Vocaroo thread.

Record something, say something in your language, give a text for someone else to read, read some text in another anon's language, etc.

First up is an English pronunciation poem. Give it a try; if you can get it, you're considered native level, I think.

Poem here:

http://www.thepoke.co.uk/2011/12/23/english-pronunciation/

My attempt at it will follow.

I found some German to read.

Exclamation practice.

You have two words: "Gene", and "Smoke". (Gene is a name. Pronounced like Jeans.)

Create as many two-word sentences as you can, using those two words only + Punctuation.

For example: "Gene! Smoke?", "Gene? Smoke.", "Gene ... Smoke!" etc.

Medan min farsa tömde en flaska explorer
Lärde mig lira gitarr och de ackorden

Med secondhandkavajer i garderoben
Och brassband live varenda kväll i trädgården.

Pretty damn gud!
First sentance sounded swedish, but with a slight hint of finnish funny enough.
"Zigenare" sounded slightly off with you highlighting a hard G when it should be more of a J as in "jeans".
Otherwise, pretty damn flawless.

Echt waar?

Omg, it was taking too long to form Dutch sentences. Did you know that you people are word order perverts? Anyways, I love Dutch, unironically the best language ever. Nevermind about your text, I had a laugh.
As for the microphone, I blame Putin.

5 jaar is snel!

Idk, here is a good poem. Big letters=stress, '=softness, y on itself= a russian sound no foreigner can pronounce properly, like a hard "i"
shit, a big i looks like a small L, so a stressed i will look like (i)

Ach, op en dag will I be able Dutch to talk! Sorry for all the mistakes, I lack practice badly. The part I hate the most are those prefixes that go to the end of the sentence, literally what. Thanks for the corrections!
I even looked "half" up in the dictionary...wtf.

I'd record the poem, but don't want to violate your ears with the quality of my mic. (too hard grammar to say it in Dutch lol)

prepositions? You have to split those for some reason. I don't know. There's probably a good reason.

Don't get so mad at me mate I'm scared now ;_;
I promise I'll spend tomorrow with a Dutch textbook in my hands!

>prepositions?
Noooo they're actually called prefixes if they're at least sometimes glued to words. Separable prefixes in this case. Linguist here.
>though people here would say hun as well, but its wrong and they're dumb!
whaaaa?? I've been at a couple of lessons and i thought the teacher said it was the other way around? Like, that it was a recent trend to say "ze".
>hoe is mijn frans??
Idk, sounded very nasal and french, dus legit to me.
Fun fact - there are way less vocals in Russian, so, speaking from experience, it's harder for Russians to get a grasp of the correct pronunciation.
>>
>>58214005
Wow, German has some very hard words to pronounce.
>>
>>58247959
>dutch textbook
fucking good
>Linguist here.
Ha, one of my uni courses right now is general linguistics. Neat.
Give me an example, I'm sure you mean prepositional prefixes (not sure if thats a thing). Words like 'opnemen' become 'neem op'. Op is a preposition in Dutch (op het dak - on the roof), but can be used as a prefix, but it's still referred to as a voorzetsel (lit. preposition), at least when I was in school. (not too long ago)
>ze
the correct word would be 'hen'. but i tend to say 'ze' a lot, as well as pretty much everyone else, especially for objects. in fact, i remember writing a paper and actually applying the rule 'hen' for people and 'ze' for objects myself, though i don't think thats actually a rule, and you should actually always use hen for direct and hun for indirect object.
i dont think ive ever heard anyone say 'ik zal hen lezen' always 'ik zal ze lezen' but ik heb hen gezien' for people

>harder for russians
i knew having all these sounds would pay off
>>
>>58248195
Yep, I meant these. I see there's a mismatch in terms. In Russian this term, separable prefix, is used both for Dutch and German - in English only for German. Meh, sorry.
What else do you study btw?

So hard! I'll try to learn it tomorrow.

I study Artificial Intelligence. So I get a bit of pretty much everything lol.
Right now, general linguistics, linear algebra, and some class called AI 1 but its a programming class and theyre teaching us basic ai principles.
>In Russian
Dumb rooskies )))
I don't know what terms English uses for this phenomenon, but I know for sure that Dutch uses the word voorzetsel.
Also, http://www.dutchgrammar.com/nl/index.php?n=Verbs.Co04

I actually have a lecture in like 7 hours so goodnight byebye see you tomorrow hopefully
