You know how Australian TV has god awful advert marathons in the middle of a show. The BBC don't.
You know how Australian documentaries and dramas are consistently awful and aimed at the lowest common denominator (or imported from the UK). The BBC has a better success rate and quality rate and are required, by government, to produce certain amount of intelectually stimulating programming.
It's not perfect but it's better than any other country I've lived in - and it reins in the other channels. No one is going to watch an aus style advert marathon in the middle of the show when the BBC shows none.
