I did this as well with the hope of replacing parts bit by bit to save money, however in practice you just keep using your pc until it is outdated, at which time the only things you can keep are the harddrives, case and maybe powersupply. Because when you need a new processor, you need a new motherboard, you probably need new graphics card as well. And new RAM. And those are the most expensive parts already...
