have a fresh install of Windows 10 just set up my mail with Thunderbird, but it keeps freezing every 2 minutes, what the fuck?

4690k, Evo 850 SSD and 8GB of RAM should be able to handle fucking thunderbird

ALSO I just realized that Thunderbird is almost constantly using 5-10% in the background. Not even Chrome uses that much with 30 tabs.
>>
>>54307579
Check your settings maybe some shit is trying to load shit that isnt there,or a fuck ton of connections from being misconfigured

>background
>the program i am running is doing things i told it to do,and im bitching about it doing those things
>>
>>54307621
It unironically became better in the last 30 minutes. Maybe it really had to load some stupid shit or whatever which is still odd because I have like 100 emails and that shouldn't take so long but what do I know, it works now and I don't have to get my Outlook license out.

Why do certain smartphones have an upper size limit for microsd cards? What happens if you latch in a 200gb card when the max is said to be 64 or 128?

>>54307706
It wont work.
>>
It's been a few weeks since I've been to /g/, but what happened with the Smartphone threads? Can't find either general. That said, I just jumped the gun and got my mom a Moto G 3rd Gen, but I also saw that the ZenPhone 2 is about 20 bucks cheaper. Should I cancel my order and get the ZenPhone instead? She'll just use it to call and the occasional text message and I went with the Moto G because of the larger screen to help her see.

I have had win10 running for some months, and alongside I've installed many linux distro's. Everytime I changed distros I went into disk management in win10 and deleted the partition.

In my bios there's mint, ubuntu, fedora etc., eventhough I don't have these installed.

I'm planning on changing distro again to manjaro but I feel like I'm not deleting them properly. This will probably be my definitife choise so I want everything clean and secure. I might also format and install win10, how do I just completely delete the current linux distro and all the traces from the other distros if there's any? And can I just remove win10 by deleting it's partition in the win10 installer?
>>
>>54307941
because autism

I just want the cursor in a new page to be at the center of the screen rather than the corner, and I know it's possible because chrome did this, but I don't see a setting anywhere in firefox

Thanks for everything, Anon.

you could get a way cheaper smartphone for that. i don't think you realize how fast these things are these days.

Do you mean GRUB when you say BIOS?

Because deleting the partition in Windows will not delete it from GRUB (though it doesn't take up any space anymore).

If you want a clean install of Linux, just wipe the entire drive.
If you want a clean install of your (current linux), boot from a Windows recovery disk/USB drive and repair the MBR/bootloader

Make sure you installed the motherboard correctly (standoff screws properly installed).

Make sure the Power Supply is properly connected to the Motherboard.

You should at least get power on if those are installed correctly and working.

I would try exchanging the PSU. If that doesn't fix it, then exchange the motherboard.

If you replace the PSU and Mobo and it STILL doesnt turn on, youre fucking up somewhere.
>>
>>54308446
buy a domain name from any registrar that isn't godaddy.

then either find a webhost that has a blogging software preinstalled that allows you to connect your own domain names. (wordpress lets you do this for 13$ per year)
or buy some webspace and install wordpress on your own.

if you have no idea about anything pay someone to do that for you.

Well so far I haven't talked to her ever since and she told me she would call whenever she was available

So I guess I'll take your advice I'm not chasing nobody

Also does anyone by any chance know how would you go around fixing an ASUS motherboard with a dead BIOS? As in, only shows that silly POST logo, no access to literally anything after a key press, gets stuck there. The motherboard is supposed to have a way to directly access its flasher in case of corruption if you put a flash drive with a properly named bios file, but whenever I try that approach the motherfucker just keeps restarting after that ASUS logo instead of getting stuck. Like it's trying to access that software and it ain't there.

literally go to /wg/ and /w/ and find the homescreen threads. I don't know if you need to do anything extra to samshit but install nova launcher (get the paid unlocker too) get klwp (buy the paid version) and lurk and read all the pastebins. Watch brandon craft's KLWP tuts, steal homescreen ideas from the imgur album in the OP of /wg/'s homescreen bread, and download preset KLWP themes from the play store and fiddle around with them to learn the ropes of how to KLWP.

Also, you may want to start lurking /imt/ on both boards so you can make your own wallpapers

Hi /tech support/

I had a windows 7 install on a hard disc drive.
I want to install an SSD alongside it, install licensed windows 10 on it, use it as my boot drive and eventually format the old one.

What's the best way of doing this?
Can I install onto the other drive while booted into the current 7, or do I need a bootable USB? Can I still use the free upgrade license even if I'm moving drive - how? Do I grab my old windows 7 key with a keygrab utility and plug it into the new install?

Thanks guys!

Help me /g/ :(

I don't see any facebook messages pop up in the chat, but when i reload they appear.

I'll see people typing, but nothing pops up in the chat until I reload the page. This is happening with everyone on my facebook chat, and started happening last night. I've tried:

- clearing my browser cache
- installing a new web browser
- deleting the data/logging out of facebook on my phone and on my computer
- disabling ad-block
- creating a group conversation then having someone leave

Yet there's still nothing that seems to fix it. What do I do?

Is Windows blocking Google servers? On W7 and W10 I can't even load the Google search. Google services like YouTube and gMail take forever to load. On Debian it works fine. Android works too, but only throught the apps. I tried changing the DNS but nothing. With the DNS checker, it says the SOA is invalid for Google but I can't change that, so it should be a Google server problem but that doesn't explain why it works with Debian.

120*20*.8=1920

That is of course full load for both, which is bloody unlikely, but you did say safely. A home server actually using a full 500 watts is doubtful. The PSU you use won't actually draw all that power unless it needs it all at once, so unless you have 8 hard drives spinning, all of your GPUs going full speed overclocked, burn a blu ray disc, and calculate the return trajectory of a SpaceX rocket while your home server reaches some absurd load for no reason at all at the same time you should be fine.

I'm not sure if anyone here has any experience with this but I'll ask anyway.
So my brother has a moto x 2013 with an amoled display, and we noticed a stuck pixel in the bottom left side of the screen (it's stuck on green).

Now it was my understanding that amoled screens can't get stuck pixels, but it is definitely lighten up, so I don't think it's dead.
Is there any way to fix this? We've tried a bunch of stuck pixel fixing apps from the play store and left them on for about an hour but none of them have worked so far.
Anything else we can do or is it just hardware related?

My Logitech Anywhere MX mouse stutters badly in Windows 10. I also have a cheap Microsoft mouse, and it has zero issues in Windows 10.

That same Logitech mouse also works flawlessly in Debian. So it's definitely an issue with Logitech + Windows 10.

I'm not very hardware savvy but I'm trying to install a new internal hard drive and was hoping for some help;
Do SATAs going to Hard Drives and regular disc drives (like a Blu-Ray drive,) use similar slots on a mother board? Can I interchange them?
I need to have both my old and new internal hooked up, but I don't seem to have an extra slot for the new one, so I was wondering if I can just take the SATA out of my Blu-Ray drive and use it for the new internal HDD.

One other thing, assuming the above is doable, will plugging my previous internal HDD to a different SATA cable mess with my computer at all? Will it still recognize it like usual or will it get all fucked up and try to reformat it?
>>
>>54311721
>>54311721
yes you can use the same cables, if you switch around where they are plugged on the mobo you may have to go into bios and correct your boot order if it doesn't boot up right
>>
I have extremely limited Internet bandwidth. I wish to be able to download whole webpages to view during offline time. It's too cumbersome to download each page individually. Some people have suggested Web Crawlers, and that's an 'OK' solution. But what about merely the browser remembers the cache of the websites you visit, and allows you to view every page again without Internet access. In short, is it possible to tell Firefox to save every page, and to be able to navigate websites once they've been visited during offline time?
>>
>>54311721
Unless your mother board is weird, SATA slots should be interchangable.

Changing around your HDDs will result in your BIOS/UEFI looking for your boot drive where they used to be, not where they are now. If you manage to boot, Windows will probably do its darnedest to fuck with you, so have backups.

Also, look into PCIe SATA controller cards. (Although a new MoBo might be cheaper)
>>
>>54311762
Thanks a lot. I have a lot of data I don't have a means of backing up right now that I really don't want to lose, so I've been extra-careful about this whole process. As long as messing with these SATA cables won't run the risk of me corrupting anything, I'm sure I can get it working.

If you've already called everyone who might even possibly offer better service in your area then the game's up. Don't trust the 'is it available for (You)r address' garbage. Many smaller ISPs don't update it because they ironically enough have poor sites. Call them.

Have you guys ever heard of an ethernet port causing your computer to reboot itself?

I've been diagnosing my friend's computer for a while now and trying to find the source of the problem, he tells me the computer shuts off randomly when he's playing stuff like CS:GO or watching YouTube videos

Sounded like maybe a power supply issue. Tested it everything, PSU was fine. Stress tested the computer to draw as much power out of the power supply as well and to see if any of the components were busted, worked fine.

Those were all offline solutions, but then we decided to open up a youtube video
Lo and behold, the computer shut off.

So put in a new PCI network card and disabled the onboard port. Been testing it all day today, and past 7 hours it has not turned off.

Probably the most bizarre thing I've ever dealt with in a computer, is this even possible?

In Python, I'm trying to pass a list of variables I defined in one function into another (in hopes that I could make it more compact than writing the same dozen of variables dozens of times over every time I call another function) and it doesn't seem to be going through properly.

In order to debug it, I made the program print the list before and after it goes into another function. The numbers are going through, but it turns into a tuple, the print output becoming parentheses instead of brackets as they should be, and all the variables that are on the list in use are 0.

What's going wrong, and how can I fix it?

Does anyone know of a device that I could use that would let me connect a lot (over 25) simple SPST switches to a computer?

I basically need to be able to detect when many different loops are open or closed.
>>
>>54314036
Because they're in different subnets.
>>

YMMV, I bullshitted so hard on my resume the type nearly turned brown. They think I'm some kind of wonderchild computer wizard.
>>
>>54314036
It can (through routing), but not directly since if one is in a different class than another, it's inherently in a different subnet.

For example:
192.168.0.4 is class C, network is 192.168.0
12.53.134.2 is class A, network is 12

Are curved ultrawides a meme?
I'm thinking of getting the LG 34UM67 because it's literally half the price of its curved counterpart but I've heard contradicting opinions on non-curved ultrawide monitors. Some people seem to think that the parallax gets a little too much at the edges of a non-curved ultrawide. Would I be better of getting a smaller but curved monitor?

I know my computer is more than capable, but I've been noticing youtube videos stutter.
On a whim, I opened task manager to find that I was using half of my physical memory (I have 8 GB of RAM). I started closing suspect things like Pale Moon and Steam (even though they weren't really THAT resource intensive). The problem still persisted.
Then I rebooted. Opened Task manager again and physical memory was normal.
I waited for Processes to fully load (this time showing from all users).
Soon enough a wild svchost.exe appeared.
I know that these processes are normal, and that there can be several of them.
Soon, one of them ballooned to over 1.4 GB.
Rebooted again to see if I could find something pop up.
I noticed that when svchost came back, it was around the same time that Windows Update appeared in my task bar.
Upon further inspection, it appears that Windows Update can just randomly go out of whack(???)
Has this happened to anyone else?
How do you go about fixing this?

Note: I haven't updated much past SP1 because I'm scared shitless of Windows 10 nagware bullshit.

>>54315429
UPDATE: I right-clicked on the svchost and clicked on Go To Service(s).
It had multiple services highlighted under it. One of them was "wuauserv" which is described as "Windows Update".
I disabled it and expected the worst.
Upon inspecting the svchost process, providing it was still the same one, it shrunk back down to 18,968 K.
So it was definitely Windows Update.
Problem is, how do I fix it besides simply keeping it disabled? Wouldn't keeping it disabled cause issues somewhere else down the line?

Tell me, is it normal for one part of Windows, in this case Windows Update to balloon to over 1.4 - 1.6 GB?
The only time a process is using that much RAM is when I have firefox/pale moon open with 30+ tabs across multiple windows.
I'd much rather know that my ram is being used for a process I'm running myself than one that's operating behind my back in the background. Sorry for your lots.
>>

so what would be a good upgrade for playing games? the 8350 Black?

In your case, yes, your computer needed that much ram to perform the task it was told to do.
Now if you cant move your mouse for a minute because of it,then yes look in to it. But wanting to use the minium amount of ram you can,its retarded. Why not just get a single dimm of 1gb ?

svchost manage your system, its that simple. It is doing things it needs to do,to function.

But Windows Update isn't actually doing anything. Nor do I want it to. If Windows 10 wants to get on my system so bad that it's going to bloat up Windows Update, then congratulations sir. Way to make me want to update even less.
No reason why it's using 50% of physical memory. I'd rather RAM not be used at a constant, when I can rely on it to be there for photoshop or video gaming.

I was in Disk Management and noticed there were three unlabeled volumes, each with 100% free space, and no way to interact with them short of deletion.
I couldn't open or explore them or anything.

So, I wanted the space that they're taking up and decided to delete them, but then noticed they're tied to this ImageBackup volume.
It's been around since I installed Windows 7, and I've never thought much about what purpose it serves, but is there a reason that newly-freed-up space seems to be tied to it? I can't seem to add it to my main hard drive.

Am I retarded? Does this D: drive exist for any particular reason? And if so, why is there so much space stuck to it?
