***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

I am in that part of the world where an airbrush is expensive and Tamiya paints are rare. But the local hard ware has spray paints. Their brand is Bosny, are those any good?
>>
>>14178966
>hardware store
No. Hardware paint is thick and just not for kits.

Go to a hobby shop, it doesn't have to be one with Gunpla, stuff with military kits is fine. Their paint is actually for model kits. Just buy those. It really doesn't matter what brand they are as long as it's from a hobby shop.

This guy was my first real try at masking, using both masking tape and the stock stickers that came with the Stargazer. the chest is an easy fix, the skirt not so much

As for the orange peel, I blame either the low 50s its been out the last two days or the Rustoleum I'm using for the light purple. I would use Tamiya or even Testors but this was the only brand with the similar shade that I needed.

Also I'm not sure how I feel about the dark purple. might just strip it and do it up in the purple on the legs.

Question regarding Bandai reissues.

When they reissue a kit, in this case the 1/72 VF-25, do they do so with all the improved developments through its lifetime? Or do they provide the original "as the kit was releases" version.

I'm asking because the original VF-25 kit has really fragile wing-joints that they modified and fixed in the Tornado Messiah release. (Pic related, you can see the metal bar joint for the tornado in step 8)

Unfortunately, the Tornado Messiah is not getting a reissue, only the VF-25 vanilla, super, and armored packs. I want to know if these reissues incorporate the new modified wing joint or not?
>>
>>14179393
If they update a kit, it's a separate release, like how any 2.0 MG is a different kit than the original. Reissues are the exact same kit from when it was originally released
>>
>>14179393
>When they reissue a kit, in this case the 1/72 VF-25, do they do so with all the improved developments through its lifetime? Or do they provide the original "as the kit was releases" version.
Latter.

If the kit is updated they release it as a separate kit.

Working on the optic for this guy

Happy with the mount system for now, it actually stays on the rails and is moveable, I will add more little details to things before final. I'm not sure sure about the rest of it yet.

The front of the optic has a longer removable scope for the dmr mode. I used a drill chuck to taper the back of the tube which looks nice up close.

I have lots of other little junk to add I just want to get the proportions and stuff figured out first
>>
>>14179393
Other companies like Aoshima do it but I can't think of any cases where Bandai has. When they reissued ancient G-Savior and F90 stuff when Build Fighters was airing it was still the shitty ancient kits.
>>
>>14179422

I decided on the side mount because it triggered me that the magazine for the SMG blocked it when it was centered

Yeah, that's called masking (also why masking tape is called that). That being said, regular masking tape generally doesn't do a very good job and I find that the adhesive is too strong and leaves a sticky residue. You probably want to use something like tamiya masking tape if you can, or at least some painters tape (although I have found that paint can get under painters tape)

The worst parts are that its molded as thick chunks like resin kits instead of hollow parts and that the shoulder and hip "Joints" are literally just holes in the plastic with a balljoint on the main body.

Also, the shoulder armor is directly molded the the arm and the feet are directly molded to the shins.

If it did then it was never seen utilized, as far as I am aware. The Slaughter Dagger kit is just a re-color of the 105 Dagger+Gunbarrel with a different backpack. So there would be no outward indication of whether or not they have the same arsenal, but I'm going to guess no

I just built the 1/100 Gusion this week. Akihiro and his four-armed Reskinned Barbatos can suck it. Those parts are never coming off the runners. Exception being that humongous halberd which will adorn another kit.

For some reason I dig IBO but can't make myself like the Barbs. The series has top-shelf grunts and antagonist customs though. Like 00 and Wing.

That 1/100 Kimaris Trooper can't get here soon enough. So glad I didn't buy the Booster.

Hey guys, quick question about topcoating. I've never done this shit before, so I wasn't sure if I should topcoat the entire model once it's finished, or topcoat the "chunks" (i.e., chest, leg) separately. Or if I should just topcoat each "surface" piece individually (i.e. outer armor plating). I'm very new to this and don't want to fuck up my ver.Ka, so I might end up getting a cheap kit to practice on.

It's too red. Typically with red you want it to be gloss. I think if there's less then it would look nicer. In its current state it is just too saturated

>>
>>14179422
not sure if this is how itll be mounted but I need to point out that normally optics dont go from big to small. The big lens goes forward while the side the "eye" goes is usually the smaller side. The bigger the front usually means the more magnified it will be and how much field of view as well.
>>
>>14181427
That's more up to personal preference I would think. Some people might like gloss for red, others flat. I think that anon's model looks fine as is.

I couldn't figure out how I wanted to do the longer sesor, if I wanted to be a replacement or tack on to the front or what. I came up with something removable like the other parts. The longer scope can attach and stay in place via friction to those two strips on top of the rail attachment.

I haven't built anything in like half a year.

Not since I realized that my house (old as fuck) apparently produces infinite spiders, so I can't leave anything I've painted out for more than a few hours before something has crawled all over it or decided to add web camo.

Is there any not super expensive (I'm limited on space) case or something I can put plamo and parts I've painted in to dry/be assembled without allowing Peter Parker's retarded cousins in?

Note: I don't display my plamo, I just like building and painting, I stick them in their boxes for storage once I've completed a project and shown it off to friends, so the case doesn't have to be enormous, just big enough for an assembled MG I guess.

anyone here get the graze ein? was wondering if I could get one or two of the spare normal graze frame parts left over off someone. Bought a high mobility graze to use the leg joint from that one and was going to figure something out once I was done for the high mobility. Been debating propellent tanks from knee down Dra-c style but as the ein has spare frame parts I thought someone on /m/ might still have those left over.

Flat coat doesn't make your gundam look realistic, it makes it look like a toy, or a rich persian douchebag's car.
>>
>>14182395

there are literally no reflections on that car

that is exactly what flat means

nearly every source for the image you posted says the same

here is an actual semigloss car

>>14182402

nearly all military modelers flat coat

and almost no toys are flatcoated

what are you even talking about, put your trip back on and just get better you lazy shit
>>
>>14182406
I posted the flat car to show that's what you flat coat people make your gundams look like.

The semigloss car you posted is what your gundams should look like if you want realism.

Flat might look cool on military models, but the real jets aren't flat. We need to stop copying them. Semigloss looks best for gundams. Otherwise you just have dusty looking zakus.
>>
>>14182414

explain why you think gundams being semigloss looks "realistic" other than you just accidentally just painted your plastic kit to look exactly like plastic

gloss will make it look like plastic. semigloss is a nice balance.

but heres my explanation on why semigloss is the most realistic option. It's pic related.

also, why didn't they flat coat the 1:1 scale gundam in japan if that's supposed to be the realistic interpertation of a gundam?

>gloss makes it look like plastic

there is literally a kit in this thread painted semigloss that is indistinguishable from plastic

plastic does not reflect your face back at you, which is what gloss does.

light does not change with scale, which is why people panel line kits, so flatter coats make the model seem more like the actual size it would be. Gloss doesn't really matter for scale because like a chrome finish it doesn't have any particles that diffuse light which scale differently.

because there are not as many individual reflections as there would be on an object of larger size

also the variation in surface texture is not the same in small scale, the variations are what make something look the size it is. There are compromises of all kinds with models, and flat coating gives the appearance of size to something that should be 100x larger

What finish is this? probably closer to semigloss in real life yeah, but when you are farther it looks flatter because of light diffusion. Each "panel" for example has several FEET of surface for microscopic surface inconsistencies to diffuse light. There's no paint flatting agent fine enough to do the same thing in for a small scale. That's why the finishes that are maxed one way or the other, either full gloss or full flat, are the best at replicating the look of a similar subject in real life.

Most people who make nice gundam models choose one of these two finishes because it produces the best results.

id say its one of the more underrated HGs out there. loads of weapons, loads of wacky configurations and posing options, stands for Incom/funnel arms, MG-sized beam sabers (the cheapest way for MG The-O owners to get more yellow beams), and its freaking huge.

biggest downside is all the stickers, besides the sleeves the brown/black stripes on the two versions are pretty nicely replicated with the included stickers, but you really should paint all the thrusters properly.
