You should add this >>54597734 to your copy pasta about the moto g.
>>
Hey guys I have a a Moto xpure. I don't like it very much bad battery life, falling apart. I'm gonna get a new phone what should I get or should I wait? I was considering the iPhone 7
>>
>>54614050
>I was considering the iPhone 7
How are you considering something that is not even out yet???
>>
>>54614070
Cause I'll wait and its not going to be bad. Or should I just the 6s
>>
will it be a mistake to get moto g3 now? I want the dual speakers and the curved back

Yes.

Should I worry about the SAR rate of my honor 7, I mean it's within the FCCs range and I use it for phone calls once a week
>>
>>54613987
You forgot Sony's new phablet

http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_xa_ultra_hands_on-review-1440.php

Maybe, just maybe they will fix their shit camera for once before they release a new flagship in November/next year. At least they're trying.
>>
>>54614258
everything else is expensive or shit
RN3 is just not available between their sale stunts
>>
Anyone knows when the One Plus 3 is gonna be released?

There is really no alternative to the Samsung S7 at the moment.

The HTC 10 is even more expensive, a complete joke given where HTC stands at the moment.
>>
Someone do a latest infographic pls

A cousin of mine had an old lumia model and she hated it.
I got to check a more current lumia at a local phone shop and i had no idea what the fuck i was doing the whole time i had it on my hand.
Maybe i am a retard or the damn thing was so fucking confusing to navigate around.
>>
>>54614020
fucking nailed it

their build quality is still good though, I think NOKIA should go full Android

I like the hand warmer feature too.

Getting chink shit without the nice price.

No micro SD or removable batteries

If you're into this kind of cuckoldry might as well just purchase the new Apple iPhone 6S Plus.
>>
Worth it to wait for the new Moto G or should I just buy the 3rd gen?
>>

>>
Is the Vernee Thor worth it? 110 dollaridos..
>>
>>54614952
Get a chinkphone, they are better for the price.
>>
>>54614960
No shit..? I/O is always for new Android OS, not devices. they will announce Android N and a VR something and that's it.
>>
>>54614961
Pretty good for the price.
>>
>>54614952
g3 is shit. might as well just save up to get a flagship. i loved my moto g1 then upgraded to a moto g3 but the phone feels sluggish compared to the 1st one.

everything was way off. specially without the led notification so even the slightest bump lights up your moto g3 screen. fuck that shit.

have an s7 now, best phone i ever had. followed by moto g1

>>
>>54615479
I did a bit of a research, seems like a great value phone.
I'm still worried about the quality of the firmware tho, I'd definitely use CM13 instead of the stock one. I know there the leaked Qualcomm ROM and an alpha CM build but I don't want to wait.
>>
>>54615548
There's an official AOSP ROM from Qualcomm available but it's still on 5.1:

Q1 can you change icons without buying Pro?

I know I should be happy that I like my phone but the consumer and techphile in me is mad there's nothing to look forward to. Closest thing I want in an Xperia X but I'd be trading oled for camera and weight. Fuck, guess I'll wait for Sony to get on the oled meme.

I hate the era of smartphones. Ten years ago money bought you different functionalities and genuine quality. Now I have to fork over cash just not to have my phone fall apart after a year of use.

And I blame apple and iPhone. They upped the ante so everybody jumped into the ship that is android.

While physical longevity wasn't what I was whining about, this is a weird new find for me.

I was more talking how every phone has some kind of error or a bug endemic to that model or brand and that I didn't have to worry about playing russian roulette with my purcahse years ago. For example. my S4 has that damn "SIM card disconnected" bug. Some leneovs turn yellow over time I heard. Those damn huaweis lose wifi signal when connected to a charger etc...

My old k550i Sony Ericsson was a mediocre phone in its hayday, but I didn't have to worry about a damn thing. No one did, no matter what phone they had.

>>
>>54618993
You are right too. Consumerism is too strong, of course everybody wants the newest gizmo, that's why there is a new iphone or a new galaxy S phone by samsung coming out every year.

And don't get me started on how android hurt competitiveness big time. Since everything looks and feels similar no objective opinion can form. Innovation has come down to making the battery last longer, stuffing in more cores, and more ram to support all the bloat.
>>

I've never been sold on Motorola's Turbo charge. I feel like it just erodes your battery even faster in return for being able to use it more often.

3+ years of updates straight from google
It's only $229
Ease of unlocking/rooting
Community
>>
>>54619206

5x has better battery life, and will receive more Android updates than the Pure Edition will. However it does not have SD support, and the screen might be slightly worse. Can't remember
>>
>>54619243
>>54619261
I appreciate the answers.

>3+ years of updates straight from google
It will be on contract so I will only have it for 2 years so the 3+ years thing is handy but not essential.

>However it does not have SD support, and the screen might be slightly worse.
SD support would be really handy since I like music and movies for long train rides.
>>
>>54619261
>>54619393

If you like music, Pure Edition has some nice speakers on it which is fine when you don't have headphones. SD support is only really needed when you have a lot of music, which is common.

5x only comes in 16 and 32 GB, while the Pure Edition comes in 16, 32, and 64 GB.
>>

Android is monopoly (right word?). And basically it's either iOS or Android, no more choices, truly helpless situation. Nokia is going to be releasing its phones with Android in some time. So WP is dead.
>>
>>54619430

>>
>>54619670
>open-source
>monopoly
>>
>>54619727
But there are no other OSes.
>>
>>54619727
Android has won over the market because of the multitude of programs that can run on it, and people have become dependent on them, not android itself, even though the end results are the same.
I too now need something like whatsapp to stay in touch with my cousins and friends when they are abroad. But that's just me, rest of the population uses many more android dependent applications on a daily basis.
>>

>>
>>54620352
Don't fuck around with that guy, You know damn very well what he means that there is no other OS than android that has that kind of the market share. Yes, the android running on a Huawei and a Sony, even if its the same version, isn't completely the same, but it's and android nonetheless.
>>
>>54620427
AOSP =/= Android + gapps

How can you complain about an open-source mobile OS being a "monopoly". It just exists.
>>
>>54620486
First off, I'm not the one who used the word monopoly, and second even the guy who did originally use the word in his post said himself
>(right word?)

And I'm gonna be more precise with my wine, it's not the androids fault, its the company's that have gone the route of lesser resistance and grabbed the first thing they could just to parry the damn iPhone. It's a tumor, not a monopoly.

Well what do you need to use your phone for? For starters I would suggest Greenify to help with battery life.

Do you need it for email or work purposes? Gmail has an app pre-installed, Outlook and others are available free off the marketplace along with Office.

Music players like Spotify, Groove, and others are also available.

Messaging apps are dime a dozen, but most if not all are available on Android (Telegram, Signal, Facebook Messenger, Skype, Whatsapp, Groupme, etc)

So I'm going to get a boost prepaid phone because they have unliimited 4G data plans which is good, as I want to utilize my phone with streaming/web browsing/downloading movies and shit

They have the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S7 but nothing in between. S7 would run me about 800 bucks, not spending that much. Is the S4 a decent purchase in 2016?

I was also considering a Moto G or Moto E, but they look inferior to the S4 even.

If you really need more space when you're out and about just use an OTG flash drive

Basically, I don't data hoard on my phone

S4 is fairly ancient, but you might be able to get a current version of Android if you can unlock the bootloader and flash CM. I saw a ROM for the S2 that brings it up to Marshmallow 6.0.1. But you absolutely will not get official touchjizz 6.0 for the S4, because Samsung claims it would suffer from "performance issues" despite Android getting more efficient with every iteration (the opposite of iOS).

But yeah, you're much better off getting something like the 5X like the previous poster suggested. You can get a great deal off it if you do it through Google Fi, I hear you can cancel Fi after a month and then use the phone with any provider you want. I'd love to use Google Fi though, but I'm in Canada.

I'm having trouble understanding how activating phones work

I went to the boost mobile store, and the guy said you can only use phones you buy from the store or from boost's site directly.

Is this true or is there a workaround? I'm kind of new to all this, dont fully understand, as LG Nexus 5X is not on Boost's site at all, so how would I be able to use that
>>
>>54621343
It's great on aosp if you don't play games. Best bang for buck hardware wise is the rmn3p, nothing beats that. But if you are restricted to the S4 for your boost carrier and you don't mind flashing custom roms, it's decent.

you buy a $2 sim card from boost: http://boost.com.au/shop/2-pre-paid-sim-card/

the guy was lying to you to try to get you to buy a device from him

Don't buy a boost device, buy an unlocked device like the 5x. not only will you be stuck with the boost device, some of their phones are cdma only and won't work internationally or on other carriers

I had a Lumia 920. Liked the hardware itself and the keyboard software was alright. But in terms of apps it has fuck all, I think even MS has given up on the platform. They're not even going to give people the WP10 upgrade they were supposed to get. It's a dead OS basically.

You can't bring ANY phone, it has to be carrier unlocked and support the Boost CDMA bands.

Better save up for a proper VR headset and buy a phone that suits your other needs. VR gaming as a whole isn't on an acceptable level, especially on mobile, it's only good for VR movies and porn.

I'm getting a smartphone for the first time since my iPhone 4, which was a hand me down anyway.

I want to get an android phone, and Im going to have unlimited data plan so I plan on utilizing this to the max via downloading music/videos, browsing the web, etc.

I was thinking of getting the Moto G4 Play when it comes out, as it looks durable and has a good battery. Is this a good choice? I was also looking at the S7 which looks amazing specwise, but I dont know if I could justify buying a phone that costs about the same as my PC setup
>>
>>54622722
>Moto G4 Play
That's a terrible phone, don't.
>>
>>54622758
Why? Looking at the specs it seems like a good budget phone

It's still shit even if Im not planning on doing anything intensive on it?

I want something durable that can possibly take a few falls and also a battery that can last me all day

Is now a good time to buy 5x on Fi for $199?
>>
>>54622892
I suppose I don't know shit about phone processors

Ideally I'd like to not spend more than 400

I just want something I can use just about all day browsing the web and watching some videos, and durable enough to maybe take a fall or two. Water resistant/proof is a nice plus as well.

It seems like the S7 would fit my needs as far as durability, I just can't help but feel like it's overkill for the non-intensive stuff I use it for.
>>
>>54622892

>>54622962
Also I should mention that I don't want anything over 5 inches. Honestly 5in seems a little too big for me (4.5 phones are the most comfortable imo), but Id be willing to put up with it if the phone was great. Just no larger than 5in

>>54622986
The N5X is 5.2" and costs about $270. battery is meh but the rest will suit you quite well.

Redmi 3 is a 5" with crazy good battery life and adequate performance. Mi4c is another option with faster processor.

There aren't many waterproof devices these days.

OUKITEL K4000 is 5" with huge battery and also very durable. costs around $130.

Each of these will be million times better then that Moto crap.

Doubt that'll be much difference between the iPhone 6 and 7. As long as you like the OS - I'd go the cheaper option.

My Nexus 5X Mini-review - I have the phone 2 months now, and I'm happy with it. Changed from an S4 Mini.

Pros
>not too big size, just good enough (I need to use 2 hands to use it properly)
>beautiful screen, does its job very well in sun
>stable, constant android updates
>despite the fact that it has 2gb of ram, I don't feel any kind of problems
>the basic response is very good, even with 600+ uptime hours, it was as responsive as it was after a reboot
>never had an app crash, it's super stable
>charges very fast (plus fast speed if you have a decent usb type-c to 3.0 cable)
>excellent camera (takes very good pictures even in low light)
>battery should've been bigger, but it's okay for me - lasts 3 days for me which is nice (compared to 1.5 - 2 on the S4 mini)

cons
>build quality - too much plastic, requires a good case to make it look and feel better (Verus High Pro is quite good I use it)
>no USB Type-C to Type-A cable included - huge mistake on LG's side (I ordered a cable from Amazon, use Benson's guides to pick a cable for yourself)
>discoloring back plastic reported by users (LG usually replaces them, I didn't encounter this, but read some forums when it caused problems...)
>google maps tend to drain the battery, even with GPS turned off, it will use the GPS and drain your battery (hard to clear the battery drain, usually a restart solves the problem)

My biggest issue is with Google Maps now - sometimes clearing it's cache solves the battery drain, sometimes it doesn't. Before May's update, I only had one issues with it, and after the May update, I had 3 incidents now and 1 required full restart and app reinstall in order to stop the battery drain. Google should put its shit together and fix the battery drain.

But in overall - very happy with it, comes with a 9/10 score for me.

Need a decent phone, money is not a problem, but won't buy the flaming new one for .2 g of ram.

How are the updates and custom ROM's for those phones?
My last budget phone never got updated beyond 4.2.2
