They moved to systemd.

Lots of crybabies moved to other small KISS distros, causing all kinds of noise because they don't want to learn how to compile their own kernel with their own config. They complain when they find out compiling firefox takes a long time on their machine. They refuse to move back to Arch because of their systemd boogeyman.

Arch was a nice containment distro, and now it is ruined.

I started using Arch when I was a beginner and my systems were stable for 2 years and never broke when I updated frequently so Idk where that meme comes from

There is a problem with Arch and it's that packages many of it's users download from AUR come from questionable sources / could be tampered.

There is no installer, that's what is wrong.

I've done some manual installs, also some third-party installer shit, and it's just problematic. I do not want to have to use a different device for looking up the Arch wiki while basically just typing the commands from there into the terminal, it's just a waste of time and prone to human failure.

Also the AUR is a pretty good idea for some obscure stuff, the only problem is the fact that 9 of 10 AUR packages won't build. Not really a problem for small stuff, I would just do a git clone and build it from there, but when it's dependent on a lot of stuff with specific version it starts to get a timesink again.

My desktop now runs Arch which I mainly use for programming so it's basically a keyboard oriented setup: i3 + vim. Laptop now runs Debian Testing + Cinnamon. It's actually quite comfy and even has an installer, wow.
>>
>>53726351
neither does arch
>>
>>53726400
I think there are a few unofficial installers, but I like to customize my installs with dm-crypt + luks and stuff so I'm not sure if an install script would even work for me.
>>
>>53726400
>he's too dumb to run a few goddamn commands

>>53721007

I also don't get why Arch users don't want an installer. Just make it optional. The main argument I hear is "Why would you install a highly customizable OS, and let someone else customize it for you?", but that's just bullshit. With every Arch install there are certain steps everyone has to take with little customization possible.

Especially boring configuration files that sets your hostname, keyboard layout, or locale. There is no reason why you can't just do it with a selection menu instead opening the files with nano/vi. Just automate that process, I have more work to do that day.

>>53726455
I've seen people do it using Debian or Ubuntu minimal, there is no reason a very minimal script won't work. Hell, introduce with every screen a [Terminal] and [Skip] option and everyone is happy.

>>53726481
When following the Arch wiki you actually don't need any cognitive capacity. It's basically just following instructions, it's slow and boring. Often installing Arch is literally like constructing an Ikea closet.
>>
>>53726173
I don't think you've been on /g/ for the past few weeks then. There are usually like 5 anti-Arch threads at the same time, usually just greentext or one-line OPs. It's probably a group of a few people or even one person but these threads are far more obnoxious than any Arch user I've seen.
>>
>>53726567
Which proves my point, it's incredibly simple to install Arch, and anyone that needs a fucking "installer" needs to get the fuck out of GNU and go back to his safe little Windows kiddie OS.
>>
>>53721479
RHEL if you're not a poorfag.
>>
>>53723498
Botnet
>>
>>53726637
But it is not my argument: Often with Ikea closets the problem occurs that most of your afternoon is gone when you're finally done. I feel the same way about Arch. An installer is always faster and produces the same result.

I'm an engineer, and I like to see a feature where every boring aspect of my life gets automated so I can focus on stuff that matters to me. Installing Arch is fucking boring.
>>
>>53726567
>I also don't get why Arch users don't want an installer. Just make it optional
It is trivial to write a customized install script in shell for arch and gentoo, solely because they do not rely on installers.

If you are in a situation where you don't want manual installations (i.e. using puppet or pxe-booting VM's on a deis/smartos cluster), having the installation be 100% manual is a good thing.

Just look at redhat's clusterfuck of a customized install for the reasons why no operating system should be auto-mode.
>>
>>53726822
there's really no way to spin the lack of an installer into a positive, fedora/debian have both installer and a pacstrap equivalent with deboostrap/supermin if you want to do it that way
>>
>>53721051
>implying they are still boys
>>
>>53726744
*future
>>53726822
Often users are not in that situation and an installer would be perfectly fine. You're describing an edge case, and designing general software specifically for edge cases is an interesting design choice.
