So how fucked is Corona Blossom Indiegogo?
>>
Mangagamer has 3 new partners.
Guess what they are.

It's obviously not kamige so don't say something stupid like Light or Giga or August or Makura.
>>
>>15308796
Whirlpool, ASA Project, Saga Planets.
Or something similar.

After the relative success of Princess Evangile, these seem like possible choices. Of course the only reason why Princess Evangile succeeded as much as it did is because most English readers never played a prototypical moege/storyge mix eroge before, so it seemed fresh to them. Once Mangagamer floods the market with such titles, sales will be much lower.
>>
>>15308696
It's a flexible funding project made to get some extra income in addition to what they get through their Japanese+Steam releases, so not at all.
>>
>>15308833
Ah shit, I missed that. So yeah, then it's just some extra money to get from suckers faster.
>>
>Homeless Joshi Gakusei - Released
Is this Disney shit or real deal? Don't want to waste my time with any disney shit.

Great
>>
>>15308819
sagaplanets is under visualarts.................................
so they'll likely release shit themselves but the west is so obsessed with key because of muh feels so only key is going to come out for a while.
>>
japanese is so easy to learn and readwhat the fuck.
why is everybody saying its so hard?
you guys lied
>>
>>15308895
Don't forget that he warned people not to bitch about it reading badly because that was a translation choice.
>>
>>15308796
1. ChuableSoft's SukiSuki.
2. August's Eustia.
3. Leaf's White Album 2.
>>
>>15309095
>2. August's Eustia.

I wonder how would people react to it. Because before I read it in Japanese, I saw some of the Western reviews and they crazily overhype it.

Don't get me wrong, I liked a lot about it, but at the same time it's flawed to the very core. For example the route structure ultimately leads to unsatisfying endings for pretty much every heroine, maybe except for Licia and debatably Eustia.

And English readers were likely memed by those English reviews and Reddit posts even more than me, so they backlash could be stronger.
>>
>>15304573
Because the MangaGamer version came with both. It's good for me since it'll help me learn Japanese (in 10 years).

>>15304778
Thank you. The problem was actually the save folder. The files became screwed up somehow. The MangaGamer uninstaller left the folder intact so the error kept happening even if you reinstalled Fata. Who do I blame for this oversight? Doddler?
>>
>>15308796
>>15308819
I reckon Softhouse Chara is plausible.
>>
http://blog.fuwanovel.net/2016/05/interview-with-sekai-project/

Decay: An 18+ release of Maitetsu is something there seems to be a lot of demand for, is that something you’d be interested in providing?

Audi: Well there certainly is a loud crowd of people, don’t know about their numbers but I hear their voices even in my sleep. Again, it’s something we have to look into and figure out because the subject matter is not just controversial but can be detrimental to many of our partners. We work very closely with companies like Sony and such, and their cool with us working the Denpa 18+ stuff separate from them, but one false move and suddenly the VN market is gonna hurt from it. It’s one of those situations where we have to pick our battles and figure out the best course of action.

>A lone girl, wearing a tattered school uniform, lives on a dry river bed. She can't go to school, has no house, not even a tent... just a helpless, lonely girl. She searches garbage cans for food to survive every day. And whenever she is found by vagrants or delinquents, she becomes their plaything. Gang-raped, disgraced, forced to drink semen, dirtied, abused, scorned...
This is a visual poem about her everyday life.

Clearly its Disney as all heck.

I still remember this http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=13372053120A68660100&page=8
>>
>>15308796
After the recent MG releases my expectations are pretty low; I can see more nukiges and cheap doujins.
>>
>>15309105
Was going just for Eustia and never bothered with others, so the ultimate ending was very sweet and well-rounded for me. Some cgs were pretty much doodled, but that's all.
>>
>>15309372
Is this your first experience with MangaGamer's announcements? It's always cheap doujins and nukiges for every minor con in the first half of the year and the big stuff for AX and Otacon.

Personally expecting something from minori and Clock-Up in addition to the three, with the guests and all.
>>
>>15309105
>August

Holy shit. Just realized that to this day there still has not been 1 finished August release.
The Yoake, Fortune Arterial, Eustia, and Daitoshokan translations all died out.
>>
Mangagamer release bokuten will be huge succss, people always love dem feels. So utsuges will be popular again.
>>
>>15309416
Isn't the one working on Yoake a MangaGamer staff now? Or is that some other really long and dead translation?
>>
>>15309433
If you are talking about Edgar he got married and fucked off to god knows where
>>
>>15309406
It's not but I can't see anything interesting for this year except maybe DC3 and most likely the new announcements for AX (except short nukiges) will be released in 2017.
>>
>>15309435

What qualifies as "interesting" to you?
>>
>>15309416
The Daitoshokan one was bad. Even the parts they supposedly edited.
>>
>>15309438
Games like Kara no Shoujo, EF, Eden, Suika, Himawari... Something with story, romance, mystery, comedy and some action.
Euphoria was a bit to extreme for my and FM (besides the awful like3D art) wasn't my cup of tea.
>>
>>15308587
I give you credit for not using Funbags, made it still sound like a good game nearing finish.

>>15308819
I think moege is just natural to sell. 99% of the manga out there is moege, and if you want to capture that crowd of readers to VNs all you need is moege games. What is weird is that they license so few of the obviously most popular genre.

>>15309344
Are Sekai still dumber than JAST and can't figure out the concept of unofficial patches? Oh wait, it is Sekai, they want to sell the patch and it would be money that upset their partners AND customers, and suddenly they care.
>>
>>15309449

Not sure why you think this year looks so dire then. Himawari should be out this year. Didn't like Gahkthun?

No, I played half of it and wasn't any good, one of the worst Liar-Soft tittles.
I know that Himawary and DC3 "maybe" will be released this year, but still this a dire list.
>>
>>15309477
Supipara, Bokuten? They also look poised to come out this year as well.

W Happiness looks more likely to be next year.
>>
>>15309477

Sorry, I was writing with swiftkey in automode...
>>
>>15309493
Bokuten; it's a utsuge -> out of my list.
Supipara: it's a paid demo -> doesn't seems interesting.
W Happiness: I doubt that it will be released this year -> the main game wasn't that great but maybe I'll purchase it for the Ruriko route.
>>
>>15309507
>utsuge
Picked up
>>
>>15309477

DC3 will be out this year unless something horrible happens to Doddler or Kouryuu dies before finishing the last 5%.

The way things are going we should have all the older stuff and all or nearly all the 2015 stuff done this year (well, at least the first chapters of the multi-part releases), and some of the 2016 announcements too. Er, that's not some kind of official promise or anything, but if you've been keeping up with progress updates and stuff it should be pretty obvious.
>>
>>15309548
Does that mean that MangaGamer's monthly release schedule will finally come to an end, or do you guys still have enough things in the pipeline to keep that going?
>>
>>15309567

Not sure what you mean. We've been releasing more than one game nearly every month for the past half year or so.
>>
>>15309095
>>15309105
Its likely not august. Moogy and makoto during their time on jast have tried to contact august before for a license but got straight out denied since they didn't have any interest in the west.

Chuablesoft is 100% at this point by someone, if not MG since one of the workers is a guest at AX guaranteed but the hints have pointed to MG.

WA2 is also unlikely because Aquaplus, not Leaf have released TTT before without going through MG.
>>
>>15309372
>>15309406
I'm fine with cheap doujins as long as they have the quality of Fata Morgana desu
>>
>>15309578
> Moogy and makoto during their time on jast have tried to contact august before for a license but got straight out denied since they didn't have any interest in the west.
That was before big kickstarters and nekopara.
>>
>>15308796
1. Sprite.
2. Sumikko Soft.
3. Pulltop.
>>
>>15309590
While Eustia was hyped enough to be an actual success on KS even nowadays, I don't think August needs it.
>>
>>15309629
They should go after Eushully. They'll desperately need cash soon

Can confirm. Arunaru himself said something about the title he's translating using the word love a lot so it makes perfect sense.

>https://vndb.org/v7769 one of haro's projects
Haro some weeks ago said something about being excited to translate a sex scene in a long time so I'm unsure about that. That is, unless she was talking about other VN like a short nukige between large projects.

>https://vndb.org/v16337 I originally thought conjueror would be doing it but now I'm not so sure
Interesting. What makes you think that?
>>
>>15309372
>After the recent MG releases my expectations are pretty low; I can see more nukiges and cheap doujins.
MG announcements on AX and Otakon are on a completely different level than other cons so don't use MG announcements so far in this year as representative of what they'll announce.

But be free to have very low expectations. That way you'll be happier with what MG announces.
>>
>>15309896
>you'll be happier with what MG announces
He will make another rant that MG licenses no-name loliges while Sekai gets some BEST STUFF EVER like Chrono Clock.
>>
>>15309908
>BEST STUFF EVER like Chrono Clock

:-)
>>
>>15309896
To be fair, last year annoncments at AX and Otakon weren't precisely spectacular; all ages games, chuni and yuri.
>>
>>15309877

Haro's got two projects.
http://progress.19.04se.cc/
My money would be on the other one being hamashima related

>Interesting. What makes you think that?

The title itself? Their hints
>a moderate preference for HD graphics (one of our unannounced projects might particularly enticing to this crowd, no joke)

Why it'd be conjueror? It just seems like his type of game, and he's read it. But given how much he's been complaining as of late, I'm starting to doubt it a bit.
>>
>>15309944
>weren't precisely spectacular
>MG and Alicesoft
But yeah, it shoulded be Rance instead of Haruka.
>>
>>15309877
Maybe MG's breaking into the ero-Otomege market.
>>
>>15309931
I'm pretty worried about how SP will handle the translation and the honorific. Rood Double was pretty bad with all this Mr, Mrs, Bro, etc..
>>
>>15309908

I think we've got a pretty good spread for AX and Ota, but someone will always complain if every single announcement isn't a game they personally want (there are other people out there, you know!).
>>
>>15309980
If I bomb Frontwing will it make them hurry the fuck up with Himawari
>>
>>15310045
I can safely say no it won't.
>>
>>15310045

I imagine that would probably have a detrimental effect on release speed.
>>
>>15309967
I believe it's fair to say that because it was Haruka instead of Rance, and because it killed the nearly complete Rance VI project, that announcement didn't exactly go over well last year, especially to the crowd who would be most interested in Alicesoft. The rest of their announcements were Yuri (though Kindred Spirits was a rather good pick up), good titles with somewhat limited appeal (Propeller titles, Himawari), or expected pickups. I thought their AX/Otakon lineup was strong enough, but one can certainty see how people might have been disappointed by their announcements last year, especially for people who saw Haruka as a negative.
>>
>>15310058
>>15310064
That's a shame.
>>
You forgot about Bishoujo Mangekyou, mate.
>>
>>15308796
It just be 2 new partners, since both Propeller games were counted as "New Partner" last year.
>>

>>
>>15310090
>This is list for JP->EN translations done by humans
And CN->EN translations.
>>
>>15309344
Basically, don't hold your breath. They kept making excuses even in the answer on why it'd be a bad idea to do it. And the "we have to pick our battles" line just makes it sound like they won't bother.
>>
>>15309428
It tanked in Japan, so that will keep alot of people away from it.
>>
>>15310123
Like the English market or Steam has any awareness of that.
>>
>>15309698
I doubt they got a Spray title since that's Visual Arts territory.
>>
>>15309949
If it ends up being Iwaihime, don't be disappointed.
>>
>>15310065
I think the people complaining the most about last year's announcements are the ones that wanted ero, and thought most of the announcements were a let down in that regard.
>>
>>15310148
The English market outside of Steam, knows that the game basically killed OVERDRIVE, so they don't expect it to be good. It's also alot different than OVERDRIVE's other titles, so it might not even appeal to the usual OVERDRIVE fans.
>>
>>15310196
Okay, but it's still a story title and even with ero those don't sell well.
>>
>>15310152

Given that they haven't shown any interest in putting out BL, I don't think it's too farfetched that they'd let another company do it. Though I wouldn't be surprised if, after it possibly ends up a success, they suddenly start to take in interest themselves.
>>
>>15310210
Part of the appeal of BL titles, or so I've heard, is the ero, so an all-ages only title doesn't seem likely. It would also most likely be a very expensive license, given that it's all ages and a well-known series.
>>
>>15310226
>or so I've heard, is the ero

maybe for people with taste, most of the english audience is straight up underage though

I'd be so fucking hyped if they partnered with Saga Planets. They have so many good moege/plotge hybrids.

Hatsuyuki Sakura when?
>>
>>15310240
Not Hanasaki Cuck Spring?
>>
>>15310234
Didn't stop them from playing No, Thank You. Though it does raise the question of how many of the underage fans just pirated it, because they don't have credit cards to purchase it with, or the money to do so anyway. It is possible they bought it with paypal, because even kids have those nowadays, but I kind of doubt that.
>>
On average, how many copies does a VN have to sell to break even? I mean in Japan, not western localizations.
>>
>>15310288
Depends on the budget. Think thousands, since the industry follows the same trends as the anime industry in that everything is ridiculously expensive. Low volume high price.

Hundreds for doujin work at a far cheaper pricepoint like Seacats/Higurashi, just to pay for expenses rendered by one or two people over that period..

Please stay on /vg/
>>
>>15310929
People like euphoria because it has a decent story for a nukige and people see it as Saw with ero. Underrepresented fetishes can also be really popular because people interested are basically starved for content.
>>
I'm feeling conflicted, because I'm not into guro, yet Maggot Baits is very intriguing to me.

It has a guro censor mode and most of the guro scenes are pretty skippable anyway.

tea time is the worst part of pm5. its a great way to get rid of stress, but drinking tea over and over each weekend really ruins the experiance.
I know that due to technical difficulties and general disorder the project is stuck. I tried using google translate on the scripts myself, but it's more than just translation- it's about char space, it's about connection between stats and certain choices (like zodiac sign) and actions that are ingrained in the game code and not just script.
I think that I understand why pm5 got dropped, and im happy that pm6 (aka the evangelion princess maker) is translated but i want pm4 or 3 to see english iteration...

It's not 'editing' or 're-translation'. It's a brand new script, written by people entirely unrelated to the original Ever17. There is no choice but to translate it from scratch if you want it in English.

I should probably stop with the off topic already though.

/vg/ is practically /b/. There's a million of stable threads so your thread will be lost and will fall off. Threads on /vg/ fall off really really quickly, I think an hour without bump means death. The only thing you can get on /vg/ is a circlejerk.

>>
>>15321013
Trust me, I've been there before. I posted in /vn/ for a few months a couple years back. Several independent topics which only last a few minutes to hours bunched together in one thread is very bad.
>>
>>15321025
than the problem is the broadness of the topic. there are hundreds of vns, if you want to discuss specifics ones you should have a thread just for that. on /jp/ is a safe bet, but depending on the game you might be able to shoehorn it into other boards, like /u/, /mu/ or even /his/.
>>
>>15320972
>New mods delete them on sight.
Figures. Last time I was on /a/ I got hit with a ban for posting that lucky star x deer gif. It's lewd, yes, but there isn't any nudity in it. And to me that gif and the pasta response is a part, or at least was, a part of /a/ history and culture. So it's not too surprising for things to have gotten worse, at leas in my point of view.
>>
>>15321047
if you post nsfw image in a sfw board you get banned, weather or not there are actual nipples involved. nudity isn't all there is to the adult world.
>>
Speaking of JAST they seem to be really understaffed http://discuss.jastusa.com/discussion/254320/backlog-titles#latest
>>
>>15320958
>What i like about it are the people behind it
I didn't say that and I didn't even mean that. The combination of the writer, illustrator and the platform makes the game unique regardless of what I like about it. It's not even that obscure of a series (an anime adaptation, drama CDs and LN exist) yet it will never get translated. Moreover, even way more well-known MO series is not translated at all, while Tokimemo barely is. Princess Maker doesn't look that bad in comparison to them.
Anyway, what I'm saying is that there's no point in complaining, because there's always someone somewhere who's in a worse situation.
>>
>>15321107
>people in worse situations
sure there are. so instead of saying 'you think pm not getting translated is bad? mo should totally get english!' you could have said 'yeah man, i feel ya' or something, and post your own lementations in a different post
but its fun being misrable because self pity does wonders for the morals. your ilustrator and illustrator got animes and games in english aplenty. pm got pm2 and the anime 'petite princess yucie'. thats really not alot.
>>
>>15321061
Not much difference between the Lucky Star gif and this SYD cap. But the point I was making was that the moderation would lean in differing ways on many grey issues. Obvious NSFW on a blue board is an obvious banhammer. But to use your own words, "nudity isn't all there is to the adult world." becomes a grey area and the resulting disciplinary response, if any, ends up coming down to whatever janny or mod is looking at it. I've even screen capped moderator posts on /a/ concerning the matter of VNs. The biggest problem I had overall was more that it seemed, from my perspective, that moderation was starting to lean more towards a "ban first, ask questions never" mentality.

Although I do miss the days of morning loli manga/doujin dumps.
>>
>>15321122
I would summarize that as "Be glad that you got that much because others deserving better didn't" though. Maybe it's not much of a compassion, but it isn't a self pity for sure.
>>
>>15321154
i don't get how vns fit into /a/ without an anime adaptation.
>>
>>15321160
I'm happy; i'm still compalining because bad sitation is still bad even if others have it worse.

If they had, have, or are confirmed for having one, it's supposed to be ok. Those that don't fall specifically into that criteria would presumably go here. But there's just as much argument for them to have a limited presence in /v/, since it's still technically a game, some with more traditional gaming elements than others. And there's just as much an argument for them having a limited presence on /a/ since it's not exactly a terrible leap of logic. Anime, manga, light novels, and visual novels, all are Japanese narratives that make use of Japanese art styles. The largest difference being the medium and I guess you could say a limited "choose your own adventure" type or progression.

So again it ends up falling to the moderator or janitor in questions views on the matter.

>>
>>15321313
There's no "universal PS2 script extractor" but there's a good chance that unpacked/decrypted/compiled script can be found in the memory dump of the emulator. Save state in PCSX2, find the savestate file and extract it with 7-Zip. The biggest (32MB) extracted part will contain the text line currently shown in a VN's message box at the very least and the whole script of the scene if you're lucky.
>>
>>15321350
I see, thanks for the info.
>>
>>15321405
>biggest (32MB) extracted part
eeMemory.bin

I recommend 010 Editor for checking the memory dump; it supports Shift-JIS Japanese text encoding out of the box, the feature many other hex editors lack.
ArtMoney can be used as a proxy for hooking the text from a PS2 game, if you can find the memory address where the current text string is stored. Monitor that address in ArtMoney and then hook its window (not the emulator's) with AGTH or what have you.

>>
>>15325221
dovac is actually more on the level than this group. He's never stolen translations before.

People see VN translations as easy money, so many people looking to make big bux quick are trying to get in on it. Of course, kickstarters are a matter of trust, so I doubt this group could succeed unless their goal is extremely low. And Steam doesn't mean guaranteed thousands of sales anymore either.

Have anyone involved given any indication of how well that new store front is doing? Paying for virtual currency will always be stupid and they still have some payment processor issues, but if the Japanese companies are going to regularly self publish their titles, having another 18+ storefront is a good thing to help avoid Steam only releases.
>>
>>15325397
Dunno how well its doing, but pricing is back to non-discounted, so its 45$ for Princess Evangile and Dengeki Stryker, while its 44.95$ on MG (+ ability to pay exact sum instead 50$). I fail to understand why would anyone use nutaku store to buy anything.
>>
>>15325739
The thing they have going for them is large visibility to the sort of idiot willing to shell out money for virtual currency for "free" to play H-games. If that crowd can be used to help keep 18+ releases coming (along side all ages steam releases) as Japanese companies with no Western storefront enter the market, along with helping Denpasoft, then everyone wins. However it's an open question though how receptive that crowd will be to these VNs though, I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of people were disappointed because they brought Princess Evangile based on the H promo image they are using, and then ended up with something that wasn't a nukige.

They still have terrible PR and stole translations, which they thought they were justified in doing. They also plan to use crowdfunding and have shown to be incompetent.
>>
>>15327204

Why would it possibly take $160,000 to localise a VN? Are they just scamming?
>>
>>15327809

It could be possible. If it's a long game, the loc team is being paid well and there are VA licensing costs it could plausibly get that high (well I'd assume a good third or more of that in a well planned campaign would be going to rewards, shipping, KS costs, etc).

But I don't really buy it with these guys.
>>
>>15327809
The Muv Luv team has been quite open with what they need, and they still needed $250k. Granted they also had a ton of expensive physical products, but still. The Libra team has also been quite open about their funding and they had above a 6 figure goal even after they lowered it. If you believe Dovac, the Clannad Kickstarter itself didn't exactly make much either once the costs for all the physical products was factored in (though Steam would have far made up for any shortcomings)

I am assuming the Japan Content's Kickstarter, being by a group looking for quick cash, probably had a goal a good deal higher then their projected costs. Though at the same time, looking at the incompetence of the team involved, they probably underestimated the projected costs that would have been involved in the event they were successfully funded.
>>
>>15327944
I think they mentioned something about voice licensing issues, so maybe E2gaming is planning to kickstart the game without voices to lower their costs.
>>
>>15327944

Well you also have to remember that in addition to the actual costs, the developers took a huge cut of SP's kickstarters.
>>
Seems like SP is going to give out a demosaiced Sacrament of the zodiac. I hope it means more effort put into mosaic free games in the future.

Ozmafia devs want the western players feedback on the game. Remember to tell them you want proper consent and a female protagonist that's not just an airhead there to be saved. You could also ask for a dominatrix heroine who runs a brothel, either way's fine.

He'll see you as a frigid bitch and you won't be able to hang out with him and his group, and/or he might come to dislike you, meaning it's that much harder to win his heart. Cooperate too much? Have to wonder how many more Liarsoft titles we will get through them. Kindred Spirits obviously was a bit hit in the West but they don't really have another potential hit like that. Gahkthun probably did decent enough that we can probably get another title or two, especially since other titles should be able to go onto Steam uncut as well, but it is hard to see the sales of any of them doing great.

>>

>That's really really sad. Is that E3gaming?

Doubt it, as they seem to have the authority to have stuff announced, and they want to be a localization company themselves, rather than helping someone else self publish. This is probably a Japanese effort to self publish and hired people within Japan, like the Debonosu Works releases, but one half decent person got involved and noticed they had shit and were running behind schedule, and are now trying to salvage something before the contract deadline.
>>
>>15335571
We've seen the final product of low price Japanese translation companies before, take the early MG releases, or I'd assume Kagura Douchuuki. The Japanese company in this case hired one, and got shit as you would expect. The Japanese companies though need to get burned once before they figure out that the quality of those efforts suck badly enough they will hinder sales in the Western market.

Probably Visual Arts or Frontwing.

Come to think of it, Rewrite has precisely 7 routes - Kotori, Lucia, Shizuru, Chihaya, Akane, Terra, and Moon. This is also Visual Arts' first foray into translations, so they have no connections at all in that area, so, they just went with a random local translation company that was sufficiently cheap. Expect quality to be worse than Ixrec's translation.

Also, remember that not many notable VNs have a full 7 story branches without being a nukige. The deadline also makes sense, since Anime Expo is in exactly a month and they probably want to have it within a month or two of release so the hype doesn't die off. That, or they plan to announce it at Otakon and release it within weeks post-announcement while the hype is still riding high, and the additional time is for bugchecking and any issues.

It's the only VN and company that makes any degree of sense. We all know that shit will sell as long as it has English text though - a damn shame.
>>
>>15335686
It's not Rewrite, they made it clear it is an 18+ title
>>
/jp/ should form a VN localization consulting company that charges minimal fees to review the plans of Japanese in-house localization efforts and ensure that they're not shit.

18+ title
Long
A company that either hasn't worked with the English market before, or at the very least hasn't worked closely enough to figure out the potential pitfalls.
7 or more routes (depends on if 7 was complete, or just what the TL company got through)
Appears they have no problems releasing 18+ content, outside of making sure they don't run into legal issues.
They also feel it has potential to do well in the English market, but that statement may need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Probably not too many titles that it could be.
>>
>>15335479

I'd laugh, then cry if it's Oretsuba because Navel thought they could get a better deal with someone else making big promises.

It's the logical outcome of a new startup localization company promising big things (probably high percent of sales and a tight deadline) to secure a big title, then hiring a Japanese based translation company that works by throwing a ton of non-native speakers at the script, and are now desperately trying to get out of the hole they dug themselves.

>>
>>15336273
2 months (which it sounds like) for a translation of any size with any amount of people is an impossible feat.

Generally speaking, you only want 1-2 translators for any work. You don't see more than 2 for books, for instance, no matter the length for consistency of language, quality, and flow.

Having 14 people working on one game is just going to make a huge mess, even IF they all somehow have impeccable English and Japanese.

Thank god MG has the sense to stick with (usually) 1 translator/project like fanlations.

So now we have seen Japan Contents, E2, and whoever these new people are since Winter. It's nice the Japanese companies noticed the West, but now it's a question of how long it takes for them to understand the Western market, and translating in general, isn't trivial, as all of these probably made great "offers", but none of these efforts look like they are going to take off.
>>
>>15336535
E2 is Japan Content though? Also, I bet the new company is E2/Japan Content yet again, this time cloaking their name so they don't have their reputation bulldozed yet again before they even had PR.
>>
>>15336531

It's just a bunch of people thinking the western market is a goldmine after seeing dovac and the muvluv kickstarter hit it big. After a few failures the news will get out and people will realize there isn't really money to be made.
>>
>>15336540

Fun conspiracy theory that is, there's no proof it's true. Given japan content copy-pasted their website and e2 had it's own website up before that set up completely differently, there's doubts there too.
>>
>>15336540
E2 existed, in some form, since at least the beginning of the year, so it's probably not Japan Contents.
>>
>>15336541
I think it's more that whenever it's the Japanese company doing the localization, not only is the translation quality dubious because you have no fucking clue who's doing it (unlike most of SPs recent, somewhat successful Kickstarters), but also they have no reputation in terms of translation and little ability to market or put the game on a platform.

Frontwing seems to be using a shitty translation service if that Leisure of Grisaia is any indication. If we got Island or something that was borderline tricky to translate we'd probably have an abomination in our hands. Visual Arts is probably going to be just as bad. SP's inhouse translators are awful but at least they're outsourcing to the good fanlators more and more, even if I hate the whole 'can't have 18+'. schtick and dovac.
>>
>>15336541
There is at least some money to be made though, it's just not as easy as putting out a Kickstarter with no effort.
>>
>>15336554
dovac, pls. Leisure of Grisaia has much better translation than anything you ever made.
>>
The other problem is that, in this market it seems like percentage of revenue is popular, and these fuck ups can net themselves a big license by offering a higher percentage by making ridiculous assumptions about how to cheaply do everything, and then get screwed when the too good to be true projections fall apart. Sekai Project has handled themselves decently enough, especially recently, and Frontwing should be good expectation wise since they have been involved with the Western market, but these other get cash quick efforts are all setting themselves up for failure.
>>
>>15336554
Island is just a matter of time, especially considering the upcoming anime.
>>
>>15336565
I already said that I hated Dovac.

I just don't think Island is going to get the translation it deserves. Yeah, it's probably not kamige-tier like EGS has been saying, but it's definitely quality.

I am guessing this one in house translator is the only person who has any idea at all about dealing with the Western market, and even that is probably not with regards to localization considering that it appears that he didn't see anything wrong with presumably the initial timeline, the company didn't object to hiring a random TL company in Japan despite that never working, has no idea what is allowed in the West considering that they are asking the new translator to be responsible for figuring that out, and the company as a whole ended up in this mess. They even plan to have pretty much any English speaker in the area take the shit the TL company gave them for the first half and make it look like English, saying they would be fine even with having the programmer go through it since he speaks English if they don't find a proofreader here, which doesn't exactly sound encouraging for the quality of the final product. I take it that if that is the standard they are looking for to fix the first half, it's current state must be abysmally horrible to the point where it would destroy any reputation before they got off the ground.

Everything in that post makes it look like they have no idea what they are doing, but their one in house translator (probably hired for social media, etc, rather than direct translating considering they hired a translation company) with a questionable attitude was smart enough to figure out they have a disaster on their hands when he looked at the scripts. With that in mind they are trying to polish the turd they got from the TL company and desperately look for someone to do the second half as quickly as possible. Just because their probable PR person is someone who doesn't like something Dovac did doesn't make them good when everything else about them looks horrible.
>>
>>15337033
Well, of course this situation is going to be shit. I didn't say otherwise but that doesn't mean I want fairly large (well-known?) VN to have a horrible English version. That might be the only version we're going to have. Yes, it's "polishing a turd" as it were but you can also think of it as making lemonade out of lemons by having "something" instead of unreadable English. Is it ideal? Hell, no. Is it acceptable? Perhaps.
>>
>>15337076
> Is it acceptable? Perhaps.
I don't see how intentionally shit quality """translation""" is acceptable just because some monkeys fucked up their stuff.
Customers should not be subjected to bad quality products, no matter what problems producers of said products encountered. If they cannot provide proper quality, they should bankrupt and fuck off from market.
>>
>>15337094
If Winged Cloud and Steam is any indication, people enjoy all sort of low quality offerings.
>>
>>15337076
The company has no idea how the Western market works, this translator included, going to put out shit quality (even if it is a level above the worse they could put out), and appears to have been started as a quick cash grab with quick deadline. So? Almost all Nipponese games have whatever is under the mosaics drawn to look good with a mosaic, rather than actually be seen.

Removing mosaics arguably decreases the quality of the product, and they don't impact my enjoyment of it since it's the same experience the Eleven's got...

Depends what you like. I'd hate to describe it like this, but Demonbane is a lot like TTGL mixed with Lovecraft and a bit of rape. The biggest downside is that the content of the routes is 90% the same, so it gets very boring to get a 100% on the game since the plot changes very little.
Tokyo Babel is way more subdued in its content, and I felt many of the fights were quite boring until the end, while Demonbane continually ramps up the scale. That said, the pure narrative of Babel is better than Demonbane's and at least Tokyo Babel has routes with varied content. If you are going to buy them I'd say Babel just so it gets more sales, but if you aren't then you may as well try both a bit and stick with whichever you like.
Demonbane is definitely worth the read and I really enjoyed it, but reading the other two routes afterwards was boring and I basically had to force myself to do it.

It's doubtful unless the original publisher managed to find the 2 worse companies they could and split the all ages and 18+ rights between the two.

Considering that it's being ported to PC in Japan, an English PC release seems likely (the same is probably true for Chaos;Child). As to Steam, it's still a surprise that there is no Steam version of the original yet, but I have to think it's coming.

There are no routes in ChuSinGura and only 5 chapters.

The Steam version is coming.

trolling is truly a art

E2Gaming wasn't thought to be legit either, but tragically they are.
>>

Even if this is trolling, the scenario is believable enough because we have seen multiple start ups by people with no clue about what they are doing ever since Clannad/Grisaia/Muv Luv, so what's one more. There are surely more horrible start ups which haven't been made public yet that we will have the misfortune to see during the next year.

Just what I've always wanted.

Hey Haro, what's the the title of this VN?
>>
>>15341293
That sounds totally heterosexual and not gay at all.

Just like the Greeks always said - it's not gay if you aren't on the receiving end.

It's a pretty ballsy and unique revenge, I have to admit.

I prefer good old dismemberment. Whole "punish with dick" stuff is too homo.

I can't say it'd be the first thing to enter my mind, but I can see the logic behind it

Lol people mad at Haro because she locked Gahkthun thread on Steam complaining about the price and then saying MG doesn't care about support.

8 hours left, only $149k to go. I imagine this is the last we will hear from Japan Contents, as they'll likely be under a new name for whatever they try next. Wonder what will happen to the ChuSinGura license afterwords though.

Why does the art change slightly in Fata Morgana? It gets better after a while.
>>
>>15343972
It can't be helped. The west doesn't want visual novels as shown by the kickstarter.

Fuck off.

Sharin should beat its total by at least 20 times.

Sekai put up something noting they have announcements for E3. Guessing they'll split any big announcements they have between that, AX, and Otakon.
>>
>>15344821
It doesn't, you just get used to it.

Though Nellie's and Mell's child sprites always look weird.
>>
Baldr Sky's out.
>>
>>15345632
If they announce anything at E3 I'm betting it won't be VNs. Sekai does publish more traditional games like RaidersSphere4th Rabi-Ribi.
