It's a well-crafted tower, and it isn't really much of an eyesore. Eye-catching, but not ugly, and it's not tall enough to truly stand out among the crowd. I'm not defending anything, I'm just saying it's not a bad tower as far as modern NYC ones go.

Besides, why make the largest cities the capital?

I love American cities. I love American culture, lifestyle, people and the country in general. I can name all 50 states in 2 min (my personal record so far) including all the state capitals and all the major metro cities with no problem. I know their location as well. US in general is a big place, east coast cities are generally more packed and have better urban transportation, west coast cities is where the suburbia was born, very spread, designed for a different lifestyle than the east coast. There was a good urban transportation in the coast, but the auto industry killed it (see ''who killed the electric car''). European cities are small, old building, most Europeans want to preserve their old building, American's don't have old building, so they just build the newest and the tallest. I prefer US cities, even though living in Bulgaria i am used to walk, the cities are small and everything is in walking distance. It will take me exactly 15 min. to go to the city center from my house walking at a normal speed. My city is 25K population.
>>
>>54034538
I guess you have to understand the ideas and ideologies of early American politicians. We were very suspicious of politicians and money influencing government. And for a lot of cities, they were the most populous cities at the time they were made capital.

Just a different mentally than in London or Paris where one huge city dominates the country.

What are you talking about? MUH HISTORY is European thing. The first thing Europeans tell non-Europeans is how old and special their buildings are, there is always some history behind every building you see. Few years ago there was an old building in Germany that became unnecessary and others wanted to take that spot, instead of destroying it, they payed millions just to REMOVE, that's right, they lifted the building and moved it to another place instead of just destroying it. US has no history of tall buildings, they build whatever is practical and necessary to be build. They don't keep building just because of history.

I don't like noisy places, i like quiet places, but on the other hand i don't wanna live in an isolated place, i wanna be near a city for convenience. It depends on how you define soulless, and what are your personal preferences.Though i agree European cities tend to be more populated in the sense that you can see people walking all around you, as they are small cities and Europeans prefer to walk instead of driving. However when you walk into an American supermarket you feel more alive than when you walk into a European one. In Europe, people are more quiet, in America people like to talk.

That's a question i've been wondering myself for a long time, the most correct answer is that i would have to try few to see which one suits me the most. However, as of now, it would be either LA, SF, Boston or Seattle, because those are the top venture capital cities, and these cities would be the best for the type of work i do/want to do. Among them, if i had to choose, perhaps either LA or SF. SF is VERY expensive, although i like the public transportation. I don't like the fact that there are so many startups there, i like to stand out, but i also like how small and convenient the whole city is. Seattle is also very nice city, but i don't like the weather, i don't like raining all the time, it depresses me. Boston is too cold, i don't like the cold weather. So, i guess LA would be my choice if i had to pick one right now. More specifically, west LA (Santa Monica). Generally speaking, if i had the time and resources, i would live anywhere in the US.
Where do you live?

What kind of vibes? I know SF is very diverse in terms of ethnicity and sexuality. I talked (online) to a women from SF before, she told me she was ''bisexual'' and that there are a lot of ''bisexual'' people in SF. I also know that SF is very liberal. San Jose is very nice, i would definitely want to visit someday if i can, it feels a little bit too spread, is that correct?

Yeah San Jose like L.A in the aspect of urban sprawl. There isn't really much to visit Tbh. I don't like the ultra liberal safespace gay vibes in SF.

Although I'm conservative and since SF is the most liberal city in America I'm probably really biased.

>are you retarded it isn't about height or number or skyscrapers!!!
it's not entirely about number of skyscrapers and height but it's a big factor which should be taken in consideration, it's "skyline rating" after all, more tall buildings generally make up for a better skyline

Pure height doesn't count for shit.
Dubai is filled with tacky architecture and is completely unbalanced. When every building is a supertall, nothing stands out, with the exception of the Burj obviously, which is just about the only good looking building in the city.

There also way too much empty space. Why not put some nice 100-150 meter buildings instead of another dickscraper?
>>
>>54037363
Could be, but i doubt it. I think other Bulgarians will agree with me when i say that you will rarely see a Bulgarian community abroad, mostly because Bulgarians avoid each other when they leave the country. That was the case for a long time, perhaps things are changing now, but i really doubt you will see a lot of Bulgarians living in one place, unless they are relatives of friends. I think the largest population of Bulgarians in the US is in Chicago, California and Texas.

I haven't experienced this so i can't really say, but ultra-liberalism like the so called Social Justice Warriors would definitely irritate me. I had a conversation one time with a guy from SF, i told him that by increasing the minimum wage, you prevent people from getting an entry level job, and you increase the unemployment, he got pissed off and said he like it this way and then he left the chat. One of the differences i notice between liberals and conservatives is that conservatives at least like to debate, liberals hate debating, its either you agree with them or they will ignore you.

I am talking about the American version of Liberal and Conservative. Have you tried arguing with a liberal before? Rather with an ultra-liberal aka SJW, the ones that believe that Colleges are NOT intellectual space, but a ''safe home''. They will shut you down instantly and refuse to debate or accept anything you have to say or show to them, regardless what it is. They don't care about facts, they just want to be right. In general, i am socially liberal, rather ''libertarian'', as in, i am pro weed, and i want the government to not intervene in peoples lives, but i also have common sense and i am not ultra liberal and i do not ignore the facts. Some liberals are literally insane, like the ones in college campuses.

It's not that hard to maintain if you really want to. There are whole streets outside of Oslo's centre still intact for example, but constructors want the central areas the most as they are the most valuable. Back in the 60's and 70's, nobody really cared about what they had to tear if there was money to be made.

Well, first I don't really know because like here on 4chan 99% Poles are conservative and in general people here are rather conservative, most of my friends irl are conservative too lol

But honestly I'd say liberals/leftists debate more reasonably, like I saw EU debate on Poland, socialists were more like calmly stating their opinions and conservatives were MUH EMOTIONS MUH PATRIOTISM MUH POLAND MUH, just totally not my thing

when I was personally talking to conservatives I felt the same way, when I was trying to discuss reasonably, backing up my opinions with scientific research etc, right wingers were more referring to emotions and generally they were agressive

desu I'm leftist both socially(but not really in every regard like I don't support weed legalization) and economically

Well first of all you have to distinguish the people you're talking about. Your government is not right-wing or conservative in the American sense of the word, but rather ''nationalistic''. Nationalists are generally social conservatives and economic liberals. They are the worst of them all, they believe in ultimate government control. Government control of the economy, government control of people's lives. In Bulgaria it's the same, in Europe in general is the same. In America liberals and conservatives are a little bit different than the European ones. In Bulgaria people are generally socially liberal i have to say, most people want weed legalization and are not very patriotic, however, in politics, left-wing people are the nationalistic nut jobs aka russian supporters.

>>54041206
Well, here's the thing about legal and illegal immigration from Mexico. The reason why you have so many illegals is because there really is no legal alternative. It is close to impossible to immigrate to the US even for high skill people, for low skill people it's nearly impossible. They would have to wait for over a hundred years, im not kidding. I saw a statistics that show that the average Indian programmer would have to wait about 30 years to get into the US, the average Mexican teen if apply for a US visa, would have to wait over 100 years. Obviously they are not going to wait, they are just going to come illegally as there is no other legal way of coming. It's the same as the drug war, simply make the drugs legal, and the drug war ends tomorrow. Make it easy for people to get a working visa or a work permit, and the illegal crossings end tomorrow. When it comes to assimilation, the US the one country that has no problem with that, because of the free market, or at least that used to be the case. The best way to assimilate people from different backgrounds is by letting them assimilate themselves using the free market. The free market allows people that might otherwise hate each other to work together, because even when you hate your neighbor, you still want to sell to him. The US free market has shown that even muslims have no problem integrating. The co-founder of YouTube is muslim, Steve Jobs parents were muslims, there are literally thousands of American muslims that are well famous but most people don't even know they are muslim. The Free market is the only way to let diverse people integrate, the US has proven this already. Europe keep making the same mistake of trying to force integration with social programs which never work. The one thing they have to do is remove all social programs and let the people get a job on the market and live the way they want, if they commit a crime arrest them, it's as simple as that.

It does not drive down wages, in fact it increase the wages. Most immigrants that come to the US are either very low skilled or very high skilled. They do not directly compete with the locals, they complement each other for the most part. Americans have a lot more alternatives which is why they don't choose to do low paying jobs, low skilled immigrants have little alternative, so they do the work Americans do not want to do. Even if they did, they still do not drive down wages, an American that does not get hired on a low skilled job over an immigrant will be hired on another one created by the demands of that same immigrant. High skilled immigrants usually build businesses, even if not, they do not drive down wages. All immigrants are in a way business creators because they become consumer, which means they create demand for more stuff, more demand = more jobs, more businesses. For the consumer, more alternative is better, for the people that have to compete with more people it probably sucks, but that is better for the consumer and ultimately for the average American. I don't know what you mean by ethnic character.

>they do the work Americans do not want to do.
The only case this is even remotely true is for seasonal farm labor.
That work is quickly drying up though due to automation, and it was already a small portion of illegal immigrants.

Nobody is entitled, but if people are free to come to the US, you would see an explosion of productivity and capital creation. Just few decades ago, anybody who wanted could come to the US. If Nikola Tesla was not free to come to the US, he would've never created what he did. Same goes for Einstein. The world is full of Einsteins who are stuck in low productive places they can't do anything, if they go to a high productive place like the US, they would help themselves and help everybody around them. It's like a farmer stuck in Antarctica, he may be the best farmer, but he's not going to grow much in Antarctica, if he moves to a productive place like the US, now he can be productive.

Low skilled absolutely do. That's why republicans do fuck all to stop it. I'm fine with high skilled to some extent but I don't believe the meme that they bring us some huge benefit we would not other wise have, at least nowadays. There are many many countries that have built themselves up very impressively by borrowing ideas without the actual immigration. Like Japan and the Asian tigers. As for the ethnic character, I'm just tired of seeing once 100% white areas become gradually more and more brown. Call me a racist, in that regard I suppose I kind of am.

There could be plenty of geniuses in the US too, but they can't get a job in their field because companies abuse H1B visas. So instead of inventing things or doing research in the private sector, they are stuck working at starbucks.
University research positions are incredibly limited and hard to get too, so don't even start on that.

and furthermore unchecked immigration doesn't go well with a welfare state (that I'd like the US to become). As for immigration supposedly being a pro by offestting declining birthrates, I believe the population is already far far too high and most people have skills that automation will decimate in the coming decades. Countries should be shedding population and not adding to it.

That is not the information i have. The information i have is that hotel industry workers, agriculture workers, and many other industries cannot find the people they need. A low skilled American is not the same as low skilled immigrant. Low skilled American have the skills of speaking the language and having cultural literacy, which is something low skilled immigrants do not have. This skill alone instantly puts the American in a different group. In any case, it doesn't matter even if they compete for the same job, as i said, more people = more consumers = more demand = more jobs. An American that is not hired for a low skilled job over an immigrant will get hired on another one created by the demands of that same immigrant. The heavy economic restrictions, the minimum wage and other regulations that make it difficult for the free market to work, and for Americans to get a job, that is a different question, it is not related to immigration, it is related to economic policies.

You're not very informed on this topic. The US was built by immigrants. Everything that you have is built by immigrants. Hollywood was built by immigrants, Silicon Valley, Wall street, everything. Tell me one thing that has come out of Japan, and i will tell you where that thing originates from and who created it.

What the fuck are you smoking?

An illegal immigrant working for minimum wage or less does not support another minimum wage or greater job.

Yeah well they are social conservatives but also not really liberal economically.
>>
>The US was built by immigrants
I am well aware. And for the reasons I have listed this should end. Especially because almost every immigrant now is non-white and as I said it is fundamental changing the ethnic character of this country. I don't want that. The people here can innovate just fine or we can borrow ideas and improve upon them as we have done in the past. We can have a great standard of living without more and more immigration and I strongly value that.

If it was easy to get a work permit, there would be no illegals. And as i said, more people create more demand, they are consumers, they are customers, they buy stuff, more demand equals more supply, therefore either more businesses need to be created, or existing ones need to expand production to supply the new demand. Expand in production means more jobs for people. A lot of the immigrants that come create new market demands that never existed before. Also minimum wage job is only an entry level temporary job, once you gain experience and skills on the job, you can trade that for higher pay. You are not stuck in one position forever, unless you chose to do that of course, or the government makes it difficult to climb the job ladder.

>>54043117
The fundamental character of America is not ethnically white. America is not ethnically white by default. It just so happened to be that the first immigrants that came were white, that doesn't mean they are the default color of the country.

this was the most striking thing I noticed in Beijing. There was no "downtown" area where all the skyscrapers were like in American cities. There are clusters of skyscrapers here and there.

>If it was easy to get a work permit, there would be no illegals.
If it were easier to get work permits companies would never hire an American again.

>And as i said, more people create more demand, they are consumers, they are customers, they buy stuff, more demand equals more supply, therefore either more businesses need to be created, or existing ones need to expand production to supply the new demand.
Again, illegal immigrants are bottom of the ladder in terms of job creation. It probably takes 10 or more illegal immigrants to create one high skill job.

The all around better solution is to export as much low skill work as possible to other countries, and what can't be outsorced can be filled by low skill Americans. Because we do have plenty.

>America is not ethnically white by default. It just so happened to be that the first immigrants that came were white, that doesn't mean they are the default color of the country.

I have disagreements with this statement because our history has been riddled with examples of us being defacto declared as a "white" nation, dating back to our original voting law (white land owners only) and our original immigration law (white people only). Chinese exclusion act etc.

99% of the white people who came here in the first 200 years of our existence came here from a european area a little smaller than the size of Texas (UK and netherlands, then parts of Germany and scandinavia). This nation was populated by Europeans and founded by Europeans. If they were founded by anyone else, I would readily say that those founders get a claim to the racial identity of the country. I'd say that America is white in the same right that Europe is white. White people are the original founders in both regards. (Note: I'm referring to America as the current political entity, not the as the piece of land in general or the older
native nations)

I don't really know what Chinese urban planners really want to achieve maybe they want some modern healthy CBD's combined with nature? but that doesn't make much sense ... CBD's are supposed to cut commuting times, and be as dense as possible on the smallest area possible, and they are putting fucking parks there?

This is a centre of Shanghai.
