Does anyone know of a Miyota 9015 powered watch with an exhibition caseback UNDER 350 dollars?

Sweet jesus the price of these watches have skyrocketed.

I fell in love with Obris Morgan watches, but the lack of a visible movement is a no no for me.

Tisell had one but they're sold out due to lack of movements. An undecorated 9015 is pretty lame looking though, and to get a sharp one you need to shell out for a Citizen Grand Classic.

I got pic related. I really like it. It's Swiss and operates off a battery. Only draw back is I can't seem to figure out how to set the second hand. Also this is my second one and it's losing time as well. I might take it back again it's under warranty or I might try to find the crazy battery size and swap it out and see if that fixes it.

9gag, what are your thoughts on the basel 2016 air king? I think it's the worst dial I've ever seen and am tempted to get two or three of them to hold onto as "investments" because in a decade I'm confident they'll be mocked as the worst rolexes ever and thus appreciate in value for some stupid fucking reason.

It hasn't taken that crown from the yachtmaster 2, in my view.

If they ever do appreciate, I think it would take a long time, especially if you paid for a new one.

Here's another photo.

Really, I just want something that will replace my SNK802 and have hacking/handwinding. Big chunky lume and nothing too busy on the dial or bezel.
>>
>>54452459
Go for it. Personally for 150 I'd bump my price up and get a skx or a monster.
>>
>>54452452
The yachmaster 2's fugliness is borne out of function, at least. 2016 air king is ugly af due to the whimsy of some "designer." I'm assuming within a year rolex AD's will be paying people to take the air kings off their hands and then in a decade there will be some misplaced nostalgia.
>>
>>54452494
Nothing wrong with an SKX, but I gotta have hand winding and most importantly, hacking. And Monsters aren't exactly simple looking.
>>
>>54452542
>Borne out of function
While I appreciate things borne out of function, and I do, and I am willing to stretch things a little, the function of the yachtmaster 2 is stretched so far it's basically invented. The original Yachtmaster is provides no real 'yachting' function but managed to be their yachting watch for 15 years. Before the yatchmaster 2 came out.

Pretty sure the main drive of the yatchmaster 2 was to make a 44mm behemoth -- a full 4mm larger than a Daytona -- that some of their customers want to show off, and then they'd give a couple for free to some yachting teams to try and justify it in some other way than "our customers wanted something that could be seen from across the room in their Beverly Hills parties, and then brag about how it's for professionals who do things."

Don't be silly anon. It's for showing off social standing, just like women and their jewelries. The ability to measure time is a bonus. That's why I'm wondering why people in this thread would bother showing pictures of watches under $20000.

Many watches over 20k are not understood to convey social standing. A Piaget Altiplano flyback chrono, or a 5164, the dual time aquanaut, will generally garner less attention than anything with the Rolex Coronet on the dial. Unless that particular person knows anything about watches. And if they did, they wouldn't have an arbitrary standard about 20k being special.

I've been noticing that my automatic watch is more accurate on my wrist than on the watch box.
Is this related to the power reserve?
The more power reserve, the more accurate?
Maybe it's a silly question but I want to be sure.

>>
>>54462660
I see no discernible damage, so it should be the rotor screw loose.
Open it, tighten it, and it should be god to go.

Also, check the accuracy, the drop might have made the clock run faster or slower a bit, although it's usually not something that happens.
>>
>>54462784
Also, do NOT overtighten the screw. Screw it gently until it seems fixed then do a LITTLE extra push. Nothing more.
>>
>>54462769
Yup.

It's the big screw in the middle that's holding the rotor in place. >>54462784 Explained it for me.

Though i doubt that affected the accuracy.

It has good shock resistance. After all, anon said the watch is running and in good order, except the rotor screw being loose.

And that can happen to everything. Not like those nasty swiss ETA 2824 that hit the floor and the rotor weight literally snaps from the rest of it.
>>
>>54462976
Bro, all mechanicals since about 1970 have shock resistance.

The 7S26 family is pretty much bulletproof. A little regulation and they can be brought into COSC parameters in at least one position, too.

The Alpinekikes started implementing Incabloc to most of their watches back in 1934~1935.

>Not like those nasty swiss ETA 2824 that hit the floor and the rotor weight literally snaps from the rest of it.
Proof?
>>
>>54463103
Yeah, but curryniggers and chinkniggers started doing it later.
European and japanese watches have shock protection since the 30's.

>>54463093
Because they're not screwd too tightly, That's why I said not to screw the thing to tightly. This ensures that the rotor is as efficient as possible in regards to power transfer. It also makes sure the screw hole is not damaged and the bearing is not under axial stress.
>>
>>54463093
Force has multiple components that can turn the screw.
Take a physics class.
>>
>>54463197
>curryniggers
They were doing a licensed production of the Citizen 5203 and also another cal that i can't recall. They bought the machinery from Citizen during the 70's if recall correctly and just kept churning them out.

So basically they were just making licensed clones of old Citizen calibers with Citizen's old parashock shock protection system.

Chinks are a different story though.
>>
>>54463049

>>
>>54463260
>>54463346

>>
>>54463346
Completely possible in at least face up and one of the sides, or face down and two of the sides, so regulated to 2 or 3 positions within COSC. More positions and the positional variance just fucks it up, so it's impossible.
It's a bit hard and you need to have a VERY steady hand to do that, but the movements are capable of it.
As a comparison, my HMT runs at +10 more or less each day.

>>54463383
Now, go find a thin enough screwdriver to do the work.
>>
>>54463423
COSC certification means it was officially tested to meet the accuracy standards at every position and temperature. Fiddling around with the regulating lever until it shows +1 s/day or whatever does not suddenly turn your watch into a chronometer. And "COSC parameters in one position" is the most retarded statement I have ever heard. Literally the entire point of testing a watch is to ensure that it performs reliably and accurately over a long period of time under any conditions.

It's implied it's not the full COSC definition you autist.
Just -4/+6 seconds or better consistently for 15 days with some variation in position and temperature in at least one position.

For an intelligent listener, half a word is generally enough.
>>
>>54462784
>>54462803
Thanks!! Will attempt when I have time. There's no way it could snap right?
>>
>>54463632
If you don't go full retard with the force applied to the screw, of course it won't snap. At most it will leave the rotor pressing against the bearing and the threads of the screw/hole fucked. So don't apply more force than what is enough.
>>
>>54463593

Soldieranon, do other soldiers only wear G-shocks or occasionally something else?
>>
>>54465552
Right, autists don't need no mechanical. Now go get your quartz and shut the fuck up.
>>
>>54466289
Smartwatches are an interesting concept that could be useful for medical monitoring since they're on your skin, but there doesn't seem to be anything they can do that a smartphone (i.e., a tiny computer you carry with you all the time that can fully satisfy your computing needs) can't do better because of its larger screen and higher computing power. The ability to glance at your wrist and get useful information is great, but why not just pull your phone out?

I think the fascination with wearable tech is a boomer relic from a bygone era when computers were gigantic and the thought of having a computer so small you could wear it was almost incomprehensible.
>>
>>54466413
Oh okay, didn't think it was that bad. I thought it was a good brand since it's well known.
As a Swiss I feel stupid for not knowing watches, but I really want to get a new one and thought that TH smartwatch was a good way to keep it elegant and modern.

I'll have to keep looking, maybe I'll just hit the stores tomorrow to find something nice.
>>

>>54458225
Oh yes, sapphire is most worth it. The Strela has become my daily beater watch, and I'd rather not scratch up the face.
>>
>>54466511
Yeah I know it's just a gimmick, but I don't know... It just appeals to me. I'm that kind of stupid.

I think I'll pass for now, but I think someday I might get one out of curiosity.
>>

Buy a Vostok while you're visiting famalam.
>>
Goug to wear my Steinhart to a place and try on some Tudors.
>>
>>54465552

well if you have to ask this question you should probably just go quartz. And i really mean no condescension whatsoever

if the fact that its mechanical doesnt immediately excite you, then you'll be wasting money on this hobby.

I personally like mechanical because its serviceable, and will last as long as you do if you properly service it, and I wish all things I owned were like this. I don't think any quartz watches fit this bill

many people here like to pretend they are some sort of connoisseurs of mechanical movements but they probably cant tell you the first thing about them. They just use it as another aspect of their lives to feel superior to people without actually having achieved anything

I have a 30 year old East German automatic watch which works normally so I'm well aware of how quality automatic watches are. But for everyday stuff, I don't want to keep track of when was the last time I checked how many seconds it lost
>>
>>54466798
Why?

Very good piece in comparison to the value and interesting conversation piece in comparison to everybody else who's likely wearing Swiss pieces.

Though if you walk around with a Seiko you'd likely trigger quite a bit of people.
>>
>>54466882
Then buy a Casio F-91W and go about your business.

Automatic and mechanical watches are bought for their own sake now rather than as a timekeeping device since they are deprecated, technically speaking.

>Soldieranon, do other soldiers only wear G-shocks or occasionally something else?
I've seen people wear watches from pricier end stuff like GMT Masters, seamasters and submariners to lower end stuff like Seiko flight masters, skx and g shocks. You can tell those types are the enthusiasts though. The most commonly worn are g shocks or casio watches from Walmart not because they're required, but because they're the cheapest thing available.
The rangeman seems to be quite popular among younger guys.

Then there are those guys who pay out of the ass for a fossil.
>>
>>54467124

I think there's better looking watches at that pricepoint and place in time. Also, the strap really does not go well with the watch.

You've been trying cases with that Vostok? In my opinion, the black dial goes well with the small 420 case.

Nothing wrong with that and I own a Sinn and Damasko and would never buy anything pricier even if I had the shekels. I believe ETA serviceability is actually worth it and the other autistic technology adds value. But for an honest no BS watch that is the best value for a mechanical on the market, you really can't beat the humble Komandirskie. Even the Seiko 5 is made in Malaysia. Chistopol on the other hand has Slavs using all original Swiss/Soviet machinery just like they did in the late 50s

I bought it for 500 because the case and bracelet were scratched up, bad. Paid to have it restored, they used thinner hands from a different type of rolex because i didn't like the fat hands and a new case/bracelet/sapphire glass. The rolex parts plus jeweler cost just shy of $2000 the case came from a vintage watch restorer and they serviced the movement at the same time and i got a certificate for my insurance company. They insure it for $7000
but asbergers people don't like that i used different hands to original.
Hardest part was getting a case to fit the older style movement
