for the dome standard smooth and shin matsunaga ridges. Three types of outer armor a smooth zaku dome, zaku 2 three spike holes and one for spikes but with fz elongated hump and vent. Spike dome where you can interchange all three spikes be it standard zaku 2, gouf, f2/fz, marasai. Because of the mix and match theme you could make your own or other variants like ground highmobility zakus curved horn.

Hidden manipulators, like The 0 and a few AoZ kits manipulator arms that can be put on hard points, under skirts etc that can hold beam sabers, emit saber blades or even use standard fists if the person wanted. One type could be simple arms that have no armor, or attachable armor to make it look as if its part of a shoulder or skirt maybe even back pack.

A new action base type with road or terrain elements, of just new action base 1 and 2 colors. Wouldnt mind a simple clear 1/144 type. Ehhh sorry been playing side stories on ps3 so the pale rider arm gimmick from its upgraded form got me.

Is it wrong to want people to put in effort in their kits?
Is it wrong to want people to get better at a hobby if they truly enjoy it?
Is it wrong to want threads not spammed with the same poorly assembled kits every day?

If you answered yes to any of these you might want to fuck off.

From a technical/fluff standpoint, the Alex is a more well-rounded machine, and as well built with the height of OYW technology. It has a stronger powerplant, the 360-degree panoramic cockpit, and in general is built from the ground up for non-human (Newtype) pilots to push it to its ultimate potential.
We have to remember that what makes the RX-78-2 in fluff great is not so much itself, but it's monstrous Canadian ginger pilot, Amuro. By the time the Gelgoog is released, the Gundam is technically far outpaced in on-paper ability aside from its superior armor and mobility in a weight/performance standpoint (even moreso with magnetic coating). It can't even support its own beam weaponry like the Gelgoog can; it's powerplant is too weak. It is only able to use E-caps without being able to recharge the gun off its own Minovsky generation.

Origin-wise, the RX-78 just got a lot more "sensible" upgrades with spot and fixed-hardpoint weaponry; probably it's not as effective in terms of caliber as the Alex (compare, say, a Gouf's hand-gun to a normal Zaku machine gun), but a good fix for a machine of its generation.
>>
>>14190449
wrist cannons..
Doesn't that make the Gundam Alex kinda moot?

>>

>>
>>14191324
They're probably no more powerful than vulcans. It's the RX-78-2, remember? It's a more military-minded machine than later MS that can:
- fly in the atmosphere freely (that is like fucking witchcraft magic during the OYW holy shit how are you futurepeople doing this madness)
- stuff guns and lasers and spindly support arms all over the MS and still support the weaponry's energy requirements, the weight, the targeting hassle, the logistical bullshit behind it, and how silly it looks overall when you describe it as a military weapon

I would assume the Origin Rx-78-2 has a lot more vulcans (which makes more sense than facing the entire head at missiles for CIWS defense), but the Alex has full-blown anti-MS weaponry (e.g. vulcans vs Gouf Custom's 3-barrel 35mm machine gun).

My first attempt at pla-plating. Give me any complaints and criticisms so i can improve. personally i like thick legged robots, especially around the shin area. Need to fix up the v-fin and still work on the other leg. That antenna on the back is just a place holder when i make a better one. My question for you guys if the missles on the leg is too much or not. Still have a lot of work ahead of me.
>>
>>14191346
I would at the very least he thins his paints.
Though you have to admit that hand-painting won't KILL a paint job like /gunlpa/ believes it will.

It just requires practice and knowing how paint works. I get pretty passable flat-panel hand-painting done with thinned paint (rounded panels or corners just require a slower hand and more strategy in your brushstrokes), patience, and doing your best to not run over previous brushstrokes.

It's not that hand painting will end your paint job; it's just that it takes more effort and practice compared to airbrushing (and technically won't ever be as nice as a skilled airbrush job to begin with).

However, it's not something to be afraid of.
>>
>>14191346
The trick is perpendicular layers. The rest is avoiding paint bubbles/pooling and correct thinning ratios.

The paint is still a bit thick in places, most obviously on the shoulder.
>>
>>14191366
Correct me if I am wrong, but the Gundam's vulcans are enough to severely damage a mobile suit like the Zaku II at close range.

I think what got me interested in the wrist cannons was the whole 'if Amuro had the Alex, he'd just would of got in close range with the wrist gattlings and finished the Zeong off no problem.'
>>
>>14191403
It's a bit of plot armor as to how much damage vulcans can actually do.

On paper they shouldn't even scratch the super-hard steel of Zaku armor (however are excellent for taking out the head due to the monoeye rail being a target).

If you get an important character behind vulcan cannons, suddenly they behave like true MS machine guns with the accuracy of purpose-built sniper rifles.

Vulcans in-setting are supposed to only be good for CIWS defense of opportunity against anti-MS infantry and missiles flying at the MS. I think even against normal, non-MS-sized tanks they sort of are supposed to chew away at them rather than obliterating them.

Since I'm apparently a moron and don't know a thing about topcoating; is it ok to use matte topcoat on the Nu. v Ka? Will it preserve the waterslides (i.e. they won't slide off on my finger while I'm handling the kit)?

Hunt for bargains on the net. It's harder in the US because of shipping, but in Singapore, stuff comes quickly and cheaply.

HLJ often does sales and they tend to sell at a slight discount off the MSRP too. Most of the time I end up buying half a dozen kits over a couple of months and pack them all off in one huge box to save on shipping.
>>
>>14192290
As far as Dragon Momoko goes, I've only built their version of the Petitgguy and the torso of my Tallgeese II so far. So what I can say for the DM kits for now is that the pegs for each part are either too loose or too tight, so it's either you'll need to cement them in, or sand them first. And I've only heard bad things about the Tallgeeses, that is in terms of their ability to stand. But that's something a little cement and blutack can definitely fix. In terms of design and details, DM is great if you're someone who doesn't want to venture into panel scribing just yet.

I'm still waiting on news about DM's PG Unicorn.

I hear that the DM Akatsuki is undergated like the MG Hyaku Shiki 2.0, so that's pretty neat.

I can't really say anything about the Daban kits since the MG The O on my pic is just my first Daban kit. I plan on getting a Daban Sazabi ver ka in the future though.
>>
>>14190204

also that's pretty funny
>>
>>14192308
All right, that sounds... kind of promising. Lay on the blu-tack, I guess. The undergating is good to hear about. I was mainly concerned about flash and the parts fitting properly.

As for me, I would get a Bandai Sazabi Ver. Ka despite the cost; it's a complex kit and I'm willing to pay more to make sure it comes out well. Dalong's builds sold me on it.

I make $60,000 a year as a single man who does not pay for anything else. This is truly the dream life. My goal one day is to move out and buy a house for all my gunpla

Truly truly I say unto you, invest as much as you can early in your career and while your costs are low living at home and you will eventually be able to buy orders of magnitude more gunpla for your backlog relative to the plebs.

does this seem to you like the kind of crowd that is able to defer reward?

half the people here are heavily mortgaging their futures already

I'm just speaking for myself here but
you're absolutely right, I'm a very weak-willed man.

My only backlog is a Nyaia conversion kit that's in the middle of seam removal for the past year or so. Hopefully stalled builds also count toward backlog totals as well as unopened boxes. Am pretty new to all this.

A fair point! I'm just tryna help get personal finances in order so people can afford more gunpla and through economies of scale drive [my] kit purchase prices down. Or at least that's what I tell myself.

Prepare for the unexpected

MG Transient Gundam based off of Exia and 00 Qan[t]. You thought BFT would only receive one MG release? You thought GN frame shilling will end?

It's true, anyone in the US with some extra money for long term should have a Roth IRA. There's a cap on how much you can put IN, that's how good a deal it is.

MfaceplantW building a non-creepily-sexualized feminine mobile suit is harder than anticipated. Pic related also includes willful misappropriation of waterslides left over from RX-178.

Take a few courses in Electronics Technology, you will need to know how to make a circuit and solder.
>>
how often do you replace your nippers? can you sharpen them?
>>
>>14193516
No. Also, like scissors most nippers turn to shit because the joint becomes loose and it doesn't align properly. At that point just buy new ones, there's no point in sharpening them, any improvement will be margin.

Just be careful with them. Don't drop them or be rough with them.
