though SARBs aren't really "Japan only", anymore, I don't think many places short of a seiko boutique would carry them in a brick and mortar store

They sell other than Skagen/Fossil/Emporio where you live?

In France if you want good watches its online or nothing, even Casio is rare.
>>
>tfw the second and minute hand of my Seiko 5 military just came loose for no apparent reason.

luckally they offered to repair them for free, still have to pay shipping costs to send it to the nearest repair shop.

So I'm wearing my ol 1973 Citizen 9038 still runs like a gem, eventhough the springs of the flyback mechanism are not what they used to be
>>
>>53675345

In finland every mall-grade jewellery store has a tiny selection of seiko and shit like fossil, and Raymond Weil since russians seem to buy them.
>>
>4 Jewellers within a reasonable distance from my house

Might be able to convince one of the nearer stores to look into becoming an Orient Dealer, as the owner is a friend of the family..Would be useful rather than waiting 2 weeks for any Orient I buy to be shipped out from Long Island..
>>
>>53675510
Convince one of them to start selling Vostoks.
>>
>>53675566
Pretty sure one of them does have a few used Vostoks, from a cursory glance, they're all in pretty rough shape. I think people would even have a hard time selling them on eBay as "Spares and repairs"
>>

He could get a couple of new Dirskies and Amphibia's.

A watchmaker i know over here, who usually works only on slav mechanical watches, had a few for sale and he said they were sold rather quickly since people were tired of overpriced chinkshit&Casios and even further overpriced Swiss watches. (Mind you, large slav populous here in kikeland)
>>
>>53675633
I could try, but honestly, business seems to be going well for him on the Watch front, he owns the only shop that sells Seiko's in the area, and everyone I see come into the place I work who has a watch, will 80% of the time be a Seiko 5. So with the limited size of his property, I think it would be difficult to convince him of even looking into Orient. Though when I was getting my bracelet adjusted there, he did mention how nice my Marshall looked for being a Quartz. I was quick enough to mention it was mechanical, he seemed fair surprised that an automatic was as thin as my Marshall is..So might be able to get some traction.

What? Neo70s, Tristars, World Stage, Orient Stars, Classics, tons of Disk variants, etc

Socially and culturally they're stuck in the past and all the politicians are old farts and their cronies who think life needs to be as it was in the Showa period and somehow today's degenerate youth are responsible for the economic bubble collapsing. If we hadn't glassed them and subsequently rebuilt and modernized their country for free it'd still be like the 1800's here.

That aside, the 70's were a glorious time for watch design. Sunburst dials, faceted crystals, high quality quartz, and much more adventurous designs.

Speak for yourself, proud Axix member here.
You're delusional, they were already a modern country, they just had a different culture than yours. But I know this is something a Burger can't comprehend.
>>
>>53677429
Bait me harder, it's impossible to know from the outside how backwards this country is without living here a few years. Wheels weren't even in common usage here until a couple centuries ago and even through the Meiji restoration the state of civil technology was totally primitive. What do you expect from a country with limited resources that completely isolated itself from the world? Dejima was the only place in the whole country where modern science and technology could flow in. One port open only to the Dutch. Without that connection they wouldn't have even had firearms when the rest of the world was happily shooting each other.
>>
>>53677545
And to continue that notion, those firearms gave the leverage needed to finally unify the country. Without them it would have continued (possibly even for centuries, given the relative stagnancy of culture and technology) to be a feudal society of warlords and sovereign territories carried on the backs of agricultural peasants.

Fuck me, the second i saw it i knew what it was.

That's an export model of a soviet made pocket watch, likely made somewhere between the 70s and 90s.

Most automatics can be hand wound.

Or take off the caseback and move the oscillating weight with your fingers. Viola -- hand winding.

Yeah compared to that they're definitely a bit rounded over.
>>
>>53683441
You can see the sharp edge on the other one too, it's just the shine obscures it.

You could say it's not as edgy as an original.

And the shine doesn't exactly hide it, seems it was lightly polished.

Why have you left the chronograph running?
>>
An SKX run-in between +5 & +10 seconds per day is pretty good right?
>>
>>53684067

A design oversight/quirk and a shortage of replacement parts is why those are left running.

>>
>>53684434

Off the top of my head, perhaps they didn't count on the spring being a weak point. There's not a very high chance of failure but each time you reset the chronograph there's a possibility.
>>
>>53684434
It's a vertical clutch, that's how it works. He's saying he doesn't want to compress the spring when it's not needed.

If you weren't around for a couple of the chronograph editions of /wt/ vertical and horizontal clutches are explained in part two of "Chronograph Saga" made by thewatches.tv
https://youtu.be/uwJ9TbkNigs

But saying you don't want to compress a vertical clutch spring when you're actively compressing and decompressing other springs, springs that are just as hard and/or as expensive to replace sounds pretty silly to me. He says the best way to preserve your watch is to not compress that particular spring, but really it would be not to compress any of the springs, leave it on a shelf.

Mostly this is just a parts availability, and part age, issue for a watch nearly a half century old, that's why people are debating the issue as much as they do.

Hey, dunno if you're still reading this but here goes

For Tokyo, Odaiba is really cool. You can see the giant Gundam, there's a big shopping center, and also there's a brewery you can tour there. Also Akihabara is a good place for freakwatching and pop-culture fixes.

Kyoto I would recommend Ginkakuji temple. Kinkakuji (the shiny gold one you see in photos) is neat but it's always packed and is really touristy. Ginkakuji is a little less busy and I feel it captures the peaceful temple atmosphere a lot better, with gardens and a small walking trail. A bit further out there's Arashiyama, which is a really pretty area but you have to pay a bit extra if you have the bus pass (recommended). There's a monkey park on top of a mountain, it's a lovely hike to the top and you can feed the buggers and enjoy the view.
>>
>>53685576
Fushimi-Inari, the shrine with the hundreds of Torii gates, is pretty cool but also usually totally crowded. If you want your shit messed up by asshole deer Nara is a short train ride away.

For Fukuoka, the Tenjin area is most happening. You can walk for hours in the underground shopping area. Canal City is a nice big shopping center with fountains and shit but be careful if it's raining because the roof leaks like a mother. Fukuoka Aquarium is pretty nice too. There's a street that fills with food stands at night around the station that's highly recommended too, definitely get some authentic tonkotsu Hakata ramen while you're down there. If you get bored there I'd recommend hopping the train north to Kokura or south to Nagasaki, those are both really nice cities with lots to do and close enough for a day trip.

Usually the answer is no, because the hands extend into the crystal. I don;t see why you would want a flat crystal though, because domed is better in every way.

Fuck yeah, homey. I worked in an office in Kyoto where to send daily reports in to HQ you had to print off the form, fill it in my hand, and fax it to HQ. PDF? What the fuck is that?

I found a shop in Osaka that specialized in converting DVDs and Blu-Rays to VHS for people who refused to make the switch because their VCR still worked.

How will I drool over the watches I don't have if I'm too busy staring at those I do?
>>
>>53695556

I'm not even saying I don't kind of admire the latter. It's kind of like the old Yankee saying, "buy it new, wear it out, make it do, do without" in Japan. They bought a high-end VCR, it outlived tape and DVD, and if they're still alive they'll buy a high-end Blu-Ray or whatever is next and it'll last another thirty years. It's a great philosophy, really.

But it does stand in stark contrast to most people's notion that Japan is The Future with robots and shit too. Japan is the 50s for social norms, the 90s for fashion, and the 80s for technology. Akiba and Harajuku are weird outliers that get way too much attention from foreign press.

And also that seller is a total bro, but his packaging is a little sloppy.
>>
>>53710101
That looks better than the watch they ended up making. Sad.
>>

Nice. That dial looks good.

Does this look oversized to you guys? Pepsi or black bezel?
>>
>>53711194
Hard to tell from an image, watches usually look a lot bigger on pictures taken like that than they do IRL. Looks fine to me though.
I think the black bezel looks nicer here, I like the pepsi in combination with a france nato.
>>
>>53711194
Mate we already told you a month ago, it's slightly too big for you.

And even with lens distortion you could see the lug overhang.

Thanks, it fills my desire for both a textured dial & penis quartz Seiko.

It should turn up around my birthday too, so it's a little present to myself.
>>
>>53711317
Just search for either Vollmer or Staib mesh bracelets for examples.

And if you're cheaping out i've seen decent ones go for around 30~40$. But it'll take some time to dig up.
>>
>>53711229
>>53711234
It seems inconclusive so I became indecisive. My apologies...

The other alternative would be the older SKX009 but isn't the movement a lot worse since it has no hacking and hand-winding?
>>
>>53711531
To some extent that's true, the movement does lack the features. And you could ghetto hack a 7S26.

But if it's your only daily watch, handwinding won't mean much. (Which is kind why i bought >>53709033 , since i have quite a of watches)

The movement is fine it's just a bit basic. My SKX009 for example runs at between +5 & +10 seconds per day.

Size wise I don't think it's much smaller, it's about 41mm.

Yeah I know what the milanese mesh bracelet look like, I just can't picture a watch like that on one.

I'm still hesitant on getting a mesh bracelet for my LM special as well. Guess you could get a leather strap or a couple of perlons.

Found this quarz certina at home last year, it's about 15 years old and never serviced, should I take it to a shop for service?
>>
>>53712957
Three hand + date quartz doesn't really need service.
>>
>>53712684
>>53712724
At least at the very beginning. He appears to had quite a hemorrhage from the impact.

>>53712759
>guy

>>
>>53712978
Does if you want to keep it
>>
>>53713039
No it doesn't, Ninefag, even cheap unjeweled Jap 6.75x8 movements last forever.
>>
>>53713039
It hasn't really been used for 10 years, but when i put in a new battery it has been running smoothly for a half year. Maybe it's time for a service when it's running irregularly
>>
>>53713061
Even many mechanical movements last a while without service, it's just a matter of if you want to to grind away its internals to dust over the decades or not.

>>53713104
>Maybe it's time for a service when it's running irregularly
I suppose you have a similar philosophy with your car
>>
>>53713168
Didn't I just say even the ones that are unjeweled with plastic gears last forever?
>>
>>53713168
About what is the average price for this kind of service?
>>
>>53713247
Quartz service generally costs just as much as mechanical service.

So for lower end quartz with sundry movements it's often cheaper to just drop in a new movement. Like dropping a new crate engine in a car instead of rebuilding an old one if the crate is cheap enough. In which case yeah, you could for sure just keep the current one until it starts shitting the bed. But if you did actually want to keep the original movement going then you'd want to service before that point.
>>
>>53713312
Okay, thanks for the advice

Is the 40 hours power reserve accurate?
>>
>>53713948
It's usually very close to that mark. .

If i do a headcount, i had a total of 2 7S26 and a 7s36 and they all were within a +2/-2 hour of the factory PR.
>>
>>53713948

I bought a bling seiko on a whim once since it was 40% off. Msrp was 380€ i think

Ive considered getting a red pearl ray strap for it, the texture looks amazing. Still havent gotten drunk enough to get a 130-170€ strap.

Back to the drawer it goes fåmälämäs
