Last one reached bump limit.

This thread was created to prevent anons from spamming new threads, for technology questions they have.
If you are that person, post your simple/small/stupid questions here

Don't bump. This is a slow board, and will continue to be. Wait for an answer or google it.

both since you are seeing the images.
They are stored in a cache folder in your hard drive.

Is it true that if you're poor at solving problems in math you will never git gud in computers?
>>
>>53936970
no
>>
>>53936970
I don't really think so, the opposite doesn't have to hold true either. For instance I love math myself and I never got into programming or anything web related, shit, any work past installing a system and maybe using obscure distros or using adobe products. Pretty babby tier stuff. The hardest thing I did was retask jacks on hackintosh which took me a while to figure out, but it was just editing a fucking file.

Dear /sqt/

What are the latest stable drivers for Nvidia GTX 660?

When I was using GTX460, I had to stick to 314.22 drivers due to Nvidia forgetting about older cards and never versions were often causing BSODs or, in more extreme cases, physical damage.

I still run on drivers provided with card itself and just wanted to know, if it is safe to update to latest drivers.

Im using Windows 7 provided by DreamSpark right now, since like 6 years or more and it is just as any other copy of Windows.

The differences are in case of Windows 10, since Dreamspark have Edu version, which is basically the same as Enterprise, only provided to students and staff, instead of corporations.

I want to get into video game hacking.

In what ways could I make it undetectable?

Most of my programming experience comes with writing video games (gameplay programmer) or stats/machine learning.

So I understand that I have to read the memory of the process I want, I have no idea. That will be difficult but it seems there's enough sources out there to give me an idea of where to look for this stuff.

First is it detectable to just look at the memory of a process easily?

How do I work on making it undetectable?

Can an anticheat program figure out if I'm inputting fake mouse inputs? and if so, how should I go around this? Edit the drivers for my mouse/keyboard?

Java question
JList NiceCars = new JList();
scrollPane.setViewportView(NiceCars);

Cars.addCar(2213, "BMW");
Cars.addCar(2423, "Batmobile");
Cars.addCar(2353, "Vauxhaul");
Cars.addCar(2173, "Mercedes");

NiceCars.setModel(Cars);

So I've got this list to display on my scrollpane, but the way it display is just "BMW2213"
How can I change it so that it not only has a gap, but also displays a "£" before the number?

Thanks in advance m8s

Hi, i need to activate my win10 Pro version, and i having troubles whit that so i will repost this from the old thread.

I just did a clean install and use MTK 2.5.3, the patch activated successfully but every time I spend more that one hour on the OS it change back to “non activated”.

What are my options?
1- I could use KMSpico or another KMS tool but I don’t know if it will work now that I already use MTK.
2- I could use a VM to upgrade a non genuine win7 Pro, DAZ it and upgrade to win10 and copy the key generated?
3- Do the same ar 2 but whit a real machine.

I don’t know what else could I do

>inb4 install Gentoo

I really cant get my hand on the subject, pls help.

Note: before i got one response pointing getting a dreamspark key but i am not a student and cant get a dreamspark account.

yes they create the compiler (if compiled) in another language. later on they might choose to rewrite the compiler in the language itself and compile it with the old compiler. and continue to use the new compiler from that point.

Asked this in another thread with no help

I recently got debian, and the wifi adapter I used on ubuntu, Netgear WNA1000M, which was plug n play on Ubuntu, doesn't work with Debian. I can't connect a ethernet cable to my PC as my router is across the house, and I cannot walk ATM. I am dual booting with Windows 7, and have the firmware packages for the adapter on a USB, but IDK how to install it on Debian, as the tutorial just says to use "install firmware packages" in Terminal. Help?

Hello /g/. I have a ps/2 keyboard that I would like very much to get working. It's actually working right now, but...

*running windows 10, don't judge my botnet plz

You see, I am able to cold boot my PC using this PS/2 keyboard, but I cannot access the bios or interact with the login screen in any way... sort of. My keyboard's cable can be disconnected from it. The cable connects to the keyboard via mini USB, and it connects to the PC via PS/2, obviously. If I unplug the cable from the keyboard while at the login screen, the keyboard regains functionality. However, since I dislike having to re-plug my keyboard in every time I cold boot my PC, I would like to be able to simply use it without having to go through that. I've tried reseating the CMOS battery to reset the bios, I've tried everything. Plz help. I'm guessing it has to do with windowz registry settings and keyboards.

This is the current toString I have in the overarching "Vehicles" class. Apologies for the shitty variable names but I think that tells you a bit about what I know in Java

public String toString(){
return Name + "" + Price;
}

But I don't seem to call toString anywhere when assigning the list to ScrollPane
>>
What program could I use to merge several PDF into one?

I used to use PDF Architect, but all reviews say it's shit now.
>>
>>53938731
toString() is called by java whenever it needs to represent an object in text form. you never get to call it directly.
if you notice the format in the toString() method is exactly what you're getting in the scrollPane. so i suggest you change it.
return Name +" £" + Price;

decide if you want quality or a fixed filesize, then decide on the parameters given.

I got a supposedly "<1mw" green laser pointer (same as pic attached) that gets brighter after 20 seconds.

At full brightness it will melt a hole through thin plastic and if pointed at a metal temperature contact probe it will register ~50°c in a few seconds. It will not burn paper or light a match. At full beam it is too hot to point at the skin for more than 2 seconds.

Is this typical for a 1mw laser pointer?

Thanks

posted already in the daily programming thread but I got told to kill myself so here I am

I'm three weeks into learning Python. Total scrub. I need to create the attached image. Here is what I have so far:
import turtle

def drawStar(t):
for i in range(5):
t.forward(100)
t.left(216)

wn = turtle.Screen()
wn.bgcolor('lightgreen')

corrie = turtle.Turtle()
corrie.color('hotpink')
corrie.speed(6)

for i in range(5):
drawStar(corrie)
corrie.penup()
corrie.forward(350)
corrie.right(144)
corrie.pendown()

wn.exitonclick()

My problem is that the image isn't centering. I can see the stars being drawn but only part of them. The instruction for this exercise states that I need to move to the left before drawing my first star in order to fit everything in the window. This is the part that I am having the most trouble with. A push in the right direction or a revised version of what I have written with an explanation would be most helpful

>>53939390
Audio engineer here, not really. Most microphones only work well close because they use a cordioid pattern, while porn sets use boom mics which have supercardioid patterns. You probably won't be able to afford one, so just stick with the headset you got. In audacity, try to apply some noise reduction then some compression/limiting (not a lot, it'll probably still be noisy as fuck).

I NEED HELP !!!!!

I need a linux distro that has UEFI 32bit installer out of the box.

I need to install linux on the Lenovo Stick 300.

Ubuntu Mate and linux Mint, need some serious file modifications to enable the 32bit efi installer.

I need a distro that already has it in the .iso.

THANKS!

Looks good enough meanwhile its stable and you dont have problems with it.
>>
>>53941400
There are two mistakes with that piece of code.

> int year;
> if (year > 0)
The line `int year;` creates a variable, but it does not give it a value. When this variable is created, it can contain absolutely anything: a large positive value, a large negative value, minus seventeen, zero, who knows. As a consequence, that `if` clause shouldn't be there; you can scanf() unconditionally.

> printf("You are %d years old! \n", &age);
You want to use `age` here, not `&age`. `&age` is a pointer to age, which is what scanf() needs to store a value in `age`; printf() needs the *value* of age, so you write `age` instead of `&age`.
If you haven't got a clue what a pointer is and the above makes no sense to you, then forget about it; instead, memorize the rule that arguments to scanf() need a & for arcane reasons that will probably not be explained in detail for several more book chapters, and you don't generally need to write a & in front of a variable anywhere else [until you get to that book chapter, that is].

I had been having horrible problems with my ram for a while now. Namely, firefox was using way too much of it. Now, I generally have 150-170 tabs because I'm just that kind of person. But it had been doing fine with even more tabs than that before.

I have 8gb of ram and firefox was pretty much the only program I had running, and my total ram usage was like a constant 90-96%

That isn't actually my question. It got so bad that I decided to physically inspect my ram. I took both sticks out and looked at them, they seemed fine. I decided to put them in different slots.

And now everything is working like it did before.

My question is, why did that happen? Could I have possibly dinged one of my ram sticks without knowing it and pushed it slightly out of whack when I changed my cpu cooler a while back? That's the only thing I can think of.

Hi guys, my laptop is pretty fucked, case and screen. I could buy a cooked version of the same model off of ebay and swap the internals, but DESU I'm starting to find the laptop a bit wanting in some areas, for example autistic city building games for which the main bottlenecks are the CPU and RAM. Unfortunately I wouldn't have the budget to replace the laptop with a significantly better one within any reasonable timeframe. Obvious answer is 'build a desktop", which I haven't yet got around to doing before.

Problem is that I study at an interstate uni and fly back and forth between semesters. Any desktop would need to be portable and durable enough to take as carry on.

Is a desktop at all feasible?

>>
>>53941824
You tell me. You can get a pretty small case, an mITX board, and still be able to fit a full size GPU and beefy CPU in. Whether it's small enough or cheap enough is up to you.

Your other option is to buy a crap laptop with good specs since it's cheaper, and just be careful with it since the build quality will be poor. Look at reviews to avoid the total lemons and select the cream of the crap. Also avoid cheap ultrabooks. Anything trying to be particularly compact while being cheap will have bad cooling, so look at chunkier laptops. Cooling will be somewhat poor so get a decent cooling pad.

I used to have a nice one by ConnectLand; it was a single sturdy folded piece of aluminum with a really big low-RPM fan mounted on it so as to be nearly silent while moving a good deal of air. That cooling pad made my old HP laptop at least mostly usable, at least if I limited its 2 GHz CPU to 1.6 GHz. Otherwise even with the cooling bed it would overheat and throttle to 800 MHz until reboot if I tried to use the CPU too much.

Also, avoid HP -- they do not know how to do cooling at all outside of their expensive business class lines.

EAC FAQ:
>When using burst mode, EAC also shows up timing problems, are these really errors or what?
>No, burst mode has no error detection nor error correction. If burst mode brings up a timing problem, the read command needed a lot of time, which could have several reasons, like loosing sync or trying to fix an read error. Of course this is a really poor “error detection” and should not be taken as serious indication.

OK so this just happened today so bear with me: For some reason I can't access any website behind cloudflare, that includes 4chan, from my home network. This happened at some time today all of a sudden for no apparent cause, I didn't mess with network settings or anything. I've been able to detect it as a failure of dns lookup for those specific websites, everything else works fine and dandy, but for those websites specifically they just hang while doing the lookup until it times out. I've tried everything I could think of (not that I'm all that knowledgeable in the first place) but not even changing the DNS servers to Google's was able to fix this issue, I can't even fucking access cloudfare's own website for support. I'm starting to think either my ISP blocked Cloudflare for whatever reason or Cloudflare blocked them, is it possible? Anyone else having/had similar issues?

>>53942979
>How the fuck can I have serious disc error detection for CD-Audio?

You can't because CD Audio is meant to rely on the fact that even in case of a read error, the previous and next readable sectors waveform can be interpolated together and produce no audible problems. There is no parity data like with data tracks (which is the data that makes a 800mb cd image fit on a 700mb CDR).

The only way to rip cd audio with no errors is to re-read every goddamn sector an inane amount of times, making sure that the majority of the reads resulted in identical data.

Which is what EAC does when you set it to use Secure mode with Accurate Stream.

I had not seen a squiggly one, but it's probably to be more compact and possibly less directional. I suspect the loop kind might work better. Reflective is more pleasant on the eyes than glowing, though if you want to read it in the dark you'll need a booklight, or see if someone makes one with an electroluminescent backlight, kinda like the ones in some wristwatches.

BMP: into the trash with it, it's lossless uncompressed, only real virtue is it's dead simple to write code to save and read it
TIFF: you can put more than 1 picture in a file as "pages", a little like a PDF but it's all images rather than a mix of vectors and embedded images; it can also hold many different formats including uncompressed, lossless compressed and lossy JPEG
JPEG: use for photos and scans, you'll lose a small amount of detail in exchange for large gains in compression, but it won't be visible to the naked eye if you compress at a decent quality setting
PNG: totally lossless, best for digital drawings and other things with large areas of the same color or smooth gradients; also suitable for archiving photos for future editing though the files will be larger than JPEG
PCX: don't bother, it's basically like BMP
FPX: Kodak format, don't bother with it

Don't use it in burst mode. Use it in secure mode. Give it a very damaged CD and let it detect if your drive can properly accurate stream and report errors. If you tell it your drive has these features and it's one of the weird drives that says it does but actually doesn't, you'll fail to detect actual errors.

Telling it your drive doesn't have these features won't hurt the quality of its ripping, but it'll make it take longer to compensate for not having as good error reporting available to it.

EAC is in my experience about the best in terms of reading through errors on CDs. Anything using libcdparanoia does about as well, but seems to take longer than EAC for damaged discs.

This. Make the bin huge.

Also, the default is to prompt before deleting shit that's too big for the bin, so it at least takes more than 1 misclick. The prompt before sending something to the bin though is dumb -- if it was a mistake, it's in the bin and ctrl+z will restore it.

Why do you want to get the same brand again? Why not just get a similar capacity or larger drive?

Or are you talking about trying to swap the platters inside the drive to try and read your data when it won't spin up? In which case you need to get not only the same exact model, but as close a serial number as you can.

Also why the fuck have you removed the sticker from your HDD?

Anyhow, if the drive recognizes in BIOS, you can see it there.

I think you have a problem then, unless you can find any identifying markings on the PCB. You might try posting pictures of the drive, particularly a high res picture of the PCB. Or google any potentially interesting numbers and codes on the board or chips.

Also, I would try a PCB swap before cracking open the case and ripping the platter out. Way less potential to damage it, and very likely to work for a drive that won't recognize since that likely indicates something's bad on the PCB.

Mostly performance. I've caught it eating a lot of CPU. There's also some privacy concern since they aren't exactly transparent about what information it's reporting. For instance, I don't mind if it tells them that I launched Word at 2:43 AM or used "print preview" 23 times, but I may well mind if anything like filenames or even partial file contents make their way into what's reported.

Another concern is that it appears to still transmit data to MS as you type into the search box, even if Cortana and "search the web" are disabled. If it's still transmitting what I search for on my hard disk, that's a serious privacy concern, especially for any company that cares about data security.

There is no obtaining old Chrome releases unless some portable app site has archived it, because Google wants you on the latest one. Chromium is the way to go. There are builds going way back easily available

However:
You get versions from here: https://storage.googleapis.com/chromium-browser-continuous/index.html
Select a platform. See how it's by weird silly numbers like 209984? Those are commit positions.
To get 40, you first need to know what version of 40 you want. For example, 40.0.2214.115 -- I found it in the list of tags at https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+refs
Now we need the commit position for 40.0.2214.115. The usual way is http://omahaproxy.appspot.com/
Sadly when I put in that version number it just throws errors at me. I think it might be down right now.

I HATE how Google arranged their version control system for Chrome. If you ever want an old version of Firefox, you just go to an FTP archive of it at their official site, select platform and version and download it.

I've been trying to find a way to do this in Foobar2000... Mine's Windows 8.1 on a crappy old netbook. If anyone knows a way other than disabling sleep on lid close or timeout, that would be great.

What OS are you using, and is it a Windows 8 or 10 tablet? What interface you have on VLC apparently can make a difference. And for Win8/10 tablets, screen sleep puts it into connected standby, which stops audio output from VLC and other win32 apps, so preventing screen sleep is what you need on those devices.
>>
>>53944863
I'm using 8.1

I'm not really sure what to look for between what's being offered at that price point and how big the difference in performance is between the i5 6400 and 6500, as well as any advantage/disadvantage between the three motherboards they list.
>>
>>53945783
Well, everything depends on your budget.

All of the motherboards in the Z170 section are good motherboards except the ASRock ones.
You dont really need to get a CPU that matches the same tier of your GPU, if you want you can get a better one.

For what do you use your PC for?
Games? get a I5-6500 or I5-6600K if you will overclock and a GA-Z170XP-SLI.
Why? getting a I7 for games is just wasting money, the performance difference would be minimal to justify the extra $150 you will spend on it.
Work/render/CPU heavy stuff? a I7-6700K with a GA-Z170X-UD5.
>>
>>53945817
I'm only upgrading for games so the i5-6500 with GA-Z170XP-SLI looks good.
>>
>>53945783
Also all I5s are pretty much the same unless if you run them at stock speeds, if you overclock them then there is a huge difference between them.
The motherboard differences would be how much you can overclock with them, number of PCI slots, Number of M.2 or U.2 slots, number of USB slots, BIOS, and quality.

If you wont overclock get a cheap good one like GA-Z170XP-SLI.
>>
>>53945373
Some users with baby duck syndrome don't like Ubuntu's default user interface. You can install both on either and switch between them.
>>
>>53945875
Would the GA-Z170XP-SLI also be acceptable if you overclocked?
>>
>>53945909
Yes, but if you get a I5-6500 you wont be able to overclock.
You would need a I5-6600K.

In order to overclock you need a unlocked CPU, they are the ones that have a K in the name.
Example: I5-6600 is locked, and you wont be able to overclock.
I5-6600K is unlocked and you can overclock.

why my pc is running when it's idle?
>>
>>53945924
>>53945909
But if you wanna to overclock a lot you should get a better motherboard, also a good quality HSF because your CPU will get hotter.
Something like NH-U12S or NH-U14S.

If you wont do it a 212 EVO should be enough to keep your CPU cool at really low noise.
>>
Why Is My Hard Drive Working So Hard When My PC Is Idle?

A program running in the background? antivirus running a scan?
Open task manager and check what is using the HDD in the recourse monitor.

IIRC process explorer only shows how much CPU and RAM is being used by a program, not disk usage.

Open resource monitor.

Is there a way to get tmpfs on Windows? RAMdisks are a shitty alternative because they always use up a full block of RAM rather than only taking up what's needed.

you can have pretty much as many keyboards as yo want connected
>>
>>53946012
Is it checking for updates or performing maintenance?

>>53946033
No, that's the closest you get. Nobody has made a proper tmpfs pluggable filesystem. Instead people do it at the block level, then let the system put a nornal fs on it.

>>53946104
How do you get it NOT to? It always does for me, and I often just want to find stuff in the current folder whose name contains a word.

subfolder search guy here

Did you disable indexing or somethign stupid like that?

I have an old Athlon 32bit with empty IDE HDD but the CD drive doesnt load my WinXP cd
so im installing Ubuntu 8 and was wondering
I would have installed the newest version right away if this motherboard supported booting from USB but no, i even had to plug in an old PS/2 keyboard to navigate the menus

whats the easiest way of updataing it to 15 or 16 ?
>>
>>53946203
But it isn't more secure. Use Signal instead.

Technically the answer is yes, but it would be like saying "But you can't use these words" when talking about another language. Sure, you can't use those exact words, but there's different words in the other language with meanings close enough that it doesn't make a difference.
I would recommend downloading a few live iso's to try out some distros until you find one you like. I recommend Manjaro, but a lot of people like Ubuntu.
Check installgentoo and alternativeto when trying to find software on a different OS.

>>
>>53946415
Since ever. The TL;DR version is that the Telegram crypto was created by mathematicians, not cryptographers. It's more secure than WhatsApp, but less secure than Signal.
>>
>>53946474
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Then watch it completely hose your system. Or at least that's what happened when I tried to dist-upgrade from, I think it was 10 to 11 when that came out. Would not boot past the recovery shell and I had no idea what was wrong with it.
>>
>>53946482
>I didn't notice that before but I already have it enabled
Try doing a search, change it to this folder only, let it reload its results, then change it back.
>>
>>53946482
I'm not saying you need to switch, I'm just saying I'd recommend trying it out if I were you. A live iso just runs from a USB drive and won't make any changes to the HDD unless you explicitly tell it to, and even then it has several large warnings.
Linux isn't for everyone, and it's especially bad for anyone who needs to work with video rendering, but I'd recommend that everyone at least try it out to see if they like it. Most of the time people are far less dependent upon specific software than they think they are.
>>
>>53946507
that didn't do anything
I did figure something out though
It does actually search through subfolders, but only with some terms
this isn't anything complex, it's just music artists, with the subfolders being their albums
i found if i type one album, it will find it, itll even find songs
but ill type another album, and it will randomly not work
whats up with that
>>
>>53946517
yeah ive used live iso
how does it handle gaming
>>
>>53946562
Is this an indexed location? I suspect the indexing data might be fucked. Try rebuilding your index. http://www.tekrevue.com/tip/how-to-solve-windows-search-issues-index-rebuild/

>>53946595
Depends what kind of gaming you want to do. You're not going to be running many AAA titles, but Steam has a client for Linux, with some but not all games available. Valve has ported their own games and is encouraging devs to do the same since their SteamOS platform is Linux based.
>>
>>53946595
>how does it handle gaming
Badly. Neither Nvidia nor AMD care about Linux, so the propreitary drivers are shit, but somehow the open source drivers are even worse.
For now you should stay on Windows if you're a gamer.
Maybe dual-boot if you feel like it.
>>
>>53946627
entire c drive is indexed
it says rebuilding takes a long time so ill have to do it later

and im not a huge gamer but i like to keep the option open for time to time
>>53946650

guess thats the end then, thanks for the help i really appreciate it

I didn't say that. Telegram's crypto was made by people who don't specialize in crypto.
Would you trust a house built by an artist? It very well may be a properly built house, but you can't be sure because the builder has no idea how to build houses.
Telegram's crypto is probably secure, but it isn't peer-reviewed like Signal's.
All I'm really saying is that Signal > Telegram > WhatsApp

Whenever I try to make a gif, regardless of what I set it as- It will always come out as 10-15 fps (even if i set it as 5 or 30 fps.)
I've tried multiple programs and it happens with each one.
Would there be some sort of problem with chrome (despite being able to view other gifs at their native frame-rate fine) or would it be my computer at fault?
