Hey I've run into problems with my first pc build a couple days back but I haven't been able to solve it. My computer doesn't enter the bios/uefi when I turn it on. Instead it just turns off after a few seconds. pic related is what I've done so far? I have put in my gpu and network adapter cause of this.
What I've installed so far:
mobo- gigabyte z170xp-sli
cpu- i5 6400
ram- Crucial 16GB (2x8GB)
storage- kingston 60GB SSD, seagate baracuda 2TB HDD
>>
If the guy with crappy MSI A68HI-AC still here,
Please try with a different stick of ram (different, not what you have) .
If no good, then get professional tech support.
>>
>>53690403
Can you post a clearer picture of the motherboard all wired up? (ie shine a flashlight inside)
>>
>>53690416
I don't have a flash light but I'll and get some better pictures.
>>
>>53690403
Try disconnecting all sata drives.
Try with different slot of ram, check each stick independently.
Do a cmos reset.
Check monitor.

Can you tell us bios error beep if you have case speaker?

>>
>>53691062
Man can't you buy a small case speaker/buzzer?
Its very cheap, can be bought at any electronic store, also called piezoelectric buzzer.

It will tell you exactly what's wrong.
>>
>>53691075
Yup it's long beep. 5 long beeps. Wiki says my cpu is fucked. Is that true?
>>
>>53691075
Your mobo manual should have the page for beep codes.

Can you check with a different cpu, maybe by taking your case to a store,or cpu of friend?
>>
>>53691123

>>
>>53691142
I don't have a spare cpu and after my parents might not want me to tinker with the pc. I'll take it to a repair man and ask him for a qoute and get him to tell me detailed issue so that I can get it repaired by warranty.
But first I'll do this>>53691123
>>
>>53691112
But the system is booting into Windows, would there still be post code beeps saying somethings wrong even if it successfully boots?
>>
>>53691163
Yes, it happens, you might not believe, but it does.
>>
I just got Thinkpad T400. I bought an HDD for it. When I run the disk checking utility in the BIOS, I get "Error Code: 0000 Read Verification Failed". I decided to install Windows 7 and it installed and seems to work fine, but I still get the error. I ran chkdsk from the CD after installing and it doesn't find any problems.

So, what's going on here? Should I return the HDD or what?
>>
>>53691189
I'll look around for a case speaker, I'm surprised mobo or case didn't come with one

I'm probably going to purchase the BenQ XL2411Z, tied for the cheapest 144Hz monitor. All parts but this and a GPU have been ordered. Is there anything I need to worry about, like the specs on the GPU, to ensure this thing actually displays at 144Hz. I've noticed that the specs on most budget GPU's only rate their DVI/Displayport at 60Hz (although at res higher than 1920x1080). Is there anything I need to look out for? Should I connect with DVI or Displayport?

So I'm going to be dual booting into Windows, only purpose being basically games. Is there any way it can be tweaked as to reduce time spent trying to boot into Windows and play pretty much anything?

Have you had experience with Windows 7 and Skylake processors? I heard that Microsoft announced an issue with USB input devices on Skylake machines. I need this matter cleared before I go out and buy new hardware, because there's no way I'm installing Windows 8 or 10 on my desktop.

Dear /sqt/.

What is the latest safe driver version for Nvidia GTX 660?

I remember that I had to stop at one version with 460 before, since newer ones were dangerous enough to cause bluescreens and even physical damage.

I still use version provided on CD with the card itself.

You can still install Windows 7 normally if you have a SATA dvd drive and a PS/2 keyboard.

If you really need to use a USB drive or keyboard then ASSrock has a tool to modify a Windows 7 iso to give it the right drivers that it still works.

Linux + Windows 10 or Linux + Windows 7?

I considered this, but getting a CPU from 2 "generations" ago means compatible replacements would be more difficult to find when the time comes. I'd get a Broadwell, but I don't see any being sold in my country. Only Haswell and Skylake. So I'd rather have the latter.

If it doesn't though, you can always try downloading the movie to your phone, re-encoding or setting up a media server like MediaTomb, UMS, Plex, etc.

Also, here's my dilemma:
I have this computer (http://pcpartpicker.com/p/q4g63C) which I built when I was in need of a computer and no money.
I was thinking of getting a new mobo (the current one has overheating problems) and maybe a GPU.
Or just build a new one from scratch, this time using an Intel CPU, since I'm not happy at all with my current AMD one.

The thing is, I don't know if it's a good time to do either of both. Might as well bear with my current build and wait for the new technologies (Zen, Skylake) to come out or whatever.

What do you guys recommend?

Question:
I'm trying to make a board(2d array) and i'd like individual instances of this board in a new class called Tile, you could imagine a chess board I suppose.

Then after having a tile i'd place an object on it or I wouldn't also i'd decide if it's walkable/accessible by the player or not.

What would be the best way to do this?

I'm not sure if my thought process is right or wrong but I think I can manage if someone could tell me how to pass a single position(From Board with 2d array) to the constructor of Tile(which has params x and y)?

>I'm not sure if my thought process is right or wrong but I think I can manage if someone could tell me how to pass a single position(From Board with 2d array) to the constructor of Tile(which has params x and y)?

For better clarification, Tile requires a single x or y out of the array.

I think that means I need to loop a third time because it's a 2d array?

there isn't one. There's little battery-powered things (that are usually vacuums and not blowers, for some reason), they're weaker than just blowing through a straw and don't do anything.

>>53698110
Tor isn't spelled in all-caps.

Also I second the other anons. Your procedure is not secure because you're running on an untrusted machine that you don't control when you use the internet cafe's computers. Using an on-screen keyboard is no defense at all - they could just have a program running that captures everything that gets sent over the network, and you wouldn't know. I don't know if you have to identify yourself to buy time on their computers, but if you do it'd be fairly trivial for anything you to to be traced back to you. File posted from IP a.b.c.d at time X, find out who had that IP at that time (it's a business, so it's likely a static IP), find out it's a net cafe, call them, ask who was using their computers at that time, and Bob's your uncle.

>>53698175
Yeah, well, you can't have anonymity without security, which should be obvious. You have to run from a machine that you trust, which means you must not use a public computer. You need your own machine. Take a laptop to some place where you aren't known and won't be recognized that has wi-fi. Boot Tails on it, connect to Tor, do what you want to do, and then shut down and leave.

Also I forgot to mention, you must disable javascript while using Tor. This is not negotiable. Many of the incidents of Tor users being deanonymized happened because of JS exploits.

The Tor browser leaves JS on by default because so much stuff breaks without it, but it's the biggest security hole bar none when using Tor.

What does not work is drag and dropping windows and files around.

I'm waiting for polaris to buy a gpu. Intel cpus are only incremental in performance gain. I'd get the mobo/intel cpu. Intel supports 2 processor generations per socket so you'll be fine if you go skylake and want to upgrade to kerby lake later. You can reuse your current gpu. Maybe get an intel G or i3 in the meantime. They're better than your current processor too, in single threaded performance at least. I'd look it up. If you're planning to upgrade, go with an i3 anyway. An i5 that costs $200 that you'll replace by mid-year is a waste.

Nice choice of PSU. I'd go with a G2 for extra reliability but it's not a problem really. Not sure if the sandisk ultra plus is MLC or SLC but it's recommended if you want a long lasting and reliable ssd. Longer lasting and more reliable than tlc at least. I'd definitely go for an mls/slc if I could. No cache exhaustion problems, less degradation, etc
>>
>>53698372
And NoScript is set to "allow all" by default in the Tor browser. Some of its protections (like XSS) are still on, but the default is to run all JS. You have to remember to either click NoScript into "deny all" mode, or go into the browser config and turn off JS there.

>>53698352
Not trusting the network is why you use Tor. The network only sees an encrypted connection to the entry node. The site you're connecting to (which had better be using TLS if you know what's good for you) will only see the exit node.

Well, is your machine compromised? Wipe it clean and reinstall. Anyway, Tails defends against this, you have a fresh copy of a known-good OS booting every time, so even if your hard drive is stuffed with malware, it's never even mounted. If someone does run an exploit on you (unlikely) they'll have trouble getting any persistence, since each time you start Tails you get a clean boot, there's no persistent writable state by default.

But yes. You need your own laptop, that you control, with a known-clean OS on it, and you need to use Tor. Posting from a machine you don't own or control is as good as zero security (and zero anonymity). Shit, maybe they have remote-desktop software and can watch and record your screen on those internet-cafe PCs. Maybe they have a filter that logs access to certain sites. Maybe anything. You don't control the machine, so you have no way of knowing what could be running on it. They probably won't let you boot your own OS on the PC, btw.

also using your own laptop and Tails/Tor means that it doesn't have to be from a net cafe, any public wi-fi will do. Pick a location where you won't stand out, like a coffee shop or something.

If you get a USB 3.1 gen 2 cable you will not experience a slower speed. Going to 3.1 gen1/ Usb.3.0 will decrease your speed.

Your best bet is a Hub that has Both connectors.

This is a dumb idea, but one I thought could possibly work.

I recently bought an Alienware 15 R2. I actually really like the device, even though they're pricey as hell. Anyways, my laptop has both a Graphics Amplifier port and a USB Type-C port. Considering there's a handful of Type-C external GPU docks coming out, is there any way I could hook up two external GPU's to my laptop at once? One through the Alienware Graphics Amp and another through a Type-C external GPU dock? It seems like a stupid idea, but something that might work.

Thanks /g/

I think, the CPU throttles itself when it happens. I had to underclock it and turn of a module to keep it "cool" when playing vidyagaems.
I did a test with Prime95 and it reaches 65-70ºC before it throttles under stress.

Yeah, I was thinking of getting a i3-6100. I do a lot of emulation, so single-threaded seems more logical.
I fell for the "more cores" meme, but I never thought I'd end up with a crippled CPU.

alright you shits

All I'm trying to do is rename all the data for each column in an sql database to be ordered in an ascending fashion.

say I have ### 1, or it could sandwich, 1 ####, and all I want is 1. The next in the column should be 2 etc.

How should I go about this to change every single value for every single entry in this table? I have more than one of these and they all need to be matched up. It should be simple, right?

I have a home server. It has a C2Q 6600 and 8GB of RAM, of which about half is free under normal circumstances. I want to use ZFS. It'll have 5x3TB drives, probably in RAID Z1. Is the machine powerful enough to handle that? Speed is a secondary concern for me, the server's job here is storing backups of my media archive, I'm not streaming to a bunch of people on Plex or anything.

How to hardcode an srt file into a wmv? All the programs i've come across so far are fucking garbage at this and actually don't work. Your argument makes sense.
How about installing Tails on USB and using it from there?
The idea behind using the cafe's PC is maybe in the far chance someone could track MAC address or something, and by using a public internet, public PC I could protect my anonymity at the cost of security.
Since I won't be using it again.

I would show you the db but I don't own the project so I'm not cleared to do so.

It's two tiered, one tier specifies an object, and the next tier has all of its relevant data. one column in that data specifies the name of a product, and it's in numerical order. There's other data matched up to the numbered order, and there's extraneous data in some of the names though, so that needs to go, along with this needing to be unified for the transition to mongoDB from SQL, so it really should just be 1, 2 ..... 300 or something for each of these.

>>How about installing Tails on USB and using it from there?
that's how you're supposed to use it, anon. You aren't supposed to put it on your hard drive.

>The idea behind using the cafe's PC is maybe in the far chance someone could track MAC address or something, and by using a public internet, public PC I could protect my anonymity at the cost of security.

Tails spoofs your MAC. It changes to a new one on every boot.

>Won't DeepFreeze help in anyway?
Not in the slightest. If you want anonymity, you have to include the people running the internet cafe in your list of possible adversaries. DeepFreeze can restore system images on their PCs to a certain configuration. But what if that configuration is hostile to you? What if they use DeepFreeze to ensure that their logging software will always start, so that if the cops come by saying someone did something bad on their PCs, they'll have complete records of it to give them? And because they control the PCs, using DeepFreeze as one way to do that, they can configure those PCs to behave in a way that breaks your anonymity. Your adversary is NOT just the possibility of running into random malware on the internet - your adversary is anything that could be used to link your activity to your identity. Security from your perspective (preserving your anonymity) can be a very, very different thing than security from the internet cafe's perspective.

>Didn't they fixed that?
I haven't checked recently, but I thought that was a deliberate choice on their part of usability over security. Which strikes me as a strange and bad decision, given Tor's purpose, but there you go.

Not even that, actually, since the site you post to will have no way to know your real IP because of Tor, and the wi-fi you're using won't see the site you're connecting to, also because of Tor. There are correlation attacks that work in the way you describe, but they're hard to run, and require compromised Tor nodes. Don't worry about this.

And no, installing Tails to a fixed disk of any kind is stupid. It is not an everyday OS. It's something you only boot when you require it's anonymizing features.

I should have explained.
I meant mSATA SSD because of the way T420 is designed, the mSATA can be removed easily, won't have slow loading time because of the USB 2.0.
And Grub can be configured to boot my "normal" OS by default, from HDD.
Also thanks for answering my stupid questions.

The mSATA isn't hotplug, and one of Tails's features is that if you yank the USB drive it boots from while it's running, the system overwrites some sensitive areas of memory and then races to shutdown as fast as it can. This protects against the way that chucklefuck who was running one of the Silk Road reboots got busted, some pigs grabbed his laptop while he had it on at a coffee shop.

Stop trying to make shit more complicated, anon. Security is very difficult as it is. Use the tools in the recommended way, because that way is what it is for a reason. Stop thinking "Oh, but can't I do it this way instead...?" If you don't know exactly what you're doing, why you're doing it, and what security implications it has, the answer is "No. Don't get clever, do it the way you're told". You can only start thinking about changing things when you fully understand why the defaults are what they are.
