chromeOS is based on funtoo iirc. the machines already run linux and you can either make a chroot or wipe and do a normal install.
only advantage might be dualbooting windows and linux, which a chromebook wont do.

chromeOS isnt actually based on gentoo, all it uses from gentoo now is portage (it use to be based on gentoo but has since been turned into its own flavor of linux)
and you can actually dualboot windows on it, issue is the ssd space on chromebooks which gets eaten up by just the windows install, you can upgrade the ssd and do it just fine with seabios or you can vm windows pretty easily in a lightweight linux distro
