So, what are the military capabilities of the respective belligerents.

Armenian Ministry of defense reports on destruction of 3 Azerbaijani tanks, 2 drones & 2 helicopters so far today.

The clashes are going on so I will try to dump new info as soon as it gets confirmed.
>>

Azerbaijans MoD just stated that it incurred no losses of helicopters whatsoever.

Idk I have an Armenian because everything and anything is better than kebabs.
>>
>>29465479
Well yeah.. The only difference now is the scale..

Till this year there was no engagement of tanks and heavy arty. Also the clashes were localized, however now both sides are investing into conflict much more, also the clashes are going on occupying the whole length of the front.. So we may see even more escalation unless Obama and Putin step in and slap the shit out of both sides.
>>

yea sorry dumb question, should have checked the usuals first

so Azerbaijanis are kebabs... what does that make the Armenians?

I have no clue what im talking about here but would Armenia be the result of Russian anxiety about turkey? kinda how north Korea still exists due to Chinas fears of a pro NATO nation on its border?
i know that they are drastically different examples time wise but im just trying to wrap my head around the politics in the regions.

They were the worlds first christian state. Used to side with the Romans during Byzantine-Sassanid wars. It is quite ancient nation and used to have some small form of "success" at some points. Turks rekt them at the end of 1920 by going all gasoven on them. Google Armenian massacre.
>>
>>29465539
There is a HUGE difference between Armenia and NK.

Politically wise Armenia is little different from Russian puppet-state seeing how Ruskies have a military base there. But it is a distinct nation with a distinct language that was there since forever. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylonian_Map_of_the_World
Although it is an oligarchic mess right now Armenia is still considered to be a widely christian populated democracy (like 96% of population are Armenian and christian.)

Azerbaijan is basically a turkish puppet state highly reliant on turkish supplies of Military equipment and expertise. The country is owned by the Aliev family and isn't very differen from a monarchy/dictatorship. The only religion is Islam. The country is sitting on huge reserves of oil and natural gas, so the military budget is bloated to the extreme.

The fuckery started when the USSR collapsed thus giving angry Azeris and Armenians a chance to finally get it on. The war ensued ending in Armenian victory and establishment of NKR. The conflict was frozen since then.

You can read about the war on Wiki, it is surprisingly accurate

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagorno-Karabakh_War
>>
>>29465561
Well if they do, a proxy war right on Russia and Turkey's border could get super interesting. Turkey has a stretch of border they could steamroll into Armenia and Russia has a stretch of border they could steamroll into Azerbaijan. Something tells me though Russia won't get involved directly unless Turkey does.

The Soviet Union back then was in support of Azerbaijin than Armenia. After the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia became more in favor of Armenia. Either way, both countries are former Ex-Soviet Satellite States, and Putin's trying to maintain peaceful relations on both sides. Either way, if Azerbaijin decides to go on the offensive, Putin will have to put Azerbaijin down due to Russia's defense pact with Armenia

He has been advocating for both sides to cool down (Like that'll stop shit), while giving assitance on both sides to "manage" the ground situation and maintaining the status quo. IIRC, the selling of weapons was a direct response to the Armenian government discussing about signing an association agreement for the EU. It didn't took long for the government to change minds and scheduled a unification for Russia's Customs Union afterwards. Meanwhile, Russia is trying to gain influence in both Armenia and Azerbaijin through arms trade on both nations, but specifically to Azerbaijin so they can attempt to remove political influence from Ukraine, Turkey, Israel and the US. If Russia lets Armenia fall, it'll be political suicide, giving the Turks/NATO (Hypothetically if NATO joins) direct access to Russia from the Caucus, while losing influence and military presence there. No Armenia=No buffer state.

CSTO, Russia has a defense agreement with Armenia and has troops in Armenia. Azerbaijan will get fucked by Russia
>>

The Soviet Union and Russia aren't the same, despite the same amount of shady work. Russia doesn't want Azerbaijin to attack Armenia, otherwise they'll lose their influence on Azerbaijin and are forced to fight them due to the defense pact. What Russia wants is to remove Azerbaijin from Turkish and Western influence, and have both countries under their wings. Hence why Russia is trying to promote peace between both nations while megotiating business with Azerbaijin and Armenia.

NATO doesn't apply when Turkroach is on the offensive. They won't do shit. They cried to daddy NATO and got told to get bent when they shot down Russia's plane in Syria.

They do have an assitance treaty with Azerbaijin in case it were under attacked. If Azerbaijin invades Armenia and Russia strikes at their forces, chances are we're going to have a modern Russo-Turkic war.
