The Tour Vauban
18m-high polygonal defensive tower built to a plan by Vauban on the Sillon at Camaret-sur-Mer, as part of the fortifications of the goulet de Brest.
Drafted in 1683, the tower was designed in 1689 by Vauban and construction was supervised by the military engineer Jean-Pierre Traverse from 1693 to completion in 1696

Royal Albert Bridge, Saltash, Cornwall
Looks modern in design but was actually done in the 1850s by Brunel. Not very Cornwall-y
Ireland is sort of a cross between England and Yurop

Truro cathedral.
Truro is the southern-most city in the UK.

Yokohama has a lot of nice surviving western-style architecture, being one of the major hubs for foreigners in Japan back in the 19th century and onwards. The glass building you see to the left of it is also in fact a very old building, but with a modern extension on top. The base is still similarly styled as the museum pictured.

It is one of the harsher feels known to man
>>53193594

a lot of japs and non japs who came to japan complain about it
I wonder is it that bad
A Brit once told me he wished they had straight, squared roads like America instead of yarnball asphalt.
I'd rather have roads with more character like Brits have got.
What about you, /int/?
>>53194547
having lived my entire life in a city old as fuck and that grew organically and not planned i can tell you roads don't matter at all, organizing and planinng is where is at
>>53194547
Got any examples of such roads?
>>53194547
>I'd rather have roads with more character like Brits have got.
You'd rather live and commute comfortably...
>>53194547
wanna see roads with character ?
>>53194779
No, but the way he described them sounded nice. I also wish we had good public transportation.
>>53194806
This is true. It is nice to be able to remember your cardinal direction as well as the number/type of turns you've made when you're navigating a new place.
>>53194685
Hovercars will save you.
>>53195243
hahaha, NOPE. Definitely looks driveable but definitely nope. Looks like a one-way, too.

>>53195425
I'd take it with bike only for sure
There are a lot with safeguards tho
>>53195243
does it ever get icey?
>>53195585
The department it's located in is pretty mountainous so it's possible but I can't be sure. They'd probably close it if it was too much, those roads are still used nowadays but come with a lot of warnings and they'll block it if need be
They usually have barriers tho
>>53195243
scary
>>53195648
turns out my phone never finished sincronizing and i only have this two pictures, fuck

Not really architecture but while we're at it, post interesting roads ?

>>53196917
Alright I'll know it in the future, even though I admit I post them more for the beautiful scenery than for the road itself

>>53196680
>>53196759
While I think the old ones were ugly, I also think they were much more iconic parts of the NYC skyline, not to mention marvels of their time. Something about the new one just feels kind of half-assed, as it's not really as original or groundbreaking as its predecessor(s). Nice tower though, but boring I guess? I would have liked the project much better if it came with a twin, to honor the old towers more.
>>53197132
Good idea tb.h, the opposite must be pretty hard tho
Well here, better with a motorcycle
>>53197275
>as it's not really as original or groundbreaking as its predecessor(s).
how the fuck a rectangle is original ?
>>53197412
They were pretty intricate in facade and engineering. Shape is one thing, but square towers were the norm in those days, just like funny shapes are the norm nowadays. It was more original in the sense of its incredible height and dimensions for its time, not to mention it wasn't one tower, but two of incredible height and dimensions. Shit like that probably shook the world to unimaginable ends. As for the new one, a glass tower has been seen before, a glass tower in that shape has been seen before, a glass tower of that height (and taller) has been seen before. Just that, really. They made it in the same height too to honour the original, but I wish they hadn't. Just feels like they were holding back, especially by not even building a second one. The future cluster around it is all fine and dandy, but it just doesn't feel like much. That's just me, though.

It's pretty much Brendan Fraser: the building yeah
>>53198319
I don't even
>>53198384
kek, but in all seriousness, I don't think anyone expected a huge-ass plane to crash into it at any time. Maybe they planned for a smaller one, such as the one that landed in the Empire State, but not a big-ass Boeing.
>>53198716
I still don't get how the entire building could collapse though. It's an inside job I swear, they detonated it.
>>53185369

>>53201545
Cute. How old?
>>53201792
Wish we had bridges like these. Closest I can think of is pic related, lmao.
>>53202178
>but I always question whether or not it's really that good an idea building on top of land like this
This one kinda had to be done, before that the cars (and it's a crowded road) had to pass through the near city of Millau and it caused endless problems, accident, noise, pollution etc in the city
So now fuck it, the road goes straight through the clouds
>How old?
1882 according to wiki (and pic related)
>Wish we had bridges like these
Well what the Scandiniavian countries lack in pretty cathedral/bridges and all they make up with nature
