A very notable example completed in '39, the "Daily Express Building" in Manchester (UK). Streamline moderne + glass facade, and you got yourself a winner.

This is the Massachusetts's "New" Statehouse. It's the second oldest Capitol in the country in continuous use. New Mexico has the oldest.

1939, Johnson Wax Headquarters, somewhere in Wisconsin. Again, looks a bit dated today, but definitely way beyond what you'd expect from the 30's.

This is the Old State house. Finished in 1713, 6 years after the United Kingdom came into existence. It has the symbols of the English and Scottish monarchs as statues.
The New statehouse has only been in use since 1630.

It's new 555 meter tall (not yet finished) Lotte World Tower in Seoul, South Korea.

I wouldn't be surprised. The ammount of skyscrapers China is building is incredible. A bit more than 10 years ago we finally saw a skyscraper surpass the 500 meters mark (the Taipei 101). If now we counted finished and already under construction buildings the Taipei 101 would be at the 20th place or lower and half of the new ones are in China. Also we will soon finally a building surpass the Km mark.
Well, we might not have big ass skyscrapers but we have other nice stuff.

As a city dweller, I will never understand how you guys would live your daily lives which envies me from time to time. Over here (just like every other east asian cities), Its literally like a well-oiled machine straight from a conveyer belt. Everything sets in monotony, daily lives are restricted to blocky homes, "sardinated" mass transit and 40 story offices, everywhere you go its so densely populated loomed over by skyscrapers and flashy led advertising. Times i would wonder am i in control of my life or just simply another pawn in this megalomaniac city

Living in a small town probably has some advantages, but it's not for me. Streets are empty, shops are scarce, everything is far away, and too much money each month goes to transportation. I have nature at my doorstep, the sky is clear, and the air is clean, but I just like having life around me.

I've never been in Asia so I can't tell, but I don't expect life to be very different. Maybe you have lower buildings around you, narrower streets or a bit less of traffic or polution, but I don't expect the daily life of someone living in a modern 500k city or a modern 20m city to be really different except for scenary.
