Remember, no matter what kind of advice you're given, if you feel lost or overwhelmed - just draw. Draw whatever, draw something new, draw something you want, just don't draw something you're used to drawing before. Drawing enough will show you your own weakspots - if you're passionate enough to improve, you'll know where to start. Improvement is a steep slope, though - once you find out you're weak in something like the arm and start practicing it, you'll start falling further and further back until...

Also OP what I did when I was a beginner was I did a series of "tests" to gauge where I was at and what I needed. Out of all my beginner experiences Id say the biggest hurdle and thing that made things better for me was understanding perspective and drawing objects in 3d.

If your art is 'offending' them, they don't have to be fans of your work and there is not point in trying to pander to people who only gave a shit about you because you offended them. If you let them get to you your work will suffer, and why? Just to appease some strangers on Tumblr?

To draw the body, make this shape with the head and tail.

Color fill the body then add two (less or more) black (or any color) stripes on its tail.

Hello, What is contemporary art?
I plan to take an admision exam on a fine arts academy and they want people to show 10-15 works and explain a few to the teachers. Most people are rejected because they produce "boring baroque style" or works not corresponding to this era. (surrealism, impresionism)
If you can recommend some books i would be very thankful, otherwise posting some artists or art.
I ony went to a contemporary art gallery once and 90% of the works there were portraits with vivid colors

Well, i found that the themes are mostly the same but what has changed is the style it is presented, but the only real references i have are of some specific movements in wikipedia.
I really love that you get to have so much freedom in what you can express but i'm really confused about the esthetics it follows
