***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Eyy man, that's the same airbrush I have. It's pretty good. Never understood what that key thing was used for though..
>>
/gunpla/ I gots a question, if'n you can answer it?

It's mostly subjective, but still: Are seam lines actually ugly/things-to-be-cemented-away?

Does anyone have any pictures of any gunpla that have been painted, lined/nub-sanded, or otherwise "finished" and just left at that without the seams covered up?

I'm not sure if it looks shitty or not, or if it's just tradition due to that being what competition-level gunlpa builders do and have just continued ever since?

Really, I just don't want to cover the seams before I paint since it's a complete ass in terms of time for me, but if it looks like shit, I might as well.
>>
>>14010395
You post this picture in every fucking thread, at least different kits ffs.
>>
>>14010822
It looks shitty on most parts, especially limbs. It's a big obvious line down the middle of the part through the detail and makes it look like a cheap toy no matter how nicely you paint around it.

>>
>>14010838
Got any pics?

Well, truth is I've never seen a picture of particularly a "lined but un-seam-welded" gunpla (or at least didn't realize it).

I for one don't mind it in theory in the sense that I always thought of gunpla as just big real robots have "must have seams in the armor SOMEWHERE or else how would they attach the armor?".
However that's fully because I've never noticibly seen an otherwise finished but un-seam-welded one and never knew if it really did look like shit or if it was purely subjective.

Seamlines looks really out of place when you aim to for realistic effect paint(shading, weathering, etc) because the line that seperates the part should be the panel lines, not the seamlines.. If you just want to have a simple repaint or go glossy like a toy then sure, it won't stand out as much.
To fix seams you just need to cover the line with plastic cement and sand it down a bit, the covering for paintin is the hard part, but that depends on the kit.
Here's a pic i found that has painted seam line.
>>

>>
>>14010852
Part of the point of scale modeling is to give it the appearance that it's a scaled down version of something bigger. A big obvious seam, especially in an area where there isn't a panel on the source material, breaks that illusion. How cheap or not it was to begin with is irrelevant in this hobby and final appearance at the end is what matters.

There are 5 non-P-Bandai's out right now in HG 1/144:
- Graze (Normal Type/Commander type)
- Graze Kai/Custom
- McGillis' Schwalbe Graze
- Ryusei-go (Kai/Custom II)
- Carta's Graze Ritter.
The 6th, the Graze Ein, should come out in a few weeks.
Only two are in 1/100 scale as far as I know, the Graze and the Schwalbe Graze.

There are two P-Bandai exclusives so far, the Gaelio's Schwalbe Graze and the Graze Ares. Both HG 1/144

Your comment didn't let us know what model you are starting with. How else can we call your taste shit even if secretly we like the suit? Please read the guide up top before starting if you haven't yet, and don't be afraid to ask about something before attempting. Happy building.
>>
>>14010975
Ah, I'm building the HG Ez-8. I'll probably read through the guide again for good measure, but I guess I just took for granted how small the parts were and how not perfect my coordination is at times, but I guess that's all practice?
>>
>>14010991
Yep, you'll get used to the scale. Horrible cool first suit. Did you get sandpaper? I find that an easy way to denub is cutting away from the part (so that way there's less stress on the plastic) and from there you cut with the nippers/exact-o/sand as needed.

Tell that to my wallet. The rest is spot on, though: it's why painting, even if it's just a matte coat and panel lining, is so important.

And while vehicles obviously have seams or other indications of how armor/chassis is put together, scale modeling it's done at such *scale* that said indications are just smudges and panel lines.

Yeah, I have nippers and sand paper/files. My exact-o is dull, so I haven't even tried using it, though I have one coming in the mail.
I've been cutting away from the part, leaving plenty of sprue, and sanding down, but I'll occasionally still get stressed plastic. I've honestly put building on hold until I can try out using a knife to see how I fare with that.

Question about washing mold release off parts:

I notice some people wash them while they're on the sprues, and I notice some other people start washing them when they're partially assembled prior to priming. I can see one of the downsides of the latter is water being trapped in some crevice you don't notice.

Which one is more effective?

This is one of the rare kits I actually don't regret paying an arm and a leg for. It's just so damn pretty even if it is mainly a recolor with some new extend-o arms. A shame it didn't come with the wings like the Glory of Losers version, but including stands for the arms is a nice compensation.

That's one hell of a custom by the way. Everything about it makes it look like a natural progression of the Altron. I would nope the fuck out if I ever had to face this thing in battle.

That's because it's not really meant to be particularly tanky, outside the usual lead gundam sense of being impervious to Zakus. It mostly just avoids getting hit.

Not really seeing the feminine, though, unless you're looking at the waist. But then, I don't really get why people call Exia feminine either.

If you like the show, support it by buying some kits.
If you don't like the show but like the suits, pick them up at a discount.
If you don't like the suits, what's it matter?

So, those P-Bandai MGs that cost over 90 dollars to begin with are basically free shipping? Interesting.

There's a part of me that really wants a Crossbone X-2.

Yeah it looks great when you find a domestic seller who carries P-Bandai exclusives but then you realize that the majority of those are out of stock.

Nah, if I want some crazy-expensive plastic, I'll be buying a PG instead. Much more impressive and it should keep me busy for a longer period of time.

So with Gundam Unicorn RE:0096 people are thinking the next RG will come from this anime, but honestly what are the chances? I would like a RG Sinanju myself but knowing how Bandai works they'll probably push out the unicorn if at all
>>
>>14012979
>RG Unicorn
Okay, so, let's just take a moment to reflect on how impossible that engineering would be.

While I too would like an RG Sinanju, the impossibility of an RG Unicorn (unless Bandai has gone full-retard and is willing to market literal grenades) suggests that the RG has to be something not-Unicorn. Seeing as we have nothing else really 00 related that makes sense, the only AU suit I could imagine getting would be an Epyon. Which, to be honest, would be pretty cool. That said, I would love a return to UC because a new Gelgoog would be pretty cool, not to mention an Alex to serve as an upgraded RG RX-78-2.
>>
>>14012979
>RG Unicorn

It's gonna crumble into a trillion pieces if u so much as poke it isn't it. (Though if they somehow make it work, I'll be impressed.)
>>
>>14012997
Of course, no one ever said a RG Unicorn would have to transform. It's a given that the average RG costs more than most HGs, but you can still buy two of them for what a modern MG costs.

Produce a RG Unicorn and a RG Destroy and bam, you just laid the groundwork for two dozen variants. Add a 're-formatted Unicorn TV show to the mix and watch the $ flow.

This IS Bandai after all

Yeah, that's not going to happen.

That said, on second thought, I'd love an RG Byarlant.
>>
>>14012979
No. RG Epyon first
>>
>>14013026
And yet, we all know that after the disaster that was the RG Zeta, we will never again see a RG with a transformation as complicated, if not more complicated that that.

If you think that Bandai wouldn't compromise the 'real thing' bottom line of the RG series to milk as much money as they can from Unicorn variants, you haven't been in this hobby long enough. As long as it has two-tone white and outstanding surface detail, it'll sell, just like all the rest.

Take a clear plastic sheet (like the ones students use for report binding) and cut out a few small rectangles.
Tape them together and slot them under the torso part, right beside the waist balljoint.
They'll prevent the sideways tilt, while not being visible to observers.

Just got a Graze Kai and a weapon set for a little under $26 at a local hobby store. Did I do good?
>>
>>14013224
Not too bad.

The weapon sets are selling for a kinda ridiculous ~9 dollars on Amazon, and Graze Kai is ~14 USD. A few dollars to support a local business and get it immediately is a fair trade.

>>
>>14013418
>which should I get, RG Wing EW or RG Zeta?
Not really comparable.

So, I don't own any RG Wings, but I own two Zetas. My recommendation is to get two and get an action base for both. At the 1/144 scale, multiple transformations are a really bad idea, so just pick one and stick with it.

The Wing should be the easier build between the two. The Zeta doesn't tolerate people trying to cut corners or being lazy in general. It's pretty delicate.

Worked some more on the cockpit and started on the chest piece too. I'm trying to make that similar to the custom version but it still needs some sanding and putty work. The idea behind what I'm working towards with this build is a sort of a second graze salvaged by tekkadan. I'm trying to make it similar to the first but not identical.

As for the cockpit, the basic shape is there now. I'll add the details like controls and headrest in tomorrow.

I like putting together models, but I hate using paint at all. Are there any Gundam kits that don't require any painting? I read the guide, but from what I can tell all the kits require at least some sort of accenting with paint to make them look good.

RG Exia, RG Wing EW, or a random IBO kit? Was thinking of getting the Grimgerd or the Kimaris.I don't feel like being an adult so help me choose /m/
>>
>>14014103
You'll get more bang for your buck with RGs, but the IBO kits will be cheaper, so you could get two for the price of an RG probably.
Look up some youtube reviews of the kits you're undecided on and buy whichever one looks best in motion and gets the best review.
>>
Which HG should I build first?
Fenice or X Maoh?

That's just it. When they make an RG it damn well better be able to transform if it does in the show. I doubt they will compromise.

Perfect Pack.

One could say...

I was going to put a youtube link of Beatrice saying "It's Perfecto" but it seems all the videos of just that line got taken down so all I'm left with is a crappy "This is Sparta remix" and a 5 minute loop of the soundbite, which defeats the purpose of what I wanted to post. So accept this gif as compensation. It's not PERFECTO! but it'll do for now
>>
>>14015126
They're pretty much the same kit, the main difference being the backpacks and shields. Since the Perfect Pack reuses the G-Self mold, it comes with the original's shoulders and side skirts as spare parts, and with a stand to help the backheavy thing not fall over. They're also molded in slightly different colors and the Perfect Pack comes with stickers for the shield vents (which the base form lacks), but that means nothing if you want to paint it.

Just get whatever one you think looks the best.
