Probably the same way as with other researches: they took a random selection of an appropriate sample size of Brits and extrapolated those results.
Most other countries have comparable results. This is why I believe DNA testing for paternity should be mandatory. But instead feminists argue that it should be forbidden, and in some countries it already is.
