She's like that because since she was little she doesn't interact that much to normal people, she forced herself to be a soldier, and the man she acknowledges to be her father doesn't accept her. Her family is fucked up in many ways, so her mind got kind of fucked up too. She doesn't know what normal people do that much, and so she's really different from the rest of the girls.
When she met Kanade she started to have a clue what it feels to have someone by her side that's not just an ally to fight together with, but someone who she can ask to with other things too, even trivial things. She started to have a clue what might normal people do, and she started to open up to other people.
When Kanade died, she started to know the pain of losing someone important. Since the only person she can fully trust disintegrated right before her eyes while she was holding that person, it made some damage to her, mentally. Ever since then Tsubasa's mind got more twisted which led her to think that she is a "sword", a weapon, that only exists to fight, because she was called by her "father" a "filthy tool of the Kazanari family", and was made to fight against weird looking aliens that disintegrate people in one touch.
When she met Hibiki, it was like a truck of salt fell into her body filled with deep wounds. Hateful thoughts resided in her mind because that day, when Kanade saw Hibiki it led into a situation which she can never change. Of course she thought she could've saved Kanade that day. If she only was a little faster and stronger that she was before, Kanade could've lived. That girl that was shocked with what was happening around her could've been saved without Kanade dying too. But she thought too that if that girl wasn't there that day, that wouldn't happen. Kanade wouldn't die. She would still be with Kanade up to this day.
This week SmileGang show how much of a baka Nana and Misato is. They tried answering quiz question within 7 second per question, ended up wrong with very close answer for every question.Also in earlier corner we found out that Nana seems totally okay with gay people.
They had drinking party to celebrate Nana 15th Anniversary and ended up talking about the type of person they like. Among them, YuiKaori's manager seems to have hard time coming up with names. Nana thought that maybe this guy is gay, 'it't totally possible that he prefer men'. But when asked which one of YuiKaori he find more attractive he answers immediately. Seems like the guy is just too straight laced. He's has been YuiKaori manager for some time so he knows them quite well. He can't answer question like 'which akb girls you like' because he doesn't know them very well. Mishi-P scold him saying that's not good at all as manager, these question are just silly drinking party game, they don't need serious answer. The guy ended up receive some more scolding from SmileGang writer about how manager have to be well versed in these silly drinking party to survive in industry. Moral of the day, seiyuu's manager job is hard.

Hibiki's various attempts to talk to Tsubasa only irritated her at the start because whenever she looks at Hibiki she only gets reminded that her best mother fucking friend is fucking ashes and her best friend's fucking relic is in that fucking girl who was in that place that day. It made her so mad and confused that she almost killed Hibiki. But then after several attempts, Tsubasa learned how to accept and move on with her loss. When she committed suicide and failed, she realized that there must be some reason why she wasn't allowed to catch up to Kanade in after life. There must be a reason why she must continue to live in a world without Kanade. Therefore she tried to learn what Kanade saw in the world that's worth protecting. Hibiki and Miku helped Tsubasa see that. And so, that's how Tsubasa learned how to be a little more kind to other people. Her seemingly heartless cold, and silent personality changed and she became cold, somewhat kind, but she's still stuck with the idea that she is a weapon, because that's what was instilled in her mind. That she is a tool. That she only exists to protect and fight on the battlefield.
When she heard that Hibiki could die, she was reminded of the pain of losing someone again. She doesn't want Hibiki to die because she is now one of the people Tsubasa wants to protect. Tsubasa doesn't want Hibiki, who Kanade saved in exchange for her life, to die just because of the relic Kanade left inside her heart. She doesn't want to let Kanade's efforts go in vain. But then she doesn't know how to say to Hibiki that she shouldn't fight because she might die the next time she dons her gear. She can't just say "Stop fighting, you'll fucking die.", but she doesn't know what to say. The words she said to Hibiki seems to be cold, but if you read more into it you can see that she tried to be considerate, although it was taken in the way like she was a bitch.

When Chris "betrayed" the team, she thought that it was weird because if Chris really wanted to kill her she could've easily done it right there anyway. But she didn't so she thought that she might be planning something. They're not really close to each other but since Chris is part of their team, and Tsubasa is the veteran in the group, maybe she thought that Chris is one of her responsibilities. She saved Chris, even though they tried to kill each other once, and Chris even stomped Tsubasa on the head before, but Tsubasa didn't give a shit because that is in the past, Chris is now their ally and someone she needs to protect. There you can see that Tsubasa really learned how to move on with some things. If she hasn't learned how to move on in that point she might just let Chris die there because she almost killed her before.
When Tsubasa came back to the house where she once belonged, she tried to talk to her "father". She tried to know if he has accepted her now. But since both of them are fucking bad at words, they can't understand each other's feelings. If Maria wasn't there to clear up shit, Tsubasa will never get what her father was aiming for. In that event, she somehow learned to accept herself. That she is not just a tool. She is a human, that gets hurt, wounded, cries, and gets tired. Not like a sword, which is just used to cut whatever the user wants to. She learned to be "herself", to be "Tsubasa". And so she went overseas to fulfill her own dreams that she has forgotten once. Having dreams is one of the many things that makes a human a "human", and so she went on a journey that is related to "dreams".
Now, Tsubasa is filled with hopes. She has gotten over Kanade's death, but its not as if she has completely forgotten about her. She still holds the memories she shared with Kanade in her heart. She uses those memories to motivate herself to live, and she uses the presence of her friends today to be Kazanari Tsubasa.
