Azerbaijan refused to pay arms purchased from Russia. Azeri state wants to do some limited reforms, such as approaching Nato, choosing the West over Russia and few other things. Both angered Russia.

The original name which Azerbaijan derived from is Atropatene which basically means "protected by fire" in old persian/median and was a vassal state to the different empires in the region of Median origin. The corruption of the name stems from the arab conquest/islamification of the region but it still has the same meaning.
